feastAt one time, Project Greenlight was a super cool idea by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon that gave young filmmakers a chance to have their art seen. One of the films I chose for today was the winner of season three and that film is called Feast. In a remote bar in the middle of the desert, it’s normal everyday life for the patrons and the workers of the bar until a coupe show up on their doorstep. A character simply known as the Hero (Eric Dane) show sup and tells the patrons that he is being chased by monsters that want to eat him and everyone inside. After he is murdered almost immediately, his wife, the heroine (Navi Rawat) shows up to lead the bar in attempt to survive before the monsters get them. The film also stars Henry Rollins (Heat) as Coach, Balthazar Getty (Lord Of The Flies) as Bozo, Judah Friedlander (30 Rock) as The Beer Guy, Josh Zuckerman (Sex Drive) as Hot Wheels, Jason Mewes (Chasing Amy) as Edgy Cat, Clu Gulager (A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge) as Bartender, Jenny Wade (Brothers) as Honey Pie, Krista Allen (Liar Liar) as Tuffy, Duane Whitaker (The Devil’s Rejects) as Boss Man, and the film was directed by John Gulager (Piranha 3DD).

feast2005inhindibyimkhaIf you’re into having a little action and some comedy to go with your horror then this is definitely the film for you. I definitely was a fan of the way the film was set up because it was almost done like a TV show where they show a character, give a little something about them (see the picture to the left), and we wait to see what happens. The film is also a little unorthodox on who gets killed within the film, but they do it on purpose and it gets a little obvious after a while. The character named the hero gets killed almost as soon as he enters the door so that tells you something about the way the film is going. This is definitely one of those films where you pick a favorite and hope he lives. The acting in the film is actually very good and campy at the same time. The film does feature a legend like Clu Gulager to go along with the likes of Balthazar Getty, but Judah Friedlander definitely steals the show in my opinion. The poor guy suffers a lot in the film while keeping his comedy cool and I appreciate that. The monsters for the most part are cool looking, but nothing is explained about where they come from or why they are here. The film can get brutal like one of the monsters getting his appendage chopped off during the film and other stuff. You have to check it out for yourself because it’s so cheesy at times that its great. I am going to give the film an B+ for a final grade.

superman vs batmanIt’s funny how something will leak online and it will lead to the company releasing the trailer early for everyone to see. I have to admit that I didn’t like watching the pirated version of the trailer because you could barely make out the good stuff like who was talking in the trailer. Fortunate for us, Warner Brothers has officially released the trailer for every one to enjoy and I have to be honest that I am not 100% impressed with it at all. Ben Affleck looks cool in the trailer, but what is with Metal Batman with eyes that glow? I have another question, is he Arnold Schwarzenegger or something asking Superman if he bleeds like he is facing the Predator. Don’t get me wrong because there is some really cool imagery in this film like the statue with false God written on it, the day of the dead picture, or how about Jesse Eisenberg’s voice saying that “Devils don’t come from hell beneath us, they come from the sky.” That is some powerful stuff right there coming from the man who plays Lex Luthor. This is only the first trailer so I’m sure that another one will come out that wows me even more later on, but ‘m still not 100% sold on the film as of yet. Check out some of the imagery and the trailer below:

man of steel titleFor this week’s Super Sunday, we are heading back into the DC Universe for one of the comics that basically made them who they are today. For a lot of us comic book fans that grew up in the 80’s and 90’s, Christopher Reeve was the man known as Superman in all of our eyes. In 2006, Warner Brothers and DC Comics decided to bring back Superman to the big screen considering things were hot for Marvel at the time with Spider-Man and X-men. The only problem is their 2006 film Superman Returns was a huge flop and disappointment in the eyes of many fans. It would take seven years and for Christopher Nolan to dominate with his edgy and dark take on the Batman series with The Dark Knight Trilogy for DC and Warner to finally realize what they had to do with the Superman series and now we have 2013’s Man Of Steel. Henry Cavill (Immortals) stars as Clark Kent, Kal-El, or Superman as the film explores his origins of how he made it to Earth. Although in this film, we learn that General Zod (Michael Shannon) and the fact that Krypton was about to end was the reason for him travelling to Earth. Jor-El (Russell Crowe) and Lara (Ayelet Zurer) had to sacrifice their lives so that Kal could live on a new planet. That doesn’t stop Zod and his outlawed and banished team from trying to find Kal so that they can recover something that is key to their planet. The film stars Diane Lane (Chaplin) as Marta Kent, Kevin Costner (Dances With Wolves) as Jonathan Kent, Amy Adams (American Hustle) as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix) as Perry White, Antje Traue (5 Days Of War) as Faora-Ul, Richard Cetrone (Watchmen) as Tor-An, and the film was directed by Zack Snyder (300).

superman Visually, I think this film is out of this world and that expression, “This film is visually stunning” is 100% accurate about Man Of Steel. Where Superman Returns failed, this film made up for it in every category. There is a reason why this film won the superhero movie of the year award last year in the 3RD Annual Monster Entertainment Awards with 50% of the vote and it was because it was that badass. I can’t pinpoint one performance that wasn’t better than any other performance because the cast was superb and Michael Shannon played an excellent villain. The special effects were great and the cinematography was on point. The only thing is that I wasn’t used to the idea of the film having Superman meet Lois Lane before he starts to work at The Daily Planet. This was definitely one of my favorite films from 2013 and unfortunately we have to wait until 2016 to get the second film in the series Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. which stars Ben Affleck as the new Batman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. I am going to give this film an A for a final grade. If you want to get involved in the voting process for the 4TH Annual Monster Entertainment Awards which features everything from Superhero film of the year, Horror, Action, comedy, and music categories as well, then click here.

interview-hackersThe main story that I want to talk about is the fact that Sony Pictures after the recent hacking attack has decided to cancel the release of the Seth Rogen/James Franco film The Interview which was planned for a Christmas day release. Sony Pictures apparently met with all the theater owners and they came to the decision to cancel the release and here is the official statement I obtained courtesy of Screencrush:

In light of the decision by the majority of our exhibitors not to show the film The Interview, we have decided not to move forward with the planned December 25 theatrical release. We respect and understand our partners’ decision and, of course, completely share their paramount interest in the safety of employees and theater-goers.

Sony Pictures has been the victim of an unprecedented criminal assault against our employees, our customers, and our business. Those who attacked us stole our intellectual property, private emails, and sensitive and proprietary material, and sought to destroy our spirit and our morale – all apparently to thwart the release of a movie they did not like. We are deeply saddened at this brazen effort to suppress the distribution of a movie, and in the process do damage to our company, our employees, and the American public. We stand by our filmmakers and their right to free expression and are extremely disappointed by this outcome.

I for one do not agree with the decision that Sony and the theater owners made because after all we live in a free country or at least I thought we did. I f we let these guys succeed, then we might as well protest not to see a One Direction movie in the theaters because I find their awfulness to be very offensive and the company that released it is owned by Sony. While they are at it and since they seem to have so much pull in this world, why don’t they get Sony to release Spider Man back to Marvel considering they can’t seem to get that series right anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I understand that the theaters are scared considering these guys threatened any theater that showed it with acts of terrorism and I would be scared to show it as well. But it’s only art and at the end of the day we can’t allow groups who sit behind a computer screen threaten the way we live or what we are able to see. I was looking forward to seeing this film because it looked like it was going to crush all of the comedies released in 2014 and now who knows when we’ll get to see it.

In other news, President Barrack Obama spoke with People Magazine and he revealed what his favorite film of the year was and it’s Richard Linklater’s film that took 12 years or so to make called Boyhood. The President commented saying, “Boyhood was a great movie. That, I think, was my favorite movie this year.” I hope David Fincher doesn’t get too upset because apparently Michelle Obama commented on his most recent film Gone Girl which starred Ben Affleck saying, “I’ve read others [since, but] I read ‘Gone Girl’ a couple summers ago, which is one of my favorites. The book is much better than the movie.”

In other news related to Sony Pictures, they plan to reboot Spider-Man once again. This is all news according to what the hackers have released to the public which apparently means it is going to get a complete reboot treatment with Andrew Garfield already being fired. Here is a quick recap from Screencrush.com, “A quick recap for anyone who has missed the ongoing saga behind this superhero series, things began when it was confirmed that Marvel was negotiating to use Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War. It was then revealed that Sony wanted to bring Sam Raimi back into the fold. Talk of an all-new Spider-Man series was put on the table, with Marvel offering to foot a majority of the bill while Sony held onto the creative rights. Captain America: Civil War directors The Russo Brothers have offered to produce this new trilogy. But, Sony wanted Captain America: Civil War to set up their The Sinister Six spin-off. Also, the directors of The Lego Movie are developing an animated comedy, and an all-female spin-off is still being planned.”
