mad max 2We are on week two for our countdown to the release of the brand new George Miller written and directed film Mad Max: Fury Road which sees release everywhere May 15TH. As part of the countdown, we are using Ass Whoopin Wednesdays as we continue with the next film in the series which is Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. The film once again sees Mel Gibson (Mad Max) as our title character as we are now in an Australian Wasteland, but gasoline is now the hot commodity as it is now hard to find. Max is on a journey to find more gasoline when he runs into a village that is protecting gasoline that they had been mining from The Humungus (Kjell Nilsson) and his outlaws who wants the gasoline they have. To get what he wants, Max agrees to help the community escape these outlaws in exchange for gasoline. The film also stars Bruce Spense (Star Wars: Episode III- Revenge Of The Sith) as the Gyro Captain, Michael Preston (Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn) as Pappagallo, Max Phipps (Thirst) as The Toadie, Vernon Wells (Commando) as Wez, Emil Minty (Fluteman) as The Feral Kid, Virginia Hey (The Living Daylights) as Warrior Woman, and the film was written and directed by George Miller. Now let’s take a look at some stats before we get into the review of the film.

road warriorThis is the first time on Ass Whoopin Wednesdays that we repeated an actor, but it’s all worth it considering the new Mad Max looks amazing. If you are looking for a little bit more of what you’ve seen in the trailers for the new film in any of the originals then this is the one you’ll want to watch. This is a little more into the future and Australia has become more of a wasteland than it was before. Max is a scavenger of sorts, but most importantly at this point he is a loner. In the film he registers about 17 knockouts/kills, but as far as an origin story they just let you know that it’s basically continuing the story. There is absolutely no love interest for Max in this film as she died in the first film and no one close to him gets hurt, but a lot of the people from the village do either get hurt or die. The big boss who wears a Jason mask and has the physique of a professional wrestler does meet his maker in the film thanks to Max. I love the look of the characters in this film than I do in the first film because there a little more over the top than the first film. This was definitely one of my favorite films in the original series that starred an up and coming Mel Gibson who made the role so iconic. The editing in the film was fantastic and the cinematography was great, I really loved aerial shot of the village at night which I used for the stats above. If you are a fan of Mel Gibson or are planning to see the new film, do yourself a favor and check these out before you do so. I am going to give this one four fists out of five for a final grade.
