Pedal Cup Bracket 2 FINALS CHAMPIONThe dust has finally cleared and we have a clear cut winner by a mile and there is nothing controversial about the win. BABYMETAL won the match fair and square with the power of their fan base. I’ve seen this happen over the years during the Pedal To The Metal Tournaments when the fan bases of Kreator, Destruction, and Queensryche all led them to be winners. I post a link of the tournament to every single band’s page giving everyone a equal shot at winning and they did just that beating Behemoth 334 to 80. I gave everyone three options on how to vote and the fan base killed it and showed up in style for sure. It was definitely one heck of a win for the Japanese Kawaii Metal band, but that wasn’t the only match you could vote on. We also had the third place match that saw the final four runner ups Moonspell take on Morbid Angel. Moonspell jumped out to an early lead and believe me they never looked back earning them a third place finish. It’s sad that this is over for now and it won’t be until 2022 until we do another one, but we have the Euros coming up in two years so we’ll see you there. Once again, Congratulations to BABYMETAL!

pedalcup trophyThat is right metal heads, the finals of the first ever Pedal Cup (the World Cup of Metal) is here and this is the moment you have been voting for. You the fans, took two bands in Behemoth (Poland) and BABYMETAL (Japan) and you voted them all the way to the finals and it was quite the run for both bands. Unfortunately, only one of them will walk away from the tournament as the first ever Pedal Cup champion. We also have the third place match which is traditionally played in the FIFA World Cup and we are going to keep that tradition as Portugals’ Moonspell take son US Death Metal legends Morbid Angel for the right to Bronze. Today, we are also revealing the Pedal Cup trophy which we dedicated and designed some specifics of it to honor the legacy of one of music and Metal’s greatest inspirations in the late Motorhead Frontman/bassist Lemmy Kilmister. There is a Spade from the Ace Of Spades on the top of the trophy along with a coin of Lemmy on the bottom and the Pedal To The Metal logo beneath that. As always, there are three ways to vote with one being on the Facebook page, the other on Twitter, and the last way to vote right here on this blog. You have 24 Hours to decide who is the first ever Pedal Cup Champion and the third place band. Good luck!!!!

Pedal Cup Bracket 2 FINALS

17498847_1430758220309198_7445967711751034253_nWhat a semifinals that we just had and while it didn’t set records as compared to some numbers from the Pedal To The Metal March Madness Tournament, it definitely set Pedal Cup records considering this is the first tournament. The most talked about match was the one between Japan’s BABYMETAL who had been blazing a path through the tournament taking on surprise semifinalist Moonspell of Portugal. Moonspell for the most part had been leading the match for maybe half of it until BABYMETAL’s fans showed up when it counted and took the match decisively. The other semifinal match featured two titans of their respective sub-genre’s of Metal in Poland’s Behemoth and Florida’s own Morbid Angel. Behemoth took the early decisive lead and just never looked back on their way to victory. Now, Behemoth has a tough task on hand as they challenge BABYMETAL for the first ever Pedal Cup crown, but with fan voting it’s anyone’s ball game. Also in the third place match, Moonspell will take on Morbid Angel because that is traditionally what the World Cup does. Check out he box scores below:

17498847_1430758220309198_7445967711751034253_nHere is the moment you have all been waiting for, it is the semifinals of the Pedal Cup in case you didn’t know is the World Cup of Metal. You guys came to play in the knockout stage, once again in the quarterfinals, and I want to thank every single one of you guys for that because without you none of this is possible. Now we have some interesting matches moving forward as the final four was set last night. We have Moonspell (Portugal), BABYMETAL (Japan), Morbid Angel (USA), and Behemoth (Poland) all eyeing to be the world champions of Metal. Moonspell has done pretty well for themselves as they easily defeated Egypt’s Crescent before holding the edge against Dimmu Borgir in the Quarterfinals. Now, they are tasked with trying to defeat the band who has recorded the most amount of votes in the tourney in Japan’s BABYMETAL. BABYMETAL scored a record amount of votes in their first match against Belgium’s Leng Tch’e (44 votes total) before surviving one heck of a match against Brazil’s own Sepultura (34 votes combined). The other match features two powerhouses of their respective subgenres. In one corner, you have Death Metal legends Morbid Angel who is the only band to record two straight shut out wins going against Blackened Death Metal act Behemoth who took care of business against Cradle Of Filth and Arch Enemy. It’s anyone’s ball game, but remember you guys have 24 HRS to vote, so vote for the bands you love and have some fun with it. As always, there are three ways to vote with one being on the Facebook page, the other on Twitter, and the last way to vote right here on this blog.

17498847_1430758220309198_7445967711751034253_nI just wanted to take the time once again to thank everyone who has gotten involved in the voting process because without you this is not possible. The Pedal Cup which is our metal version of the World Cup has had some surprising results since the first round and the quarterfinals went without a hitch. As usual, we gave you three ways to cast a vote in the tourney with one being the Facebook page, the second being my Twitter page, and the third being right here on the blog site. One of the matches that took advantage of most of the ways I gave you was the BABYMETAL vs Sepultura match and what a weird outcome it turned out to be as all BABYMETAL needed was the Twitter count to win. Morbid Angel’s win was the most lopsided of the tournament as Confess was the only band that failed to gain a vote. The semifinals are now set, but you’ll have to wait until later to be able to participate and vote for the two teams that will move on tot he championship. Check out the box scores down below:

17498847_1430758220309198_7445967711751034253_nHere is the moment you have all been waiting for, it is the quarterfinals of the Pedal Cup which is the World Cup of Metal. You guys came to play in the knockout stage and I want to thank every single one of you guys for that because without you none of this is possible. Now we have some interesting matches moving forward like Morbid Angel (rep. USA) taking on Confess (of Iran) and while our cultures may be different from each other, there is one thing they have in common and that is they live and breath metal. Literally they do because Confess are in Jail for playing “Satanic music” and there is nothing more metal than that. Arch Enemy (Rep. Sweden) look to repeat the same success they had in the previous round, but they have one heck of a challenge ahead of them in Behemoth (rep. Poland). The legends of Brazil in Sepultura are going to need all the votes they can get when they take on BABYMETAL who scored the highest amount of votes in the last round. Last, but certainly not least Portugal’s own Moonspell face a heavy task as they take on Norwegian legends Dimmu Borgir in what should be one heck of a clash. You guys have 24 HRS to vote so vote for the bands you love and have some fun with it. As always, there are three ways to vote with one being on the Facebook page, the other on Twitter, and the last way to vote right here on this blog.

Pedal Cup Bracket 2

17498847_1430758220309198_7445967711751034253_nThe results of the first round of the knockout stage of the Pedal Cup are here and if you still don’t know what this is, it’s our equivalent of the FIFA World Cup, but for Metal. We had some great matches in the first round with some surprise results. Normally in every tournament with Kreator as a competitor, the fans usually come in droves causing everyone in the world to cry foul, but this time around they have been bounced out of the cup like their fellow countrymen. The fans of Japan’s own BABYMETAL showed up for sure giving us the biggest vote count of the tournament so far. Now to figure out who won what match, we broke it down and you’ll see in the box score that we tallied the votes from this site, Facebook, and Twitter and totaled them up to give you the final result sort of like A+B+C= D. Check out the results below and stay tuned for the next round.

Pedal Cup Bracket 2

pedal cup bracketfirst round

I am happy and thankful for all the people that showed up to vote for the first half of the bracket and as promised, we now have the second half of the bracket. There were some interesting matches in that first bracket, but I think there are some equally interesting matches on this side of the bracket with the focus on Iran vs Russia. Its interesting because on one side you have the Russian powerhouse in Catharsis who have been cutting their teeth in the business since 1996 taking on Iran’s own Confess who were arrested in their own country for writing “Satanic Material” as well as speaking to foreign radio stations. The band at one time faced the possibility of execution, but now they could just face strict penalties and punishment. We just wanted to show our support to fellow metal musicians and wish them luck in both life and in this tournament. This side of the bracket also boasts matches like England (rep. by Cradle Of Filth) taking on Poland (rep. by Behemoth), United States (rep. by Morbid Angel) taking on Denmark (rep. by Hatesphere), and Sweden (rep. by Arch Enemy) vs Switzerland (rep. by Samael). As I said yesterday, you have several options as far as ways to vote in this tournament with one by visiting the Facebook page and the second by visiting my twitter page @Themonsterhour. Now you can go ahead and do it that way or you can also vote here, but you only have 24 hours to do so. So support your favorite metal bands and let the best bands win.

17498847_1430758220309198_7445967711751034253_nThis year, we didn’t do a Pedal To The Metal March madness styled tournament and that was my decision based on how busy I was with various other projects and lack of participation at the time. Although with the 2018 FIFA World Cup happening right now in Russia, I thought now was the perfect time to introduce a new tournament. The only difference between the Pedal Cup (short for Pedal To The Metal) and the World Cup is that we have 16 bands from all over the world instead of their 32 teams. If any country was left out of this tournament, hopefully in four years we’ll see you in it the tournament then. The way I chose what countries would be represented here was basically based on who had made it to the knock out stage of the world cup. Now there were some countries I had to sub out because I couldn’t find bands for those countries so I either added a country that wasn’t in the real world cup or chose some teams from the group stage. The countries (and their bands in parenthesis) are England (Cradle Of Filth), Portugal (Moonspell), Belgium (Leng Thc’e), United States (Morbid Angel), Germany (Kreator), Sweden (Arch Enemy), Norway (Dimmu Borgir), Japan (Babymetal), France (Gojira), Denamrk (Hatesphere), Poland (Behemoth), Brazil (Sepultura), Switzerland (Samael), Russia (Catharsis), Iran (Confess), and Egypt (Crescent).

pedal cup bracketfirst roundThe bands that I am most excited about seeing how well they do are the Middle Eastern bands in Confess who we support their right to creative freedom and Crescent who have been throwing it down for quite some time. The way the brackets are going to be done is exactly the same as the world cup with the teas that are obviously not in the tournament or who did not make the knock out stage placed in the spots that we couldn’t finds for. There is also going to be a new way for all of you guys to vote on this. One way is to visit the Facebook page for Moshpits and Movies and you can vote there (we are going to be setting up the matches there very soon). The other way is that you can click on the article on this page and vote there as well. The matches are only going to last 24 hours which means you only have 24 hours to vote for the band/country that you want to see move on to the finals. Check out the bands and their flags down below and stayed tuned here for more info as it comes.

morbid-angel-kingdoms-disdainedI think I described this memory before when I last reviewed a Morbid Angel album, but one of my all time favorite concert memories involves an interaction with Steve Tucker. You see, Steve Tucker is back in Morbid Angel and he told me at a concert to get off the bar top where I was sitting because no one sits down at a Morbid Angel show. I may have been disgruntled a little over his choice of words when referring to me, but I can’t blame the guy he didn’t know my name. Anyways, in 2017 Morbid Angel released their ninth studio album in Kingdoms Disdained which was their first album with Steve Tucker (Bass/Vocals) since 2003’s Heretic and it’s the first album to feature Annihilated drummer Scott Fuller with Trey Azagthoth on Guitars. The album has gained some critical acclaim since it’s release as it was voted number 9 on Rolling Stone’s 20 Best Metal Albums of 2017, number 14 on Revolver’s 20 Best Albums of 2017, number 19 on The Quietus’s The Best Metal Albums of 2017, and it took home the award for Extreme Metal Album Of The Year on this blog’s 7TH Annual Monster Entertainment Awards. Steve Tucker talked about the mindset heading into the record saying, “The first thing Trey said to me was, ‘I want to make killer music with killer people.’ To go into any more detail than that, honestly, I don’t even remember, but it was really just about, ‘Hey, man, I want this to be MORBID ANGEL. I don’t want this to be what it was being changed to be.”

morbid angel back cover1. Piles Of Little Arms– The track opens right out of the gate at you going 200 MPH with that fierce double bass playing and the face melting guitar shredding. The track is an attack on religions being forced upon the people. We’ve seen this countless times before in society. 5/5

2. D.E.A.D. [Department of Eradication and Disposal]-An in your track that explores the idea of Machines taking over the world and their being nothing humans can do to stop it. 4.5/5

3. Garden of Disdain– The track talks about God and any other being that is disgusted over what humanity has done so they want to eradicate the Earth of us. The track has your typical death metal sound to it, but when it comes to the chorus, it turns into one heck of a metal track. 5/5

4. The Righteous Voice– Another track that deals with the fact that humans kill one another for the love of their God and how we have been doing it for a very long time now. A fierce track that smashes like a sledgehammer at first before launching into death metal mayhem. 5/5

5. Architect and Iconoclast– This is a track that kind of grooves with some real heavy elements like the double bass and shredding guitars in a track that I think they are talking about Satan. I am not sure because they reference the keeper of the soil which could be Cain from the Cain and Abel story. 4/5

6. Paradigms Warped-Another in your face metal track that is just unrelenting as smashes through your ear drums. The track seems to be told in the view of a God who is sick and tired of humanity and what it has turned in to that he is ok with eliminating it. 4.5/5

19554804_10155438277872748_6482179096562658997_n7. The Pillars Crumbling– It may not seem like a track that is declaring social awareness, but it is in my opinion. They talk about how we are being led by false prophets, we value personal possession more than life, and we have fallen into a society that is fighting addiction. Check out the lyrics for yourselves. 5/5

8. For No Master– This is a track all about being free my which that enslaves us from being totally free in mind which is religion. This is more of a traditional death metal track than previous tracks. 4/5

9. Declaring New Law (Secret Hell)– My version of the album did not contain this track for some reason as you can see above, but here it is. This might be one of my favorite tracks on the album musically as it just kills. It’s a sledgehammer like track that smashes your ear drums like a death machine. This track seems to be about any dictator that takes over, he wants total control or you die. 5/5

10. From the Hand of Kings– A track that breaks down the fact that these leaders your fear are not larger than life, they are just mere men like yourself who have been able to fool you. My favorite lines: “Caesars were men not gods/Idols change as needed through time
Generals are irrelevant without war/Kings mean nothing without fools” 4.5/5

11. The Fall Of Idols– The last track on the album that talks about taking down regimes or empires and how they will be erased from the minds as if they mean nothing. The track does not disappoint as it hammers away. 4.5/5

My Final Thoughts-This is an amazing record from the guys that is just solid from track one all the way to number 11. The band sounded like they had never lost a step even with losing so many members. I just want to send props to Scott Fuller who just killed it on the record. My favorite tracks are Declaring New Law (Secret Hell), The Pillars Crumbling, and Garden Of Disdain. My least favorite track on the album would be Architect and Iconoclast. I am going to give the album 4.6 stars out of five for a final grade.
