I learned this morning some sad news as it was annouced that Glam Rock, Synth Pop, Rock Legend David Bowie has passed away from Cancer at the age of 69 on January 10, 2016. The announcement came from Davids Facebook page as they said, “David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.” The man was a master of so many forms of music during his 40 plus year career that saw him release 25 albums including Blackstar which was on Bowie’s birthday which was January 8TH of this year. The man in my opinion was so influential that you wouldn’t have a lot of the bands you love without him.
Not only was he a star on the music scene, but David also had a wonderful career on the silver screen starring in some classics like the Labyrinth, The Prestige, Zoolander, Just A Gigolo, The Last Temptation Of Christ, Bandslam, and so much more. My favorite by far had to be when he starred as Jareth The Goblin King in the Labyrinth. David was such a natural and he commanded the screen like no other. He was so articulate as well and so mesmerizing in the film. I also loved so much of David’s music whether it be his material as Ziggy Stardust or Young Americans or how bout when he proclaimed that he was afraid of Americans. I even loved his collaboration with Queen for the track Under Pressure or even his time with Iggy Pop. The man was way ahead of his time and there will never be another talent quite like him ever again. Too many of our legends are being taken away from us. Your legend will live on as long as we have your music and your films to remind us how great you were. R.I.P. David Bowie (January 8, 1947- January 10, 2016). God Bless You
