man of steel titleFor this week’s Super Sunday, we are heading back into the DC Universe for one of the comics that basically made them who they are today. For a lot of us comic book fans that grew up in the 80’s and 90’s, Christopher Reeve was the man known as Superman in all of our eyes. In 2006, Warner Brothers and DC Comics decided to bring back Superman to the big screen considering things were hot for Marvel at the time with Spider-Man and X-men. The only problem is their 2006 film Superman Returns was a huge flop and disappointment in the eyes of many fans. It would take seven years and for Christopher Nolan to dominate with his edgy and dark take on the Batman series with The Dark Knight Trilogy for DC and Warner to finally realize what they had to do with the Superman series and now we have 2013’s Man Of Steel. Henry Cavill (Immortals) stars as Clark Kent, Kal-El, or Superman as the film explores his origins of how he made it to Earth. Although in this film, we learn that General Zod (Michael Shannon) and the fact that Krypton was about to end was the reason for him travelling to Earth. Jor-El (Russell Crowe) and Lara (Ayelet Zurer) had to sacrifice their lives so that Kal could live on a new planet. That doesn’t stop Zod and his outlawed and banished team from trying to find Kal so that they can recover something that is key to their planet. The film stars Diane Lane (Chaplin) as Marta Kent, Kevin Costner (Dances With Wolves) as Jonathan Kent, Amy Adams (American Hustle) as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix) as Perry White, Antje Traue (5 Days Of War) as Faora-Ul, Richard Cetrone (Watchmen) as Tor-An, and the film was directed by Zack Snyder (300).

superman Visually, I think this film is out of this world and that expression, “This film is visually stunning” is 100% accurate about Man Of Steel. Where Superman Returns failed, this film made up for it in every category. There is a reason why this film won the superhero movie of the year award last year in the 3RD Annual Monster Entertainment Awards with 50% of the vote and it was because it was that badass. I can’t pinpoint one performance that wasn’t better than any other performance because the cast was superb and Michael Shannon played an excellent villain. The special effects were great and the cinematography was on point. The only thing is that I wasn’t used to the idea of the film having Superman meet Lois Lane before he starts to work at The Daily Planet. This was definitely one of my favorite films from 2013 and unfortunately we have to wait until 2016 to get the second film in the series Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. which stars Ben Affleck as the new Batman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. I am going to give this film an A for a final grade. Here is your chance to let your voices be heard as you vote in each and every category that is provided that covers music, movies, and other fun categories. You will have from now until May 1ST to decide who wins. Choose wisely and have fun with it and spread the word. You may also want to remember that we are celebrating all the best of 2013 with the Monster Entertainment Awards.

oscarsSo, the 86TH annual Academy Awards are tomorrow with Ellen DeGeneres hosting the event for what I believe is the second time. But that is not what I am writing about because I don’t watch the Academy Awards. What I do like to do is predict who I think is going to win and then I just look to see who won what. The Academy always picks movies that no one has ever seen and pins them against some movies that people have seen. For example, I’m sure that Dallas Buyers Club was a great movie, but it was never available in any theater around me versus the fact that I have seen The Wolf Of Wall Street, Her, American Hustle, etc. Anyways, below this paragraph you will find all of the movies that I predicted to win and why.

Best Picture– This one is a complete toss up for me because there are so many great movies on this list. One movie that I believe won’t win is the film Her, but If I had to pick one movie to win I think it’ll be 12 Years A Slave. Something about that movie just screams Oscar winner even though I would love to see American Hustle win.

Best Actor In A Leading Role– This award to me is between Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio. Surprisingly Leo has never won an Academy Award in his whole entire career. C’mon he was snubbed in 1994 when they chose Tommy Lee Jones over his masterful performance in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. I just think that Leo is going to fall short once again to Christian Bale who will pick up his second Oscar if he wins.

Best Actress In A Leading Role– I know a lot of people are saying that Meryl Streep should pick up the Oscar for her performance in August: Osage County, but I think Amy adams is going to take this one for her masterful performance in American Hustle.

Best Actor In A Supporting Role– This is another category that I found to be extremely tough because I loved every performance on here except for the one film I didn’t see. My heart wants to pick Michael Fassbender, but something tells me Jared Leto is going to steal this one away.

Best Actress In A Supporting Role– This is a complete guess for me, but I am going to pick Sally Hawkins for the win. She’ll be the sleeper pick of the night.

Best Animated Feature & Best Original Song: I put these two together because Frozen was a huge phenomenon in the theaters. It’s going to win Best Animated Feature and Let It Go will win best original song for sure.

Best Cinematography– As much as I loved the movie Prisoners, I don’t think anyone is going to beat Gravity in the Cinematography category.

Best Directing– David O. Russell is probably going to win this one.

Best Documentary Feature– I’m making a complete guess here because I haven’t seen any of these but I’ll go with Cutie And The Boxer

Best Foreign Film– Another complete guess, but I’ll go with The Broken Circle Breakdown

Best Makeup & Hairstyling– This is the last award I will predict and I chose this because Jackass Presents Bad Grandpa deserves it.

The 3RD Annual Monster Awards is back and we are ready to crown the best of 2013. I’ve decided to get rid of some categories, but I have also added some brand new categories to the list.
