I’ve been doing this Soundtrack Saturday thing for quite some time now and I am surprised that it took me this long to cover this group. In 2001, Mark Wahlberg starred in a film called Rock Star which was a film about a guy who is so obsessed with a certain metal band that he is in a cover band. One day after the original lead singer of the band “Steel Dragon” is kicked out, the band goes on a search for a new singer and they come across a video of Walhberg’s character singing one of their tunes. Walhberg joins the group and begins living the dream until things fall apart. The story should sound familiar to metal fans because it’s loosely based on the story of Tim “The Ripper” Owens and the band Judas Priest. One of the cool things about the film is that the band Steel Dragon featured Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society), Jeff Pilson (Dokken), and Jason Bonham (Bonham) in the band. The song that I chose for today is one that was written by Twiggy Ramirez (Marilyn Manson) called Blood Pollution and as far as I know, it’s Pilson, Wylde, and Bonham as the band on the track with Miljenko ”Mili” Matijevic from Steelheart on vocals. The song features a wicked guitar riff that just rips and an amazing bass line to go with it that keeps the song going. The soundtrack features four other songs from the band as well as famous 80’s metal tracks that provide a great soundtrack. Check it out below and rock on.
