I feel like anytime I can include the Beastie Boys into anything I do, I am going to take the chance. The Beastie Boys were one of the most influential Hip Hop groups of their time that incorporated rock into their music seeing as they could play instruments. For today’s Soundtrack Saturday track, we are digging into the film Krush Groove which came out in 1985 and it’s a film that looks at the inception of Def Jam Recordings which is called Krush Groove Records in the film. The film starred Blair Underwood basically as Russell Simmons and it featured Run DMC, Sheila E, Kurtis Blow, LL Cool J, and the featured artist for this the Beastie Boys. The track the group provided for the album was a track called She’s On It which initially failed to attract commercial success when it was first released in 1985, but it gained it when it was re-released in 1987. The song has a pretty cool guitar riff while the band’s delivery is on spot, but a little slower than we are used to. You can definitely see the beginnings of what we would eventually see on Licensed To Ill as far as music and lyrics are concerned and it’s classic. Check out the track below and check out the film while you’re at it.
