carrie2It was right around 1999, when you started to see a lot more companies come out with sequels and remakes of past horror films and The Rage: Carrie 2 was one of sorts. 23 years after the release of the original Stephen King classic Carrie, they decided to come out with the sequel which takes place 23 years after the original. Rachel Lang (Emily Bergl) is not one of the in crowd at the school and it just so happens that she is the half sister of Carrie White (although she doesn’t know it). One day, she finds out that some of the football players have a game where they sleep with girls as art of a game and her best friend Lisa (Mena Suvari) as one of them. After Eric (Zachary Ty Bryan) rejects her, she commits suicide and that messes up Rachel. Sue Snell (Amy Irving) was one of the original survivors of that horrific event and now she works at the school as a guidance counselor and she begins to notice something about Rachel that reminds her of someone from her past. While Rachel looks for revenge on the jocks, Sue is looking to stop her from the same fate as her half sister. The film also stars Jason London (Dazed And Confused) as Jesse Ryan, Dylan Bruno (Taken 3) as Mark, J. Smith-Cameron (Man On A Ledge) as Barbara Lang, John Doe (Road House) as Boyd, Rachel Blanchard (Road Trip) as Monica, and the film was directed by Katt Shea (Poison Ivy).

Emily_Bergl_Zachery_Ty_Bryan_Rage_Carrie_2This movie when it came out was slammed at every corner and I can ind of understand why people felt that way. It was Hollywood’s way of unofficially remaking the film and having it set in modern times. (Yes they would do that again 15 years later). I like the fact that Amy Irving returned for this film as she was the connecting point to the original story. The idea of the film wasn’t bad, the effort was there, but the jocks were just a little over the top for me. They are so bad that you end up wanting Rachel to get mad some how. The scene where Rachel finally does lose a screw, they basically emulated the one from the first Carrie film and just put it in a house party. Zachary Ty Bryan in my opinion has a death that no man ever wants to feel or go through. It was a nice touch for such a douchey character that he played. The one thing that they did a little different was the relationship that Rachel had with Jesse was different than what Carrie White had in the original. What doesn’t make sense to me is how old was this guy that impregnated Rachel’s mom that did the same to Carrie White? If they’re half sisters, what was he fifty or sixty when he impregnated Rachel’s mom? It’s not the best sequel out there, but it wasn’t that bad either. I am giving the film an C for a final grade.
