musicbowl 53Last year, we skipped doing MusicBowl 52 because I couldn’t find a suitable band from Philadelphia to challenge a band from New England. Well that has all changed thanks to some tweets and some Instagram posts courtesy of Nikki Sixx. Nikki has proclaimed his allegiance to the Los Angeles Rams on several occasions and I have seen Steven Tyler of Aerosmith sing the national anthem while wearing a Patriots jersey. So, I figured the perfect matchup for this year’s MusicBowl was to have to be Motley Crue vs Aerosmith as it is the LA Rams vs the New England Patriots in SuperBowl LIII (53 for those who do not know Roman numerals). It makes the most sense since Aerosmith threw the first shot at Motley Crue in 1987 with Dude Looks Like A Lady, but it didn’t matter much when Motley Crue silenced their critics with 1989’s Dr. Feelgood which happened to be the band’s biggest selling and charted album of their careers with great songs like the title track, Kickstart My Heart, and Don’t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away). One thing you do have to remember is that the original Toxic Twins were in Aerosmith who were making waves in the 1970’s when guys like Tommy Lee and Vince Neil were still in junior high. Both bands have had legendary careers and were the tops of their genre and have had some legendary comeback stories as well. The problem is that only one of them can win MusicBowl LIII much like only team will come up victorious tonight in Atlanta. I am going to run the poll in two areas with this one being one and the second run through Twitter where you will have until 8:30PM ET tonight to decide. Two legendary bands, but only one can win, vote and enjoy!!! Also below the voting poll is also some examples to help you decide.

music-bowl-51It must be a blessing and a curse to be in the MusicBowl because this is the third one that we have done and it seems to me that whoever has won this has lost the SuperBowl. Last year, Corrosion Of Conformity won MusicBowl 50, but the Carolina Panthers lost SuperBowl 50. This year in record breaking numbers, Sevendust won MusicBowl 51 by getting 89% of the vote which was beating your opponent (Godsmack) by 142 votes total. Maybe it’s the curse of the MusicBowl that has happened or maybe the Russians interfered in the game which is why they lost. No matter the reason for it, Sevendust is your MusicBowl 51 winners and what that means is that I am going to cover a Sevendust record for the album of the week. So stay tuned for that when it comes, but for now enjoy this win.

music-bowl-51This is the third time that we are doing the MusicBowl here on Moshpits and Movies, but once again we are just calling it Musicbowl 51 to go along with the SuperBowl. SuperBowl 51 is tomorrow night which means that the New England Patriots are taking on the Atlanta Falcons with one team hoping to taste glory for the first time while the other wants to be on top of the mountain for a fifth time in 15 years. For this years edition of MusicBowl 51, we are once again selecting a band that represents each team and it’s region and we are pinning them against each other with you deciding the winner. On one end, we have one of the hardest working bands from a hard working city in Godsmack who hail from Boston, MA as they take on one of Alt Metal/Nu Metal’s hardest working acts that has persevered through triumph and heartache in Atlanta’s Sevendust. Both bands have been around the scene now for more than 20 years having taken two completely different roads to where they are, but only one can come out of this contest triumphant. Is it going to be the New England Patriots and Godsmack that walk out winners or is it going to be the Atlanta Falcons and Sevendust that taste glory. You have until the start of the fourth quarter of SuperBowl 51 to decide who the winner is and let your voices be heard.

Sc%C3%A8ne-Molson-Canadian-Stage-Slipknot-2So there was some pretty scary news delivered recently regarding one of the hottest metal bands in the land Slipknot. Slipknot was supposed to start their big summer tour with Marilyn Manson on June 9TH, but apparently that isn’t going to happen at least not by that time. Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has to undergo unplanned spinal surgery. The frontman released a statement explaining, “Regretfully, I’m sending this to our fans to inform you that we will be postponing the first couple of weeks of our upcoming U.S tour. Unfortunately, I had to undergo an unplanned spinal surgery. I am recovering nicely, and all went well! I need a little recovery time before hitting the stage. We will start the summer tour in Nashville on 6/28 and continue as previously scheduled. An update on the rescheduled dates will be available in the next few days. I hope you all understand and thanks for always having my back! Thank you, Corey.” Touring isn’t easy and the physical demands of a Slipknot tour must be high. 2016 Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival - Weekend 1 - Day 2

This next piece of news certainly affects me considering that I have tickets to one of the shows on the Not In This Lifetime Guns N Roses tour. Apparently Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots has barred Guns N Roses from playing past curfew. While Guns N Roses have had a tendency of showing up on stage late in the past, Foxboro selectwoman Ginny Coppola has put her foot down making the curfew 11:15PM and it’s because of “noise issues” according to her. She stated in an interview with The Sun Chronicle, “This is on a Tuesday and a Wednesday. If this was a weekend, I wouldn’t have a problem with it. But it’s a work night. This isn’t going to be an acoustic evening. It’s going to be loud.” Apparently Gillette Stadium management tried to push for a 11:40 and even an 11:30 curfew, but those were shot down in flames. I’m not completely surprised by this decision because the curfew at the Xfinity Center which is literally the next town over from Foxboro’s curfew is 11PM and I personally do not want to be at the stadium all night long.

Muhammad-AliIn non music related news, legendary boxing champion Muhammad Ali has passed away at the age of 74. Muhammad Ali was an icon in and out of the boxing ring whether it was beating men in the ring or beating the US government for what he believed in, he was a champion. A lot of rockers expressed their feelings over the death of Muhammad Ali like Dave Mustaine who wrote on Twitter, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of one of my biggest heroes, the greatest, Muhammad Ali.” There are a lot more that expressed their thoughts and you can check them out by visiting Loudwire here. R.I.P. Muhammad Ali “Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee.”

b-mco-chris-vs-chris_nvy1Listen, I know I am not crazy and I also know that the next Superbowl (which is Superbowl LI) isn’t going to happen for another 274 days (from todays date May 7TH), but there were just too many factors that played a part in me thinking about it. First of all, this weekend saw the official release of Captain America: Civil War (read review here) into theaters and it also happens to be Free Comic Book Day which saw the release of Civil War II as well as a Captain America comic. So with all of this in my face constantly, it made me remember a bet that was waged during SuperBowl 49 between Chris Evans (Captain America) and Chris Pratt (Star Lord) an they called it Superhero Bowl 49 as Pratt was a Seattle Seahawks fan and Evans a New England Patriots fan. I don’t know why one wasn’t down for last years SuperBowl, but I would love to see it return once again. They made an incredible T-Shirt with proceeds going to charity and they dressed in character for each other’s charities. It was all fun and it was for great causes.

marvel_cinematic_universe_timeline_by_darkmudkip6-d9jhxzl copySo, I thought of a list of teams that I would love to see make the next SuperBowl in hopes that there is an actor from that city that plays a Marvel character. Anthony Mackie, the man who plays Falcon represents The New Orleans Saints. Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Scarlet Johansson (Black Widow), and Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) all can represent whatever team from the New York/New Jersey area (Jets or Giants). Don Cheadle who plays War Machine represents the Kansas City Chiefs while Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) could represent either the Oakland Raiders or the San Francisco 49ERS (depending on his preference). Chadwick Boseman is from South Carolina so it would be interesting to see what team he picks whether it be Carolina or any of the teams near by. If we go beyond the film, there’s Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) who can represent the Green Bay Packers and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Dave Bautista (Drax) could represent the Washington Redskins. Vin Diesel who plays Groot could also represent either Oakland or San Fran while Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon) could represent the Philadelphia Eagles. If we go into the television universe of Marvel, Jon Bernthal (The Punisher) could represent the Washington Redskins while Kristen Ritter (Jessica Jones) could represent either the Eagles or the Pittsburgh Steelers (depending on her preference). Meanwhile Mike Colter (Luke Cage) is just like Chadwick Boseman where it depends on his preference as he is also from South Carolina. So, keep all of these options in mind once the football season starts and hopefully they bring back Superhero Bowl once again.
