y and tThis is our last regular album of the week post until November as every post in the month of Ocotber is taking a Halloween/Horror theme. When it comes to the hard rock scene of the 1980’s which featured bands like Motley Crue, Ratt, Dokken, Quiet Riot, not too many people realize that Y&T were one of those bands that came before them. By 1984, Motley Crue had two records, Ratt had one, Dokken had two, Quiet Riot had four, but Y&T was gearing up to release their sixth studio album called In Rock We Trust. The album featured Dave Meniketti (Vocals/Guitar), Joey Alves (Guitar/Vocals), Phil Kennemore (Bass/Vocals), and Leonard Haze (Drums) while the album was produced by Tom Allom (Judas Priest, Krokus). It’s not surprising that the name of the album was In Rock We Trust as Judas Priest released an album that year Defenders Of The Faith as both had the theme of defending rock and metal. In Rock was the highest charting album for Y&T (stands for Yesterday & Today) as it peaked at number 46 on The Billboard Top 200 charts and according to Meniketti it only sold 450,000 copies so it comes in shy of Gold status.

1. Rock & Roll’s Gonna Save the World– The album kicks off with the rock anthem that starts off slow before the band kicks it into overdrive. You can’t argue with that phrase as rock has done some pretty important things around the world 5/5

in rock we2. Life, Life, Life– a real bluesy track with those amazing vocals from Meniketti in a track that had the sentiment of the world ending due to the cold war still being a thing in 1984. 4/5

3. Masters and Slaves– This hard charger track is next as Meniketti sings about overcoming adversity in life and being your own person instead of a mindless slave. 4/5

4. I’ll Keep on Believin’ (Do You Know)– A very melodic track as it’s not really a power ballad, but it has that feel and the lyrics help with that. 4/5

5. Break Out Tonight!– a cool bass line opens up this bluesy like track while we get some clean guitar playing before they launch it into overdrive in a track about taking the initiative in life before your time runs out.4/5

6. Lipstick and Leather– This is one of my favorite tracks on the record that is just raunchy right from the start and I love it about the rock chicks who are a little on the wildside then your normal girls. 5/5

YT-In_Rock_We_Trust_Japan-3-CD-7. Don’t Stop Runnin– This is another classic from the album that just never stops rocking from beginning to end. It’s your typical 80’s track that kind of has an REO Speedwagon feel to it. 4.5/5

8. (Your Love Is) Drivin’ Me Crazy– This track has a real blues feel to it as Meniketti sings about wanting a girl so much that you just can’t hold it back anymore. 4/5

9. She’s a Liar– The fast paced drums kick off this hard charging track about girls who try to play hard to get, but he sees right through them. 4/5

10. This Time– This is the last track on the album and it starts off very melodic in this ballad like track. It’s a love song so you can imagine what the lyrics are about. 4/5

My Final Thoughts– i always felt that Y&T were one of those bands that never got enough credit, but that is how it goes sometimes in the music business. This is definitely one of my favorite albums from the band as I consider it a classic. That is why I am going to give the album four stars out of five for a final grade.
