I was watching VH1 Classic the other day when a song happened to appear on the channel that inspired me to use it for Soundtrack Saturday. Pretty In Pink was a song by English rock band The Psychedelic Furs that also inspired the film of the same name that came out in 1986. The track was originally released in 1981, but was re-recorded for the film that starred Andrew McCarthy, Molly Ringwald, and Jon Cryer in his famous role as Duckie. The film was also written by one of the 1980’s most celebrated writers and directors in John Hughes and the film was directed by Howard Deutch. What’s funny about the song is that Richard Butler actually explained to Mojo Magazine back in 2010 what the song was about saying, “The song was about a girl who kinda sleeps around, and thinks it’s really cool and thinks everybody really likes her, but they really don’t. She’s just being used. It’s quite scathing.” Nevertheless, we still love the song and the film and here it is:
