maxresdefault-2For this week’s Ass Whoopin Wednesday film, I wanted to do something a little different and watch a film that is based off a legendary story. The film that I am talking about is the 2016 film The Legend Of Tarzan which stars Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood) as the title character. The Belgians have invaded the Congo in hopes of finding diamonds that are located somewhere. The King cannot send an army into the Congo unless he has money to pay for them so he sends his most trusted bounty hunter Leon Rom (Christoph Waltz). After encountering Chief Mbonga (Djimon Hounsou), he makes a deal to bring the legendary Tarzan to him in exchange for the diamonds. So he kidnaps Tarzan’s wife Jane (Margot Robbie) to lure him to Chief Mbonga. The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson (Die Hard With Vengeance) as George Washington Williams, Sidney Ralitsoele as Wasimbu, Casper Crump (Above The Street, Below The Water) as Major Kerckhover, Mens-Sana Tamakloe (Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation) as Kolo, Osy Ikhile (In The Heart Of The Sea) as Kwete, Antony Acheampong (The Huntsman: Winter’s War) as Kanam, Simon Russell Beale (My Week With Marilyn) as Mr. Frum, and the film was directed by David Yates (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2). Before we get into the review of the film let’s check out some stats:

legend-of-tarzan-2-copytarzan_780x430Let’s get into this stats and we start with how many kills/knock outs Tarzan had in the film and that number is about 32. There a couple of scenes where it pans away from him fighting so there could potentially be more. The whole film features flashback scenes to when he was a baby all the way to adulthood even explaining why Chief Mbonga is dead set on killing Tarzan. He has a love interest and he is married to Jane (Margot Robbie) and I say what a lucky man. She is kidnapped, a Gorilla is killed, and the chief of a village that took care of him gets killed so I think it’s easy to say that someone close to him was hurt. The big boss is defeated and you have to see how because it’s kind of a cool scene. Te film actually contains a lot of cool scenes like Tarzan swinging through the jungle or his fight with a Gorilla which is cool. The story is legendary and everyone knows it, but i like the way that they did it in this film. I think it’s a little different than what we have gotten in the past, but it was well executed. This was an enjoyable film, but was it a great film? I am not completely sure that it was a five star film, but it’s one that you can watch and enjoy with some popcorn. I am going to give the film 3.9 fists out of five for a final grade. It’s available online and on Redbox every where.

b-mco-chris-vs-chris_nvy1Listen, I know I am not crazy and I also know that the next Superbowl (which is Superbowl LI) isn’t going to happen for another 274 days (from todays date May 7TH), but there were just too many factors that played a part in me thinking about it. First of all, this weekend saw the official release of Captain America: Civil War (read review here) into theaters and it also happens to be Free Comic Book Day which saw the release of Civil War II as well as a Captain America comic. So with all of this in my face constantly, it made me remember a bet that was waged during SuperBowl 49 between Chris Evans (Captain America) and Chris Pratt (Star Lord) an they called it Superhero Bowl 49 as Pratt was a Seattle Seahawks fan and Evans a New England Patriots fan. I don’t know why one wasn’t down for last years SuperBowl, but I would love to see it return once again. They made an incredible T-Shirt with proceeds going to charity and they dressed in character for each other’s charities. It was all fun and it was for great causes.

marvel_cinematic_universe_timeline_by_darkmudkip6-d9jhxzl copySo, I thought of a list of teams that I would love to see make the next SuperBowl in hopes that there is an actor from that city that plays a Marvel character. Anthony Mackie, the man who plays Falcon represents The New Orleans Saints. Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Scarlet Johansson (Black Widow), and Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) all can represent whatever team from the New York/New Jersey area (Jets or Giants). Don Cheadle who plays War Machine represents the Kansas City Chiefs while Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) could represent either the Oakland Raiders or the San Francisco 49ERS (depending on his preference). Chadwick Boseman is from South Carolina so it would be interesting to see what team he picks whether it be Carolina or any of the teams near by. If we go beyond the film, there’s Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) who can represent the Green Bay Packers and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Dave Bautista (Drax) could represent the Washington Redskins. Vin Diesel who plays Groot could also represent either Oakland or San Fran while Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon) could represent the Philadelphia Eagles. If we go into the television universe of Marvel, Jon Bernthal (The Punisher) could represent the Washington Redskins while Kristen Ritter (Jessica Jones) could represent either the Eagles or the Pittsburgh Steelers (depending on her preference). Meanwhile Mike Colter (Luke Cage) is just like Chadwick Boseman where it depends on his preference as he is also from South Carolina. So, keep all of these options in mind once the football season starts and hopefully they bring back Superhero Bowl once again.

xxxFor Ass Whoopin Wednesdays, we have just about covered so many guys and sometimes we’ve doubled back on some, but I forgot one guy. By the time of the release of xXx in 2002, Vin Diesel (The Fast And The Furious) was being marketed as the newest action star at the time and I have decided to cover it for today. He plays Xander Cage, an extreme sports enthusiast who has a knack for breaking the rules and doing things his way. After a stunt, he is sought out by a government agent named Augustus Gibbons (Samuel L. Jackson) who wants him to go on a mission to Prague to infiltrate a group known as Anarchy 99. While in Prague, he’ll have to get close to the groups fearless leader known as Yorgi (Martin Csokas) and find a deadly weapon that has been missing for years and is feared to be with him. The film also stars Asia Argento (Land Of The Dead) as Yelena, Michael Roof (Black Hawk Down) as Agent Shavers, Richy Müller (4 Minutes) as Milan, Werner Daehn (Valkyrie) as Kirill, Petr Jákl (AVP: Alien Vs Predator) as Kolya, Danny Trejo (Machete) as El Jefe, Jan Pavel Filipensky (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol) as Viktor, and the film was directed by Rob Cohen (Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story). Before We look at the review, how about we check out some stats:

xxx 2For our good friend Xander Cage, He has about 23 kills in this film which he does with some style whether they are killed by an avalanche he causes or from his gun. We don’t know what his origin story is exactly in this film other than he has a rap sheet and he does have a love interest that he develops. No one close to him is hurt or killed that would cause him to go on a rampage and he does have a sexual conquest (we brought it back for this one). The big boss is defeated in the film, but Xander still has to go all out to save Prague in the end. This was a film that was made for the extreme sports generation as the world was experiencing a boom at the time and you’ll see it with almost every stunt Xander goes through in the film. There is some nice name dropping/placement for stuff int his film like a Metal Mullisha sticker that is caught by the camera when we are in Xander’s place. There is some cool cameos from extreme sports legends like Tony Hawk, Mat Hoffman, Brian Deegan, Cary Hart, and so many more. This film packed it all in to appease that world and it worked. We get a preview of Samuel L. Jackson doing his best Nick Fury impression or should I say we get a preview of what was to come some years later. There is a lot of action in the film and Vin Diesel is phenomenal as well as there is a lot of sexiness in the film too. I strongly suggest you guys check it out on Netflix or whatever right now. I am going to give the movie four fists out of five for a final grade.

starFor the past couple of months, all I have been hearing and seeing is a lot of hype on the new Star Wars film Star Wars: The Force Awakens from behind the scenes stories, multiple trailers, and so much more. I don’t blame the film for having so much hype surrounding it after all it is the most anticipated film of the year and I can’t wait. Entertainment Weekly has been gracious enough to release 1 new images from the film for all of you to enjoy like the bad ass with the cross light saber known as Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Besides Kylor Ren, there are images of our old friends R2-D2, C3PO as well as Daisy Ridley, Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma), and many more. The film is directed by J.J. Abrams (Star Trek) and it is expected to hit the theaters over Christmas. To check out all the pics from the set of 2 like the one to the right, just go here.

In other news, the trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s latest film The Hateful Eight just released their first official trailer for the film and it features some old friends of Tarantino’s and some cool facial hair. I’m very excited to see all that coems from that set before the film comes out including Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl) and Crossbones (Frank Grillo). But for now, click here to enjoy the pics so far and be prepared for Captain America: Civil War which is directed by the Russo Brothers and comes to theaters May 6, 2016.

We know that Ant-Man is coming this summer, but what about all the other films for Marvel’s Phase 3? Well, Marvel has announced who is going to be starring in Captain America: Civil War and thanks to comingsoon.net we have who it is right here. Here is what they report, “Set for release in the United States on May 6, 2016, Captain America: Civil War is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, “Community”) from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (Captain America: The Winter Solider, Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger). The film returns Chris Evans as the iconic Super Hero character Steve Rogers/Captain America along with Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Paul Bettany as The Vision, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes/War Machine and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. HatefulEightBannerIf you’re a fan of Quentin Tarantino’s work like Django Unchained then you are going to be excited for this little piece of news that I have for you right here. While they have been filming the new Tarantino film The Hateful Eight, the cast of the film is on the newest issue of Entertainment Weekly. Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Kurt Russell are on the cover of the issue and you have to check out the stache that Kurt Russell has for the film. Other than that, here is what Tarantino told Entertainment Weekly, “For me it has more of a western ‘Iceman Cometh’ kind of vibe about it. A bunch of guys in a room who can’t trust each other. That wasn’t a marching order when I sat down to write the script, but pretty quickly I realized this is kind of a nice coming-full-circle.” Walton Goggins, Demian Bichir, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern and Channing Tatum (who has a minor role in the film). Here’s a synopsis of the film according to comingsoon.net, “In The Hateful Eight, set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth (Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Leigh), race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as “The Hangman,” will bring Domergue to justice. Along the road, they encounter two strangers: Major Marquis Warren (Jackson), a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix (Goggins), a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff. Losing their lead on the blizzard, Ruth, Domergue, Warren and Mannix seek refuge at Minnie’s Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. When they arrive at Minnie’s, they are greeted not by the proprietor but by four unfamiliar faces. Bob (Bichir), who’s taking care of Minnie’s while she’s visiting her mother, is holed up with Oswaldo Mobray (Roth), the hangman of Red Rock, cow-puncher Joe Gage (Madsen), and Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Dern). As the storm overtakes the mountainside stopover, our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all…” Check out the cover below:

I am actually shocked that someone actual did a remake of one of the most classic films of all time. There should be a list of films that should be deemed untouchable because of the fact that there was nothing wrong with them in the first place. Well, apparently is more of a reboot or something of that nature as National Lampoon presents Vacation. The film stars Ed Helms as a grown up Rusty Griswold who wants to continue his father’s tradition so he decides to take his wife (Christina Applegate) and his two sons James (Skyler Gisondo) and Kevin (Steele Stebbins) on a cross country trip to Wally World as it will be closing down forever. I assume that Chevy Chase is going to be making some sort of cameo in the film and the film also stars Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Charlie Day (Horrible Bosses). Check out the red band trailer below and check out Chris Hemsworth’s part in it:

marvelstudioseventsmall9More Marvel News for all of you as it pertains to the films that will close out Marvel’s Phase Three in Avengers: Infinity Wars Parts 1 and 2. The film is going to be in production for nine months and Joe and Anthony Russo, who are also directing Captain America: Civil War, announced that the film will be shot entirely using IMAX and ARRI’s next generation revolutionary 2D digital camera according to comingsoon.net. The Russo brothers talked about it stating, “The intent with the Infinity War films is to bring ten years of accumulative storytelling to an incredible climax. We felt that the best way to exploit the scale and scope required to close out the final chapter of these three phases, was to be the first films shot entirely on the IMAX/ARRI Digital camera.” Senior Executive Vice President, IMAX Corp. and CEO of IMAX Entertainment Greg Foster also spoke about the announcement stating, “Over the years, IMAX has had the incredible good fortune to work with some of the world’s finest, most talented filmmakers, who continue to push the envelope both technically and creatively. We could not be more excited to deepen our partnership with Joe and Anthony Russo, a pair of filmmakers we believe are next-generation trailblazers. Marvel’s Avengers franchise has become a global phenomenon and to have it pay off in this epic way using the IMAX/ARRI digital camera is the very definition of event movie-going.” Part opens in Imax on May 4, 2018 while part 2 will open n May 3, 2019 so stay tuned here for more info as it becomes available.

Avengers Age Of UltronI am going to warn you that if you were not one of the lucky ones to see the film Avengers: Age Of Ultron in the opening weekend and if you do not want any spoilers, then you need to stop reading the article because there may be spoiler alerts. For Super Sunday, we wanted to continue with one of the most anticipated films of this year if you are into the comic book movie scene with the Avengers: Age Of Ultron film that sees our supergroup of heroes Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) in a battle that they never dreamed of as they take on the artificial program created by Stark and Banner called Ultron (James Spader). After a retrieval mission for the Loki’s Tesseract Septor, Stark gets the wild idea of creating an A.I. program to shield the world, but what he didn’t expect was that it was going to turn against him to destroy the world. Now, the Avengers have to stop him before it’s too late, but it could be a mission that they may not comeback from. The film also stars Elizabeth Olsen (Godzilla) as Scarlet Witch, Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick Ass) as Quicksilver, Samuel L. Jackson (Goodfellas) as Nick Fury, Don Cheadle (Hotel Rwanda) as War Machine, Paul Bettany (Priest) as Vision/Jarvis, Anthony Mackie (Pain & Gain) as The Falcon, and the film was directed by Joss Whedon (Avengers).

visionWhat can I say about the film that probably is’t going to be said other than you need to get your behinds to the theaters to check out the film as soon as possible because it’s well worth it. Joss Whedon does an excellent job of mixing comedy with the drama in the film much like he did in the first film, but he turns it up to 11 in this film and its simply masterful. The interactions between our heroes and sometimes the villains are priceless and very hysterical. First, I want to say that James Spader does an excellent job as Ultron and while I liked the combo of Taylor-Johnson and Olsen (they played husband and wife in Godzilla) who play the twins Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, their accents were a little weak as you can tell they were struggling with it. One thing I will also say about the film is that this was Jeremy Renner’s shot to shine as Hawkeye had a lot of screen time and it was awesome. What the movie does do is that it sets up the films that will follow as Whedon gives you clues to Marvel’s Phase three films that are still to come especially as to which Avenger will meet his untimely death in the future. Nevertheless, they keep turning up the heat and they keep lifting the bar that I don’t know how DC is going to bounce back considering they took a whole year off. There is plenty of action, drama, and a new relationship that hangs in the balance, so go out and see the film. I am giving Avengers: Age Of Ultron an A+ for a final grade.

rawLast week, we didn’t have a Tuesday Stand Up as we took the week off, but when I was having it return I wanted it to be something special. After watching the Saturday Night Live 40TH Anniversary special this past Sunday night it gave me an idea. One of the most anticipated appearances for the night was the return of Eddie Murphy to the stage for the first time in 30 years. After only getting 71 seconds of Eddie Murphy, I had to admit I was a little upset, but it made me want to watch Eddie Murphy Raw. It is one of my all time favorite stand up specials Eddie does from New York City at the Felt Forum in Madison Square Garden when stand up comedy films were films. In the special, he tackles everything from problems he has with celebrities after talking crap about them in bits, Bill Cosby, sex in the 1980’s, Marriage, American Women of the 80’s, dick threats, your mother’s cooking, Italians, and dealing with your father after a fight in a discotheque. The special was directed by Robert Townsend and it has a feature with Samuel L. Jackson, Tatyana Ali, James Brown III, Deon Richmond, and more.

eddieThis is definitely one of my all time favorite comedy specials from a man that was a master on the stage back in the day. He was absolutely brilliant and the way he delivered the comedy was uncanny and so many have tried to imitate it, but none are like Eddie. Most of the special is devoted to the battle between man and women from sex, money, infidelity, and many other issues that plague relationships in a way that is delivered with brutal honesty. One of my favorite parts is when Eddie starts to talk about Italian people because he does such a spot on impression of them and their attitudes. My other favorite segment  was the one where he talked about a conversation with Bill Cosby. He had all of the man’s mannerisms done to a science (He also has Richard Pryor down pretty good as well). As I had said above, this was a stand up comedy film back when they were films and definitely one the most essential ones to view besides his other special Delirious. A part of me wishes that the man could find his way back to the stage, but we always have these to remember. There was no one better in the industry at the time. It’s available on Netflix as we speak and I am going to give the special an A for a final grade because it’s that damn good.
