student bodiesI remember watching a documentary about slasher flicks and how after the success of both Halloween and Friday The 13TH started spawning copy cat films throughout the years. What if we checked out a film that knew what it was doing and wanted to exploit that throughout the film? Well, I decided that it was time to check out that film and the film is called Student Bodies. The film stars Kristen Riter as Toby, you normal everyday dorky teenager from the 80’s that just happens to always be at the wrong place at the wrong time as a killer simply known as The Breather (Richard Brando) is killing off all teenagers who decide to engage in sexual activities (pretty much the rules of slasher horror). The film also stars Matthew Goldsby (Frances) as Hardy, Joe Flood (Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult) as Mr. Dumpkin, Joe Talarowski (Sanford) as Principle Peters, Mimi Weddell (The Purple Rose Of Cairo) as Miss Mumsley, Kevin Mannis (The Possession) as Scott, Sara Eckhardt (Things Change) as Patti, The Stick as Malvert The Janitor, Brian Batytis as Wheels, Angela Bressler as Julie, Robyn Flanery as Joan, Janice E. O’Malley (The Last Picture Show) as Nurse Krud, and the film was written and directed by Mickey Rose (Woody Allen’s Bananas).

images (2)Just a little information for you guys before you click to watch it if you think it’s a  serious slasher from the cover, it’s actually a horror comedy that borders on being a spoof film. They literally take everything we’ve learned from past films and they expose them with title screens saying, “door unlocked” or “Big mistake.” The killer’s instruments of choice are a joke as well as he grabs everything from paper clips to an eggplant. It’s funny, the women he kills with an instrument and the men he kills inside of a trash bag. Then to make matters worse, all of the adults in the film wear the same gloves as the killer so you’ll have a hard time trying to solve it. The most interesting and weird character in the film went by the name The Stick (Patrick Boone Varnell) who literally does things with his body that creeped me out. He was definitely a highlight of the film with his blow up doll and other great comedic moments. The ending of the film kind of bothered me because it has that April Fool’s Day, Wizard Of Oz moment which kind of ruined it for me. As far as the killer “The Breather” is concerned, he reminds me a lot of the killer from Black Christmas and When A Stranger Calls with the use of the phone and the breathing which is done as part of the comedy. So, the only advice I can give you is to use discretion when deciding to watch this because it’s OK for a horror spoof. I am going to give the film an C+ for a final grade.
