ccgf_CDArtwork--3It has been quite some time since we last did a single of the week and I have brought it back with a bang. Who is Waylon Reavis? He is a name that all metal heads all across the world are very familiar with because in 2004 he picked up the ball in Mushroomhead and ran with it in a very successful manor. With Mushroomhead, he was apart of some landmark releases like Savior Sorrow or a personal favorite in The Righteous & The Butterfly which was subsequently his last album with the outfit. Now Waylon has a new band in A Killer’s Confession whose debut album Unbroken is available digitally right now with the physical release this upcoming Friday (May 12TH). The album is being described by some as being “equal parts beauty and tragedy and takes the listener on a journey to the edge of insanity and back.” Whatever the case may be the band’s first single A Killer’s Confession is a symphony of brutality that should leave metal heads everywhere desiring more and more of it. The track is definitely equal parts beauty and brutality as it balances the two elements very smoothly throughout the whole entire track.

a killer's confessionThe album was produced by Waylon Reavis while the track above was co-produced with Thom Hazaert with Richard Easterling (American Head Charge, Doll Skin, Emperors and Elephants) engineering and mixing the album as well. Reavis is joined on the album by fellow band members Jon Dale (drums), JP Cross (bass), Matt Trumpy (guitar), and Paul Elliott (guitar) and the band is signed to EMP Label Group which is a label that is owned by Megadeth bassist David Ellefson. When asked about his feelings and thoughts on the band and record, Waylon commented saying, “I am so proud of this project, and being able to come back with an absolutely KILLER record, with KILLER musicians. Anyone who has been a fan of anything I have done previously, is absolutely going to be floored by AKC.” When it came to signing with EMP Reavis stated, “I am so thankful to Thom and David for believing in me and getting behind this project the way they have.  I have been watching everything they’ve done the last year, and I am so proud and excited to be part of the EMP family.” As I stated above, the album will be released this Friday and be sure to check the band out when they hit the road with Nonpoint at the end of the month. Back in 2002, Vin Diesel continued to etch his name as an action star with the release of the bad ass action film xXx which saw a punk get a second chance as an agent for the government. The other part that was cool about this film was the fact that the soundtrack featured a heavy metal side with acts like Hatebreed, Flaw, Drowning Pool, Mushroomhead, and so many more on it. The soundtrack definitely introduced to one of my favorite hardcore acts today, but it also featured an artist from a 90’s alternative act that I loved in Bush. Adrenaline was one of the only original songs written for the soundtrack on the Heavy Metal side from Gavin Rossdale. While the song was a little different than what we were used to, it still featured that punch that we loved from Rossdale. The shame is that I would have loved hearing more from him after hearing this track and we eventually would six years later. Check out Adrenaline below and while you’re at it, like the official Facebook page for Moshpits & Movies here:

One of the biggest phenomenons on TV besides Sons Of Anarchy and The Walking Dead has to be the hit HBO series Game Of Thrones which has a loyal fan base around the world. Well, the people behind the most badass TV show around has teamed up with musicians to create another mixtape called Catch The Throne: The Mixtape Vol. 2 which features artists from Metal and Hip Hop like Mastodon, Ty Dollar Sign, Anthrax, Snoop Dogg, Method Man, and today’s single of the week artist Mushroomhead who provide us with the track Among The Crows. The song like many of the others features a soundbite from the show before it explodes into the track that is both in your face and punishing like a sledgehammer. The song is everything you would want from a Mushroomhead track and the band throws it all on the table creating a metal classic. What’s insane is that the band has three singers in it and it makes for an interesting mix especially this one which features the heavy vocals and the clean vocals. One of the other cool things about this is that iTunes is currently offering the whole Mixtape for free. So, download it, check it out, and in the meantime check out Mushroomhead below:

download (1)Nu Metal giants Korn have been having the time of their lives since the return of Brian “Head” Welch into their lineup which includes the brand new album they released called The Paradigm Shift which was the first in eight years with the guitarist. The band also went on the road with the 2014 Rockstar Energy Mayhem Fest and the band along with their videographer Sebastien Paquet recorded everything on the road documenting the bands experience on the festival. The documentary also features appearances from Ice T (Body Count), Upon A Burning Body, Avenged Sevenfold, Islander, Texas Hippie Coalition, Emmure, Trivium, as well as you’ll see various radio interviews the band does, and some intimate moments they share with other bands and vice versa.

kornThe documentary is actually pretty amazing even though it just seems like a continuous video after another rather than a documentary. One of my only problems with the doc is they show footage in Boston (which is really Mansfield), but the live footage is from Dallas, Texas that follows. The doc features some really cool behind the scenes stuff that you don’t really get to see if you’re on the outside looking in. Of course, the doc features the band running through hits like Somebody Someone, Got The Life, Falling Away From Me, Shoots & Ladders, Blind, as well as some of the newer material like Spike In My Veins, Hater, and Never Never. The footage that was shot is absoultely amazing especially when the band is in Colorado, that was definitely one of my favorite spots that they shot in. One of the other things I liked is how supportive they are of other bands on the bill, it’s classy! If I was you and you were as big a fan of Korn as I am , I would definitely check this out. I wonder if it’s going to get a release somewhere in the future? I am going to give this video an A- for a final grade. Check it out below:
