War Of The Covers Rebel YellWe didn’t have a War Of The Covers last week and we apologize for that as we kind of took a Vacation last week. Nevertheless, we have the results of the previous one with Fallen Man easily defeating Fozzy in who covered L.O.V.E. Machine by W.A.S.P. better. Well this week we have an interesting battle for all of you out there as we have a fatal four way match to decide who covered Billy Idol’s Rebel Yell better. In 2007, Nu Metal act Drowning Pool released a cover of the track for their first record with Ryan McCombs of Soil entitled Full Circle. In 2009, Children Of Bodom released a cover of the track for an all covers album called Skeletons In The Closet. Also in 2009, Hard Rock/Metal act Dope would release a cover of the song on their fifth album No Regrets. In 2011, rock act Black Veil Brides released an their Rebels EP which featured a cover of the track as well as a cover of a Kiss song. Now only one version can reign supreme here and it’s up to you guys to decide who recorded the best version. All four tracks are worthy, but only one will make it out alive. You have until the next War Of The Covers post to decide.

war of the covers love machineI have always had the motto that if at first you don’t succeed then you try and try again which is definitely the case this week. Before we get into this week’s War Of The Covers, we are here to inform you that Vader won last week’s challenge by gaining 78% of the votes making their version of Slayer’s Silent Scream the king. This week we have an interesting battle for all of you out there as we attempt something we have never done before. This week we have an unsigned/independent band taking on a nationally signed act in this week’s War Of The Covers. For this week’s battle, we are looking at legendary LA metal act W.A.S.P. whose seminal hit from their self titled 1984 debut L.O.V.E. Machine which is the subject of our battle this week. In 2002, metal act Fozzy which features WWE wrestler Chris Jericho released a cover of the song for their second studio album Happenstance. In 2007, legendary Unsigned/Independent act Fallen Man released their 3RD full length album Reborn which featured a cover of the track. Now only one of these versions can reign supreme and it’s totally up to you guys to decide so choose wisely and just have fun doing it.

War Of The Covers New The Mob RulesLast week, we had one heck of a triple threat match that saw Krokus come from behind to win by two votes in who covered Sweet’s The Ballroom Blitz better. Well now for this week’s War Of The Covers, we have another epic triple threat match that features some real titans of metal covering one of the greatest voices in Metal. In 2010, the world lost one of the greats in Ronnie James Dio in a battle with cancer. Ronnie left behind an epic legacy that included music with Rainbow, solo material, and his time with Black Sabbath which we are looking at today. In 1981, Black Sabbath would release their second album with Dio in The Mob Rules which featured the epic title track which is our focus today. In 2002, heavy metal band Fozzy which features members of Stuck Mojo with wrestler Chris Jericho released a cover of the song on their album Happenstance. In 2011, Iced Earth would release their tenth album Dystopia with Stu Block on vocals that featured a cover of the track. In 2013, Adrenaline Mob, the band that featured John Moyer of Disturbed and Mike Portnoy formerly of Dream Theater would release a covers EP called Covertà that featured a cover of the track as well. Now only one cover of The Mob Rules can reign supreme and you have until the very next War Of The Covers to decide so choose wisely and have fun with it.

Not too many people remember that when Chris Jericho of WWE fame started Fozzy that they primarily did cover songs and their first album is entirely covers with the exception of one song. Most people also do not realize that Fozzy was basically Stuck Mojo with Chris on vocals. Anyways on the first record (the self titled debut), the band covers everyone from the 80’s from the Scorpions, Judas Priest, Krokus, Twisted Sister, and the track that I chose for the Cover Of The Week Over The Mountain by Ozzy Osbourne. This is definitely not an easy song to cover because Randy Rhoads was such a master at guitar and the band does an OK job at covering the solo, but cover songs are your interpretation of the tracks. Chris Jericho also receives a little help on vocals in this track as the cover also features Butch Walker of the Marvelous 3 fame and I have to be honest, but Butch’s vocals are my favorite on the song even though Jericho provides that Metal voice to the song. I think this is a pretty good cover and so why don’t you check it out below and check out Fozzy because their material is amazing.

The title of the piece speaks for itself as I announce that the Revolver Golden Gods Awards show just got a little more badass as Revolver Magazine just announced that Glenn Danzig and his solo band, Danzig, was announced as a performer. The Golden God awards is the one award show that is strictly for us metal fans and they have catered to us over the years with great performances from some of today’s great artists. We have seen artists like Alice Cooper, Marilyn Manson, Fozzy, Asking Alexandria, Volbeat, Devildriver, and we’ve seen special performances like Avenged Sevenfold playing Mouth For War with Vinny Paul, Sebastian Bach playing with Asking Alexandria, Dee Snider coming out to play with The Black Veil Brides, and so much more. The event is awesome and Doyle from The Misfits is going to perform with Danzig in a night that already features Metallica, Stone Sour, Five Finger Death Punch, Anthrax, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and Halestorm. The event is going to be broadcasted on AXS TV, Facebook, and XBOX Live on May 2, 2013. If you’re a metal fan, then you do not want to miss this one.  Here’s one of my favorite Danzig songs to pump you up:
