DCeased-6-AWe are officially one day away from Halloween which is so exciting because everything in the comic book universe has been building up to this very moment. Back on May 1ST of this year. DC Comics released a horror themed miniseries involving the whole entire DC Universe entitled DCeased. The comic follows the events of the of the war with Darkseid who may look defeated, but he has one ace up his sleeve. You see he kidnaps Cyborg and he brings him to his world where he unleashed the Anti Life Equation which infects all social media and turns people into bloodthirsty zombies. Everyone you can think of has been infected and has turned as evidenced in the previous five issues from Batman, The Flash, Aquaman, Killer Croc, and now humanities only hope Superman. That takes us to today’s issue DCeased #6 which was once again written by Tom Taylor and illustrated by Trevor Hairsine. In this issue, Wonder Woman feels that she needs to take the mantle to handle the Superman problem despite the fact that the remaining heroes and villains that are alive scramble to load humanity into arcs that they had built. Can Wonder Woman stop the immovable force or will Superboy have to step up to do something no child should ever have to do? All of those questions will be answered in this issue. For more information, click here to go to DC’s website.

DCeased-6-1I think that this is honestly the first time I had an issue with the writing when it came to this comic because I felt a little rushed in this issue. What I am hoping is that they plan to continue this story line because then they could answer a whole lot of questions that were left unanswered. One of those questions is what does Superboy do exactly and where is Superman? With Damian Wayne now as Batman and obviously Jon Kent having to take over the Superman role, are we going to get a series following them in this new world? It was a rushed conclusion to a miniseries especially after a holy sh** moment that leads up to the ending. That was one hell of a moment that I wish I could tell you, but it’s worth the trip to that point. There is this one moment in the comic that is just absolutely hilarious and if you remember Batman always keeps a contingency plan file on how to defeat all the superheroes if they turn bad. Well he pisses off Green Arrow (DC’s version of Hawkeye) because there isn’t one file on him which means Batman never thought he was a threat to begin with. That was a funny moment that gets revisited again in the comic. I have been a fan of the artwork since the first issue and I have loved the horror variants that have come with them from Yasmine Putri with this issue being Critters. I have personally collected every single one and I seriously hope they continue this because I would love to see more from it and more Horror parody covers. The action scenes in the comic are great and the horror portrayed in it is awesome as well. Check out my grades below:

Story/Plot: A-

The summer is dwindling down which means that the summer of blockbusters is almost over and it’s time to look forward to the fall. I recently watched three films and I have a small little review of all three which are Sinister 2, American Ultra, and Hitman: Agent 47. The films were released today so choose wisely and enjoy!

sinister 2Sinister 2– Back in 2012, we were introduced to an evil demon known as Bughuul who gets children to commit unthinkable acts to their parents. In the first film Ethan Hawk was an author who was researching all of the weird crimes for a book that he was writing with the help of Sheriff Deputy So & So (James Ransone). As we all know, Ethan Hawke’s character dies and now the ex- deputy So & So is back and this time he is obsessed with solving the mystery. While on the journey, he runs into a mother (Shannyn Sossamon) and her twin sons who are living in an old house that has been marked for death. I truly believe that the first Sinister was just brilliant and spooky while this one just tries to spook you with the cheap scares and some gruesome kill scenes. The film isn’t terrible, but it definitely wasn’t better than the first despite the fact we get to see Bughuul a little bit more. The film also stars Lea Coco, Robert Daniel Sloan, Dartanian Sloan, Lucas Jade Zumann, and Nicholas King as Bughuul. I am giving the film a C- for a final grade

american ultraAmerican Ultra– There was quite some hype heading into this film as some were saying that if Pineapple Express (a personal favorite of mine) and all The Bourne Films had a baby this would be their child. The film stars Lex Luthor himself Jesse Eisenberg as a stoner who has no idea that he is a Government secret weapon until he is activated by his creator while at work. Along with his girlfriend Phoebe (Kristen Stewart), they’ll go one heck of an adventure as they try to avoid ultimate extinction. I have to be honest with all of you and say that I really enjoyed watching this film even though I had no expectations heading into it. It’s fun and it’s a different kind of way to handle secret agent films to make it more hip to the younger crowd. The film also stars Topher Grace, Connie Britton, Walton Goggins, John Leguizamo, and Bill Pullman to name a few. I am going to give this film an A- for a final grade.

agent 47Hitman: Agent 47– I honestly didn’t know what in the world was wrong with the Original Hitman movie that starred Timothy Olyphant, but then again I am not in charge of these things. Well, Agent 47 returns to the big screen in Hitman: Agent 47, but the role is played by Rupert Friend (Pride & Prejudice) who is a man on a mission. This time he is looking for a woman by the name of Katia (Hannah Ware) who is just as special as him and can lead him directly to his target, but he has to get her before Syndicate agent John Smith (Zachary Quinto) does. If you’re looking for a very high body count then you’ll want to check this out, but some of the interactions are a little awkward at times during the film. Look for a full review coming next week in Ass Whoopin Wednesday. The film also stars Jürgen Prochnow, Ciaran Hinds, Angelababy, and Dan Bakkedahl to name a few. If you want to know what grade I gave this film, then you’ll have to wait for the full review coming on Wednesday.

superman vs batmanIt’s funny how something will leak online and it will lead to the company releasing the trailer early for everyone to see. I have to admit that I didn’t like watching the pirated version of the trailer because you could barely make out the good stuff like who was talking in the trailer. Fortunate for us, Warner Brothers has officially released the trailer for every one to enjoy and I have to be honest that I am not 100% impressed with it at all. Ben Affleck looks cool in the trailer, but what is with Metal Batman with eyes that glow? I have another question, is he Arnold Schwarzenegger or something asking Superman if he bleeds like he is facing the Predator. Don’t get me wrong because there is some really cool imagery in this film like the statue with false God written on it, the day of the dead picture, or how about Jesse Eisenberg’s voice saying that “Devils don’t come from hell beneath us, they come from the sky.” That is some powerful stuff right there coming from the man who plays Lex Luthor. This is only the first trailer so I’m sure that another one will come out that wows me even more later on, but ‘m still not 100% sold on the film as of yet. Check out some of the imagery and the trailer below:

superman doomsdayFor today’s Super Sunday film, we are travelling back to the DC Universe to take a look at an animated film that I always wished they had a made a live action version. The film is 2007’s Superman/Doomsday which features the battle between Superman (Adam Baldwin) and the alien destruction machine Doomsday. You see Lex Luthor (James Marsters) is still reeling from the fact that he can’t defeat Superman or do anything without the savior of Metropolis knowing. While on a digging expedition, a team hired by Luthor accidentally let’s out a absolute killing machine known as Doomsday. Doomsday will make his way to Metropolis where he and Superman will fight to the death (literally). After Superman saves Metropolis once again, he unfortunately dies or so at least we think and the city especially Lois Lane (Anne Heche) mourns his death. Then all of a sudden, Superman has risen from the grave to save the day once again, but Lois begins to notice that he isn’t acting the same as he used to. Luckily, Lois and one of Superman’s robots is on the investigation as they discover that Lex Luthor has been up to something very dastardly. The film also stars John DiMaggio (Futurama) as Toy Man, Tom Kenny (Spongebob Squarepants) as The Robot, Swoosie Kurtz (Liar Liar) as Martha Kent, Ray Wise (Robocop) as Perry White, Adam Wylie (The Smurfs 2) as Jimmy, and the film was directed by Lauren Montgomery (Superman/Batman: Apocalypse) and Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series).

doomsdayOne of the best parts of this film is the fight scene between Superman and Doomsday, it felt like that fight was never going to end. I always thought that this should have been explored in a live action manner, but nevertheless we got it as an animated film which means they can do more than they could in a live action film. I like how dark the film became when Superman returned from the grave (or at least you think he does), but the end battle between the two Supermen is pretty good as well with the real Superman donning a new suit. The animation for the film is still in the style of the 90’s animated series which I love more than today’s animation.  The film is PG-13 which means that even though there isn’t any sex or anything, there is still some adult subject matter in it like it’s known that Superman takes Lois Lane for weekend escapades at The Fortress Of Solitude in this film. The film is only 75 minutes long so, it doesn’t feel like a huge investment of time, but it is well worth it if you are a Superman fan like me. If you have the special two disc edition of the film, it comes with the comic The Death of Superman on a special CD-Rom disc that you can check out as well.

suicide squadSome big news for fans of DC Comics and the highly anticipated David Ayer directed Suicide Squad project was released yesterday that will surely leave mixed emotions across the scope. Jared Leto, the Oscar winning actor (for Dallas Buyers Club) has officially signed on to play The Joker in the new Suicide Squad film while Will Smith (Men In Black, Independence Day) has signed on to play Deadshot. Both of them are going to be joined by Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) who plays Rick Flagg and Margot Robbie (The Wolf Of Wall Street) who plays Harley Quinn. Those are the big names that are attached to the film, but they are joined by lesser known actors Jai Courtney (Divergent) who will play Captain Boomerang and supermodel Cara Delevingne will play Enchantress. The group have begun pre-production on the film and it’s set to film in and around Toronto from April to about September.

david_ayerWarner Bros. Studios worldwide production boss Greg Sullivan had this to say in a statement regarding the film, “The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one. David Ayer returns to the studio where he wrote ‘Training Day’ and brings his incredible ability to craft multidimensional villains to this iconic DC property with a cast of longtime Warner collaborators Will Smith and Tom Hardy, and other new and returning favorites.” Apparently, the studio is still looking for someone to play the pivotal role of Amanda Waller, the woman in charge and responsible for the Suicide Squad, but all signs are pointing to Viola Davis (How To Get Away With Murder) potentially having the role. Also, there is a good possibility that Jesse Eisenberg could be joining the cast to reprise his role as Lex Luthor after having shot Superman V. Batman. The film has a theatrical release date of August 5, 2016.

Van Damme Kickboxer 1In other news, Kickboxer the remake apparently has it’s final star to get the cameras rolling. This is one of those films that I truly believe doesn’t need a remake because the first was so classic, but Hollywood calls the shots and this one is moving ahead with Jean Claude Van Damme, “The Muscles From Brussels”, is returning for the remake of the film, but not to take the role you think he is. Dennis Chan played the role of Xian Chow in the original Kickboxer film, but now Jean Claude is going to be playing him in the new film as he mentors Alain Moussi (White House Down) who now plays the role of Kurt Sloane to take on Tong Po who will now be played by WWE Superstar Dave Bautista (Guardians Of The Galaxy). They are also joined by George St. Pierre, Sam Medina, and T.J. Storm. According to The Hollywood Reporter Producer Ted Fields commented on JCVD joining the cast, “We are so excited to have Kickboxer roll into production and to have JCVD in the role of Master Chow, passing the torch to Alain, to have him lead the franchise to a new generation.” Tony Jaa was originally supposed to play the part of Master Chow, but due to scheduling conflicts, he had to drop out of the film.

It’s almost the end of 2014 which means that the best of lists are going to start rolling out and people re going to be thinking of what rocked or what sucked about 2014.
