The first time I ever discovered the music of Max Cavalera, it was the album Roots by Sepultura and I remember being attracted to how primal and in your face the album was. Sadly when I heard the record for the first time, the band had already parted ways with Cavalera and he started the band Soulfly which carried on what Max had started with the Roots record. 18 years later and ten albums later, the band is still going strong. The band is actually gearing up to release their tenth album this Friday (music is now released on Fridays) August 14TH called Archangel via Nuclear Blast Records The band has also unleashed a single from the record which just also happens to be the title track from the groove metal legends. The song is everything you would expect from the legends as Marc Rizzo delivers on the guitar riffs while Max’s growls are as amazing as ever. The song also features former Static X bassist Tony Campos and Max’s son Zyon Cavalera plays the drums. Max recently spoke about the record and said, “It’s been exciting. After 30 years of playing metal, to find new influences and new things to inspire you — it is actually quite amazing. I found it in some biblical stuff, it is the inspiration for the majority of the record and I think it’s very exotic and mystic. I’ve never quite done a record like this before so for me it was a project that took a long time to get done right, but now it’s all finished with the cover and the sounds and the effects between the songs, the voices, I’m pretty proud of it. I think it’s quite a cool record to put out and I think a lot of people are going to like it.” Check out the track below and get the album August 14TH. The band is also on their We Sold Our Souls To Metal Tour with Soilwork, Decapitated, and Shattered Sun, Check out the dates here.
