2017I have been asking myself for a week now, “who is going to top that stand up comedy special by Vir Das?” That is definitely a serious question to ask, but it also shows how great Netflix has been in the last five years as far as producing great content because I feel we might have another one today. In the last fifteen years or so, there has always been one constant in the world of comedy from whether it is having your own TV show on FX or producing great comedy specials, it’s that Louis C.K. has been a constant in our lives. Louis C.K. teams up with Netflix to produce what I believe to be his ninth overall hour or so long comedy special (I could be wrong, there could be more) in Louis C.K. 2017. In 2017, Louis talks to us about all sorts of interesting topics that range from abortions, the right to kill yourself, why you look stupid during beheadings, religion and how Christianity won, rescue dogs, drugs for dogs, stereotypes, public school teachers, Achilles, email fights, Magic Mike, and so much more in this hilarious special filmed live in Washington D.C.

louisI have been reading some of the reviews that are out there about this special and some of them I do have to disagree. Yeah sure, we are not all going to think that everything a comedian says is hilarious, but this was not a stupid comedy special. Louis definitely entertains in an only a way that he knows how to and that is connecting with his crowd. He does that through the various topics that he talks about and I think the abortion one was ballsy, but it’s 2017 so it’s not really a ballsy topic. One of my favorite topics that he covered in the special that I thought was funny was his whole bit on religion and how Christianity basically won that fight just because all you have to say is what year it is to validate that answer. I thought his bit on Magic Mike and why he can’t watch the whole film was hilarious and probably a dilemma that most males in the world go through. There were some very funny moments in the special, but then there were moments that you wanted him to move on and those were few and far between. I definitely think that this is a special that you should give a chance because he is hilarious. I am going to give the special an B+ (almost an A-) for a final grade.

jim gaffiganI was watching TV Land one day when I noticed a commercial for a hilarious new series that is going to premiere this year from Comedian Jim Gaffigan which is called, yep you guessed it The Jim Gaffigan Show. So, I took to the internet to try and find a stand up comedy special that featured the comedian because he is hilarious. So, I found this comedy special Jim Gaffigan: Mr. Universe on Netflix from the Warner Theater in Washington DC. The comedian originally released the CD/DVD back in 2012 for five dollars after Louis C.K. and Aziz Ansari were able to pull it off. In this comedy special, the comedian tackles every kind of topic possible that is funny from kids, home birth, Disney, useless picture taking, exercise, bodybuilders, McDonald’s and our obsession with it, speedwalkers, being spoiled, sock and underwear jokes, whales, bread bowls, Subway, Vitamins, and so much more.

jim gaffigan 2Jim Gaffigan is one of the funniest comedians on the scene who makes being a little overweight kind of funny because you know it’s true. The first time I ever saw Jim Gaffigan was this funny bit he did on Hot Pockets and so I remembered how funny that was and it was a no brainer to watch this. One of my favorite topics of the show was his bit on exercise because every emotion he talked about was exactly how I felt every time I went to the gym. There are machine sin there that make absolutely no sense to use like the stair master and why spend money on a personal trainer when you are already sending money for the gym. The bit he does on McDonald’s is so sad, but it so true that you have to listen to it. This was one of those rare specials that I couldn’t stop laughing at just about every single joke and it was laugh out loud, almost falling to the floor laughing that was involved. I definitely suggest that every stand up comedy fan check this out or any special that Jim Gaffigan has. I am going to give this special an A for a final grade because it is funny.

louis ckSo, I missed the chance of having a stand up special review last week and its all due to a comedy special that I stopped watching after ten minutes because the guy just wasn’t that funny to me, but i have one for you this week. I was cruising through my Amazon Prime because I wasn’t really inspired to watch anything on Netflix and I came across an HBO comedy special by Louis C.K. from back in 2007. For anyone that doesn’t know, it was considered something to have an HBO special, it was like you made it in the industry if you had one. The comedy and TV star traveled to the Henry Fonda Theater in Los Angeles for this comedy special titled Louis C.K.: Shameless which was the follow up to One Night Stand which also aired on HBO. In the special, he tackles so many funny issues like a bumper sticker, an annoying friend, dumb cultures and ┬átrip to a coffee shop, fat guy problems, marriage and kids vs the single life, and not having much of a sex life after you get married. The show is funny and Louis delivers it in his own unique brand of stand up comedy.

louisI absolutely loved this comedy special from Louis C.K. because it established him as a funny go to guy on the stand up scene. One of my favorite bits in the special was when he talked about being told to suck a bag of dicks all because he cut off a guy in traffic. It was hilarious how he over-analyzed what the guy had told him because it was a new concept to him. Another segment that I was relating to was the fat guy problems which stem with having tits, not looking like you are eating all of the cookies at a party even though you are, and girls not wanting to bang fat guys. You could just tell in the special that he was having just as much fun doing his stand up as the crowd was listening to all his bits. He definitely connected real well with the crowd and he got a lot of them laughing all special long including me. I’m telling you that you will not regret watching this special and I’m not sure if it’s on Netflix, but I know it’s on Amazon Prime. So, I am telling all of you to take the time to watch this special as I am going to give the special an A for a final grade.
