halloween 2018 trailer main (Custom)There are several questions heading into today’s release of the brand new film Halloween which is the 11TH entry in the storied franchises history. One of the main questions heading into this film is where and when in the franchise’s timeline does the film take place and I can tell you now that only John Carpenter’s 1978 landmark release counts as canon. It has been 40 years since that eventful day in 1978 and Michael (Nick Castle) has been locked up for 40 years while Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) has had to learn to live with the traumatic experience. Michael (also played by James Jude Courtney) is about to be transfered to a new facility to live out his days, but after a podcast crew shows him the mask, he has other plans that take precedent and Haddonfield is not safe from the clutches of a monster. The film also stars Judy Greer (Cursed) as Karen, Andi Matichak (Blue Bloods) as Allyson, Haluk Bilginer (Ice Age) as Dr. Sartian, Will Patton (Dog Days Of Summer) as Officer Hawkins, Rhian Rees (Laurels) as Dana Haines, Jefferson Hall (Game Of Thrones) as Aaron Korey, Virginia Gardner (Project Almanac) as Vicky, Dylan Arnold (Fat Kids Rule The World) as Cam, Miles Robbins (Blockers) as Dave, Drew Scheid (Stranger Things) as Oscar, and the film was written and directed by David Gordon Green (Our Brand Is Crisis) with Danny McBride (Your Highness) also serving as a writer.

Halloween2018Spoiler Alert: I am warning right now that there may be information leaked here about the film. One of the things that I liked about the film was that even though they may have erased every film from the franchise that had happened after the release of the 1978 film, there were several nods to those films. The first one is the gas station scene which shows men in the garage that had been killed with one having his jumpsuit taken off of him just like Halloween 4. The bathroom scene could be a nod to Rob Zombie’s first film, but I doubt it. Then there is the scene we all see in the trailer with the long continuous shot of Michael walking into the garage and then into to the house to murder the woman making the sandwich is a nod to Halloween II because that woman lived in that film. Then there is the scene when kids are trick and treating and you can see that three kids are wearing the silver shamrock masks from Halloween III: Season Of The Witch. There are also several nods to the original film like the scenes outside the house with the laundry hanging on the wire or Allyson looking outside her classroom to see her Grandmother. So as you can see, there are a lot of goodies to try and find within this film, but enough of that because you are probably wondering what I thought of the film.

NEj7QeYa2Zgjmn_1_1I was definitely excited to see the next film in my favorite horror franchise and the film definitely did not disappoint me at all. I know a lot of people were skeptical heading into this film with one reason being that Danny McBride was attached as a writer, but let me tell you he does not let you down. Were there funny moments thrown in the film? Sure, but they were subtle and they came at the right times and it wasn’t overwhelming. One thing that I will say is that if you are looking for some brutality then you don’t have to worry because Michael will provide you with plenty of moments that are unforgeable like the human jack o lantern that you see in the picture. While he may have only killed five in the first film, he definitely makes up for it in this film and the final fight scene was poetic in my opinion. Dr. Sartian was no Dr. Loomis, but he added a different element to the story that you won’t see coming. I also enjoyed how they treated Laurie Strode as they imagined how the last forty years would have gone down and I am OK with it. The cinematography was great, the sets was fantastic, and the acting was well done. What more could you ask for? This definitely made up for Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 and with the way the film ends, I think I am OK with it. If they decided to do another one I would be intrigued, but if they ended it with this one then I am OK with that too. I am going to give the film an A- for a final grade.

Fox-Disney-700x300One of the biggest megadeals was pulled off three days ago after much speculation that the Walt Disney Company was inquiring about purchasing some assets from Rupert Murdoch and his company Fox. Disney paid them 52.4 billion which means that the company that owns Star Wars, Marvel, ESPN, ABC, will now acquire 21ST Century Fox which includes 20TH Century Fox, 20TH Century Fox Television, any Fox owned cable networks (FX and National Geographic), as well as Fox’s 30 percent share in HULU. While the deal may seem insane, it is a huge power move for Disney who is essentially number one in films, but it powers them up with the number three company in film in Fox. Now if you need me to spell out what the company now owns, let me do that for you then. The company now owns the Alien franchise, Predator, The Fantastic Four, X-Men, Deadpool, Avatar, Ice Age, the Planet Of The Apes reboots, The Simpsons, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, How I Met Your Mother, FuturamaFirefly, and The X-Files. That is just the tip of the iceberg that the company now owns as they get ready to develop their own streaming service for the public.

thumb-1920-618647Now what I am most excited about when it comes to this deal are the possibilities as far as the MCU is concerned. They have already promised that Deadpool 2 would remain rated R, but just imagine what they can do moving forward with Phase 4 of the MCU. We know that Spider-Man 2 and Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 will be Phase four films, but there is not that much else that we do know and what a better time to add the X-Men and the Fantastic Four to the mix. Just think of all the characters that they will have access to moving forward and what kind of story lines that they’ll be able to explore as well. We have seen through three phases that the big boss villain at the end of it has been Thanos we get to fully meet him in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, but who is going to be that big boss villain moving forward after that? If you ask me, the next possible villain for it all could be the one and only true eater of worlds in Galactus. We could also stars introducing villains like Kang The Conqueror, Namor, and even some X-Men villains like Mister Sinister, Apocalypse (or at least do him justice), and Omega Red to name a few. As you can tell I am pretty excited for that aspect of the merger and the fact that all of the Xenomorphs are now Disney Princesses too. It remains to be seen what they will do with all this property and what the current films coming out will mean for Marvel (New Mutants and Dark Phoenix). Stay tuned and we will try to keep you updated!
