tickNot only is today May The 4TH Be With You Day, but today also happens to be a very special day for comic book fans all over the world. That’s right because today is the day that we celebrate all the comic book writers and artists that we have grown to love called Free Comic Book Day. Hopefully, you had the chance to visit your local comic book shop or retailer and you were able to enjoy all the free comics that came out. When I was a kid, there was a short lived animated series called The Tick that was based off of the comic of the same name and I loved it. That is why I chose New England Comics own Free Comic Book Day: The Tick for today’s special post. In the story title Meatloaf Menagerie, Tick and Arthur have just foiled another sinister plan and were about to call it a day until the world’s greatest Tick collector comes along and invites the duo over for dinner. The only problem is what is this guys true motivation and is he up to something. There is that and a couple of other stories included in this free comic so check it out while supplies last.

tick 2What more could you ask for from a Tick comic book, it has a lot of that absurd slapstick humor that we have all grown to love in a short dose. Ian Nichols has been doing this for so long now that it just feels natural and he knows the character very well. The story flows very well and while there is not a ton of action, you don’t really need it to enjoy the comic. One of the stories that I liked in the comic as well is the last story in the comic which features The Tick making references to Jurassic Park as he battles dinosaurs, but then he gets amnesia and thinks he’s a coyote. I thought that story was hilarious when it needed to be while being minorly suspenseful. There’s a couple of other on page pieces in the issue as well, but overall I was very pleased with the comic. The artwork is fantastic as it looks and feels like a Tick comic and that is all I can really ask for and the panels are easy to follow along with. There were a lot of great issues that came out this week and hopefully you’re enjoying them. Check out my grades below:

Story/Plot: A
