War Of The Covers Silent ScreamOn last week’s War Of The Covers, we had you guys engage in a triple threat match to decide who covered Black Sabbath’s The Mob Rules better and you overwhelmingly decided that Adrenaline Mob had the best version as they had a huge lead and never looked back. For this week’s War Of The Covers, we are looking to one of the most legendary and bad ass thrash metal bands of all time in the mighty Slayer. After releasing one of the most epic extreme metal albums of all time in 1986’s Reign In Blood, Slayer wanted to prove that they could be just as evil while being more melodic with 1988’s South Of Heaven. The featured track that you will all be battling over is the punishing track Silent Scream and we have two intense bands that have covered the track. In 1998, Vader recorded a version of the track for the Slayer tribute album Slatanic Slaughter, Vol. 2. In 1998, Children Of Bodom released their debut album Something Wild, but when the album was reissued, it featured the band’s cover of the track. Now it is up to you guys to decide whose version is better and as usual you have until next week’s War Of The Covers posts to decide.

War Of The Covers New The Mob RulesLast week, we had one heck of a triple threat match that saw Krokus come from behind to win by two votes in who covered Sweet’s The Ballroom Blitz better. Well now for this week’s War Of The Covers, we have another epic triple threat match that features some real titans of metal covering one of the greatest voices in Metal. In 2010, the world lost one of the greats in Ronnie James Dio in a battle with cancer. Ronnie left behind an epic legacy that included music with Rainbow, solo material, and his time with Black Sabbath which we are looking at today. In 1981, Black Sabbath would release their second album with Dio in The Mob Rules which featured the epic title track which is our focus today. In 2002, heavy metal band Fozzy which features members of Stuck Mojo with wrestler Chris Jericho released a cover of the song on their album Happenstance. In 2011, Iced Earth would release their tenth album Dystopia with Stu Block on vocals that featured a cover of the track. In 2013, Adrenaline Mob, the band that featured John Moyer of Disturbed and Mike Portnoy formerly of Dream Theater would release a covers EP called Covertà that featured a cover of the track as well. Now only one cover of The Mob Rules can reign supreme and you have until the very next War Of The Covers to decide so choose wisely and have fun with it.

Update as of 6/23/2015: As you can see below I posted this article on the 21ST, but new information has been made available to us. According to Loudwire.com, “Disturbed just released another teaser video, which is posted below the other two tweeted videos in this post. In this one, “The Guy” rises from his slumber and directs fans to the band’s website, which contains a countdown clock leading to Tuesday, June 23, at 8AM ET.” You can check that video right here and check out the other two below.

the guyThere is no denying the impact that Nu Metal titans Disturbed had on the music scene in the late 90’s to early 2010’s before the band called it quits (or a hiatus depending on how you look at it) in 2011. I always looked at Disturbed as a band that had hit it’s peak so in my view I thought the hiatus was a good idea because it gave fans something to crave for. Look what it did for System Of A Down, fans are begging that band for another album or better yet look at Faith No More. The band took a hiatus for a long time, came back and released an album, and it was a smash hit with fans. The question is could the same thing work for Disturbed? Well, the band teased out a couple of images that has fans wondering if a potential reunion is on the horizon. The first image features the band’s mascot “The Guy” on what looks to be life support (seen here) while the second image (seen here) apparently shows him awakening as he is starting to move more. The outpouring emotions that the fans are showing are all over the place as one fan states, “Don’t play with my feelings” while a more optimistic fan states, “The beast is about to awake! Disturbed is back!” Blabbermouth.net however is offering fans more of a postive outlook on it as they preorted that that band was in Vegas with producer Kevin Churko. Nevertheless, the band has also updated their logo(you can see that below) which should be good news for Disturbed fans.Since 2011, the guys have kept themselves busy as David Draiman did his Device project while Dan Donegan and Mike Wengren had their project Fight Or Flight (which was amazing), and bassist John Moyer kept busy with Adrenaline Mob and Art Of Anarchy. I guess you’ll have to stay tuned here for more info as it becomes available, but what do you think?

full devil jacket frontFull Devil Jacket is a name that may not be familiar to some, but that may be due to the fact that the band hadn’t been active for 12 years. Their only album which was self titled was released back in 2000 and featured amazing songs like Now You Know and Where Did You Go? The band was on top of the world back in the day touring with the likes of Slipknot, Sevendust, and so many more until their singer Josh Brown overdosed and almost died. He had to go on a personal journey which saw him win a dove award, but now he has resurrected the band from the ashes like a rock and roll Phoenix. The band which is now made up of Josh Brown (Vocals), Keith Foster (Drums), Moose Douglass (Bass), and Paul Varnick (Guitars) are back with a powerful new album called Valley Of Bones which was produced by Justin Rimer (12 Stones) and is due out March 31, 2015 via eOne Music. The album kicks off with the supercharged/groove laden opener Killers and the band sounds better than ever almost like they never lost a step. Valley Of Bones is a high energy scorcher that is one of the most kick ass tunes on the record. 7X Down explodes out of your speaker as the band lays down the grooves that will have you headbanging while The Moment slows the tempo down, but Josh Browns vocals are incredible on this track.

full devil jacket cd backWe Got The Love turns the tempo back up with a kick ass bass line and a hard rockin chorus that’ll have you singing along. What If I Say is an amazing song with some orchestral arrangements behind it to add some layers while Blood Of The Innocent is a berzerker of a track that pummels anything it’s path. Picturebox Voodoo represents everything that was great about Nu-Metal while paper Crown shows a lighter side of the band. August closes out the album and it’s epic in sound as Josh Brown pours his heart and soul into the track. Even though the band hasn’t been around for 12 years, it seems like they never lost their touch and I would go as far as saying that this may be their best album yet. There’s no sophomore jinx for this band and with that said, I am giving the album four stars out of five for a final grade. Check out the album when it’s released and check out the guys on the road as they tour with Drowning Pool and Adrenaline Mob. Tour dates are below:
