Gwar-BloodyPitofHorrorFor this week’s album of the week, I wanted to include a band that I felt best repsented everything horror and GWAR was always one of those bands especially lead singer and leader Oderus Urungus (who starred on the show Holliston). The album I chose for all of you is the band’s 12TH studio Bloody Pit Of Horror which shares the same name as a horror classic. The album was released on Noveber 9, 2010 via Metal Blade Records. Unfortunately for the band at the time, this was the last album to feature Cory Smoot as Flattus Maximus as Corey would pass away that same year (from coronary artery thrombosis brought about by his pre-existing coronary artery disease) and the character was retired. The rest of the band was rounded out by Balsac The Jaws Of Death (Mike Derks) on rhythm guitar, Beefcake The Mighty (Casey Orr) on Bass, and Jizmak Da Gusha (Brad Roberts) on drums. The album was also produced by guitarist Cory Smoot. What’s funny about the album cover below is that it reminds me of the Straight Outta Compton album cover.

1. Zombies March!– The song starts off with an amazing riff from Maximus before the band marches right into the track with an all out metal assault in a track about Zombies. 5/5

Gwar-Bloody_Pit_Of_Horror-Back-2. Come the Carnivore– Another track from the band that continues on the theme of zombies. The music is very sludge like and the lyrics are chanted. 4/5

3. A Gathering of Ghouls– The band returns with a fierce thrash like riff for this track about ghouls looking to take out some people to claim their souls. 4/5

4. Storm is Coming– This is technically part four and the last part of The Bloody Pit Of Horror story and it’s just as fierce as the last track musically. 4/5

5. Tick-Tits– You can only imagine what this song is about just by reading the title of it. Only GWAR could pull off a song like this. 3.5/5

6. Beat You To Death– This track features Beefcake The Mighty on vocals in this Motorhead like song about Beefcake being a gladiator like guy or a man who is a conqueror. 4/5

3996635028_87d777aa137. You Are My Meat– The track starts with a real evil melodic riff before it gets heavy in a track about dominating someone you like (at least in my opinion). 4/5

8. Hail, Genocide!– The razor sharp and fast riffs return for this track about guess what? That’s right Genocide! It talks abotu society and how they hide the genocide from the public. 4/5

9. KZ Necromancer– An all out metal blitz about mad crazy doctors using humans for experiments like Dr. Mengele who is mentioned in the track. 4/5

10. The Litany of the Slain– a mostly palm muted metal track about a list of all the creatures they have slained. Not one of my favs, but it’s decent. 3/5

11. Sick and Twisted– This is the last track on the American version of the release of the album and it’s a track about just how sick and twisted Oderus Urungus is. 4/5

My Final Thoughts– You know exactly what you are getting from the band that first started off as a joke band to make fun of metal bands. One thing I cannot take away from them is that they write kick ass music. I am not very versed in GWAR’s catalog, but this is definitely one of my favorite albums from them. So, I am going to give the album 3.9 stars out of five for a final grade.
