driIf you have been a fan of the blog whether it was called Eddie’s Entertainment or under our current name Moshpits and Movies, then you would have noticed that our range and taste in music is very wide and vast. When it comes to the album of the week, we have never shied away from proclaiming our admiration for an artist and an album because we love music in general. While shopping at my local comic book shop, I noticed that GWAR had come out with their own comic book entitled Gwar Orgasmageddon and it made me dig deep in my Spotify to find them. When I was looking through their profile, the name of D.R.I. (which is short for Dirty Rotten Imbeciles) popped out at me and I had to listen. One of my favorite records from the band has always been their fourth album 4 Of A Kind which was the band’s foray into a more Thrash Metal sounding record other than the thrashcore sound they had on the previous three albums. The band was made up of Spike Cassidy (Guitars, Producer), Kurt Brecht (Vocals), Felix Griffin (Drums), and Josh Pappe (Bass).

D.R.I.-4-Of-A-Kind-1-11.All For Nothing– The track fades in Griffin bringing us in before Cassidy takes over with a metal riff before the band turns the tempo up in this track about a person who is always pissed off and likes making others feel worse for nothing. 4/5

2. Manifest Destiny– a track with some cool lyrics that talk about the “spread of Christianity” to the west of the US in the 19TH century when it was really about just finding gold. 5/5

3. Gone Too Long– It starts with a telephone call before Pappe’s sick bass playing takes over in this banger about being gone so long that love grows apart. Not a sappy track at all! 4/5

4. Do the Dream– a track that starts off with a melodic riff in the beginning before the double bass kicks in and the band is off in this anti-government song. 4.5/5

5. Shut-Up!– A lot of their tracks are pretty straightforward and to the point which is something I admire about them like this one that is about that person you can’t stand, but they always insist on talking to you. 4/5

6. Modern World– a real thrash headbanger that sees Brecht blurt out a bunch of words that seem to be about conformist modern world. 4/5

4 of a kind7. Think for Yourself– Another straightforward track about someone who never comes to any of their own conclusions and just adheres to what everyone else is saying or doing. 4.5/5

8. Slumlord– an absolute metal banger in the beginning stages of the track before the band turns the tempo up. You can guess what the track is about.  4.5/5

9. Dead in a Ditch– A quick track which is only 49 seconds long about a girl who drives off a cliff and dies. 4/5

10. Suit and Tie Guy– One of my all time favorite D.R.I. songs that has a hammering riff in the beginning before they launch into overdrive in a track that is about people who are basically corporate assholes. 5/5

11. Man Unkind– a pretty deep track lyrically from the band that explores how humanity or mankind isn’t really that kind at all. Just look at wars for example! 4.5/5

My Final Thoughts– An amazing thrash record from the band for sure that came out at a time when Thrash was the hot thing in metal. The band has influenced tons of bands in the wake of what they created and it’s no surprise. Just listen to this album! I am giving the album 4.4 stars out of five for a final grade.
