chopping mall titleThis was a film that I have always wanted to see since I had seen the title and the movie poster. Companies in America are always trying to build the next best thing when it comes to security especially for a business. A company comes up with Robots (They have the body of Johnny 5 from Short Circuit) that patrol the malls catching criminals, but not killing them. The company sells it as fool proof and that nothing bad could possibly happen. Well, what happens when something bad does happen and that is the case for some partying teenagers who stay late after work to party and get frisky with their girls. The teenagers are unsuspecting that the Robots have malfunctioned and are taking people out one by one. Will the unsuspecting workers survive or will the robots get them before they can make it to safety? The movie stars Barbara Crampton (Reanimator) as Suzie, Tony O’Dell (The Karate Kid) as Ferdy, Russell Todd (Friday The 13TH Part 2) as Rick, Karrie Emerson (Evils Of The Night) as Linda, Kelli Maroney (Fast Times At Ridgemont High) as Alison, Nick Segal (Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo) as Greg, Suzee Slater (Real Men) as Leslie, John Terlesky (Judgement Day) as Mike, Dick Miller (Gremlins) as a Porter, and Paul Bartel (The Usual Suspects) as Paul Bland.

suzee slaterOverall, this is actually a really good horror flick, I mean some of the acting is a little cheesy, but everything is else is done pretty well. I mean I was honestly very impressed with some of the kill scenes. As I said above, the robots looked as if they were left overs from the Short Circuit films in the way the bottom half of them were built. Of course, it’s a horror flick which means their are plenty of boob shots to go around to make any 80’s horror fan happy. One of the coolest kill scenes though involves the beautiful Suzee Slater which you can see to the left of this paragraph. One of the robots shoots her with his cheesy laser beam and it blows her head up like an exploding birthday cake. You’ll get to see it again in the end credits, but it was definitely a highlight for me. The young and beautiful Barbara Crampton (You’re Next, Reanimator) stars in this film along side some really familiar faces as far as 80’s films were concerned like Gerrit Graham who I recognized from Child’s Play 2. I really enjoyed every minute of the film and if you love 80’s horror like I do then you’ll love this. On a scale of 1 being close to an a-list Hollywood film and 5 being the cheesiest film of all time I am giving it an 2.5 due to the overacting in some of the scenes.
