feastAt one time, Project Greenlight was a super cool idea by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon that gave young filmmakers a chance to have their art seen. One of the films I chose for today was the winner of season three and that film is called Feast. In a remote bar in the middle of the desert, it’s normal everyday life for the patrons and the workers of the bar until a coupe show up on their doorstep. A character simply known as the Hero (Eric Dane) show sup and tells the patrons that he is being chased by monsters that want to eat him and everyone inside. After he is murdered almost immediately, his wife, the heroine (Navi Rawat) shows up to lead the bar in attempt to survive before the monsters get them. The film also stars Henry Rollins (Heat) as Coach, Balthazar Getty (Lord Of The Flies) as Bozo, Judah Friedlander (30 Rock) as The Beer Guy, Josh Zuckerman (Sex Drive) as Hot Wheels, Jason Mewes (Chasing Amy) as Edgy Cat, Clu Gulager (A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge) as Bartender, Jenny Wade (Brothers) as Honey Pie, Krista Allen (Liar Liar) as Tuffy, Duane Whitaker (The Devil’s Rejects) as Boss Man, and the film was directed by John Gulager (Piranha 3DD).

feast2005inhindibyimkhaIf you’re into having a little action and some comedy to go with your horror then this is definitely the film for you. I definitely was a fan of the way the film was set up because it was almost done like a TV show where they show a character, give a little something about them (see the picture to the left), and we wait to see what happens. The film is also a little unorthodox on who gets killed within the film, but they do it on purpose and it gets a little obvious after a while. The character named the hero gets killed almost as soon as he enters the door so that tells you something about the way the film is going. This is definitely one of those films where you pick a favorite and hope he lives. The acting in the film is actually very good and campy at the same time. The film does feature a legend like Clu Gulager to go along with the likes of Balthazar Getty, but Judah Friedlander definitely steals the show in my opinion. The poor guy suffers a lot in the film while keeping his comedy cool and I appreciate that. The monsters for the most part are cool looking, but nothing is explained about where they come from or why they are here. The film can get brutal like one of the monsters getting his appendage chopped off during the film and other stuff. You have to check it out for yourself because it’s so cheesy at times that its great. I am going to give the film an B+ for a final grade.

the hungover gamesIt has been quite some time since the last entry for Cheeseball Cinema, but it’s been because I couldn’t find a film that interested me as much. I’m not saying that I am a huge fan off spoof films because quite frankly a lot of them are not as good as they used to be and now we live in a world where hundred’s of these are being made or at least it seems that way. The film I chose for this week is called The Hungover Games and if you couldn’t tell by the title, it’s a spoof of The Hangover and The Hunger Games. In this film, Ed (Ben Begley), Bradley (Ross Nathan), Zach (Herbert Russell) have survived some pretty messed up nights, but now they’ll have to fight to the death in the hungover games as they try to rescue Doug (John Livingston) who has gone missing once again to try and get him home in time for his wedding. The film also stars Sam Pancake (Legally Blonde 2) as Tracey, Tara Reid (Sharknado) as Effing White, Jamie Kennedy (Scream) as Justmitch/Willie Wanker/Tim Pistol, Bruce Jenner as Skip Bayflick, Mark Harley (The Illegal Way) as Thor, Jeff Torres (The Crumbles) as Tonto, Kyle Richards (John Carpenter’s Halloween) as Housewife Heather, Camille Grammer (The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills) as Housewife Tanya, Kayden Kross (Blue Dream) as Chastity, Kirsty Hill (A Haunted House 2) as Topless Girl, Rita Volk (Faking It) as Catnip, Jonathan Silverman (Weekend At Bernies) as Chineca Lame, and the film was directed by Josh Stolberg (Piranha 3DD).

Rita VolkThis is actually one of the more pleasing spoofs that are available out there as the film heavily spoofs The Hunger Games and The Hangover while also hitting Carrie, Ted, Taken, The Muppets, Thor, and other popular films of the last two years or so. One of the things that helped a lot with this film is the fact that Rita Volk is smoking hot as Katnip (making fun of Katniss) and after almost a whole entire film, you get what you want. There’s plenty of T&A in the film especially since one of the teams is known as the topless team (they had another name in the film) so you see a lot of it until they are killed. The guys who play The Hangover crew aren’t bad as they get most of mannerisms down, but the only real convincing one is Herbert Russell who plays Zack, he is almost a perfect match to play him. It was cool to see Jonathan Silverman again in films as he plays that guy that makes the rules in the Hunger Games (you can tell I’m not a fan of that book or film). I definitely think the film is worth checking out especially if you’re a fan of spoofs. On a scale of one being close to an a-list Hollywood film and five being the cheesiest film of all time, I am going to give this film a three for a final grade. Check it out on Amazon Prime or wherever else you watch films.

37 days until Halloween and I have another horror film for you all to check out on another edition of Cheeseball Cinema. This week I watched the sequel to the sleeper hit, Piranhaand this one was perfect for Cheeseball Cinema mainly because it was a straight to DVD release. So, here we have Piranha 3DD and it stars Danielle Panabaker (Friday The 13TH) as Maddy, Matt Bush (Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2) as Barry, funny man David Koechner (Waiting) as the sleazy Chet, Katrina Bowden (Tucker & Dale Vs Evil) as the virgin Shelby, and cameos from Gary Busey, Christopher Lloyd, David Hasselhoff, Clu Gulager, Paul Scheer, and Ving Rhames to name a few. So, apparently, the town of Lake Victoria has since been vacated since the attack of the Piranha and the Piranha are now moving to a waterpark called The Big Wet. Chet goes behind his step-daughter Maddy’s back and makes one half of the water park a strip water park and the other half for everyone else. The only problem is that the fish are going wherever they smell sulfur. After some early attacks, Maddy is trying to convince chet to close the water park before the Piranha come on opening day.

So, let’s talk about the other interesting stuff that happens in the film, you know the stuff I like to talk about. First of all, Gary Busey makes a small cameo appearance with horror veteran Clu Gulager in a scene when they trying to retrieve a cow out of the lake. The cow starts to fart as they prod it and Busey has the bright idea of lighting a match. The cow explodes and the piranhas come to feast on the two of them. We see a boat load of breasts in this movie from the beginning to the very end. I think the director made it a point that we don’t have enough breast shots, give us more. One scene that I loved was a culmination of scenes that lead to me cringing. So, Shelby is a virgin who wants to lose her virginity. She invites a boy named Josh to go skinny dipping in the lake (I know bad idea). She thinks that Josh is trying to insert his you know what into her, but it is really a piranha going up her vagina. So, the whole time your wondering if he indeed did go up or not? So, finally she’s alone when Josh comes in and asks her if she’s OK. She tells him that she doesn’t feel well and that she wants him to plow her then and there because she doesn’t want to die a virgin. I’m not going to tell you what happens next, you’ll figure it out. David Hasselhoff in my opinion was brilliant in this film and he definitely has his moments in the film. Ving Rhames comes back and he shines alongside Paul Scheer as Scheer is trying to help him overcome his fear of the water. There is one scene in the film that I wish I could tell who it is, but I don’t want to give too much away. So, I’ll say this, one character gets his head chopped off and a girl with really big breasts catches it and the head motorboats the girl. On a scale of 1 being an a-list film and 5 being the cheesiest film of all time, I give the movie a 3.
