IMG_5744Now that October is done and out of the way, it is time to dive back into comics and time to choose whatever comes out that peaks my interest. One of the companies that I would look forward to seeing what they released on New Comic Book Day has always been Image Comics. They have always managed to intrigue me with some of their titles, but it has been a while since one caught my attention until now and they brought the big guns with them. Image released a brand new series today entitled Undiscovered Country #1 which was written by Scott Snyder (Batman: Endgame) and the great Charles Soule (Curse Words) and the comic was illustrated by Giuseppe Camuncoli (The Amazing Spider-Man) and Daniele Orlandini (Darth Vader) while they also got the great Matt Wilson (The Wicked And The Divine) to be the colorist for the series. So to give you some information on the backstory of the comic, 30 years ago the United States shut itself off from the rest of the world and those who made it out of their did. So for 30 years, not one part of the globe has heard from them. A plague has stricken the rest of the world and people are dying. After getting a call from a Doctor said to be in the US, a team of scientists, doctors, and mercenaries will embark on a mission that could prove to be more than they bargained for when they step foot in Undiscovered Country. IMG_5746I definitely like the story enough to want to continue reading on, but I am definitely hoping for more information on what exactly happened told through visuals rather than an explanation at the end of the comic by the authors. The comic starts off a little slow and it has to because they have to set the tone of what is actually happening. They start in the present and they jump back in time to show how they all came together before they jump back into the present where it finally starts to get really good. What is a little weird and I hope is also explained moving forward is that if the rest of the world is normal then why are there people riding sharks on land in the US? I can understand the weird looking guys riding Bisons, but sharks and on land? I enjoy the little things in comics like the fact that they have names for Euroafricana and even more. I like that we are kind of already seeing some sub plots building that can carry the story forward. They are definitely on the right pace and they definitely left us on a cliffhanger right at the end to prepare us to want more. The artwork in the comic is actually really good and I love all of the colors that we see in some shots like the one to the left of this paragraph. They have a dynamite team so I would expect nothing less from them. The panels are easy to follow along with so you shouldn’t have any trouble there and it’s a fun read. I definitely suggest checking this title out from Image so check out my grades below:
