movie-john-wick-chapter-2-latino-audio-bigOne of my favorite action movies over the last couple of years was the out of nowhere John Wick which starred Keanu Reeves (Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure) as the title character. It has been quite some time since the last Ass Whoopin Wednesday post and I figured the best film to transition back into it is none other than the sequel John Wick: Chapter 2. We all know that int he last film, John Wick’s dog which was a present from his dead wife was killed and that his car was stolen. He took care of the problem in the last film, but he still needs to get his car back and he does. The only problem for John is that he thinks things are finally over until an Italian mob boss (Riccardo Scamarcio) suckers him back into the game by blowing up his house. Now the only problem is that he believes that if he does this job for him that all will be over until the mob turns the tables and double crosses him by putting a seven million dollar bounty on his head. The film also stars Ian McShane (Death Race) as Winston, Ruby Rose (Orange Is The New Black) as Ares, Common (Smokin’ Aces) as Cassian, Lance Reddick (John Wick) as Charon, Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix) as The Bowery King, Claudia Gerini (The Passion Of The Christ) as Gianna D’Antonio, and the film was directed by Chad Stahelski (John Wick). Before we get into the review of the film, let’s check out some stats:

John Wick 2john-wick-chapter-2-10These series of films are becoming my favorite franchise and they definitely turn the ante up for this one. The first film he only had 78 kills and in this film he almost doubled it with 127 kills total. I am not sure if that is the most we’ve recorded here on Ass Whoopin Wednesdays, but it’s definitely a lot. There is still no origin story because we don’t find out much about his past other than the usual oh the boogeyman is here. There is no love interest because his wife is still dead, but he has a new dog though that has no name. The big boss was definitely defeated, but there is more trouble coming for poor John Wick. I honestly thought that when Laurence Fishburne showed up that we were going to get a Neo/Morpheus encounter, it just seemed like it was going to go there. The action sequences in the film are awesome and pretty intense plus there is some really cool kills that John has. One of the things I love about the film are the various characters that we see like the mute assassin/bodyguard, Common’s character, and the homeless beggars. It makes you believe that just about anyone could be an assassin like the random sumo wrestling looking guy. It keeps you hooked in and ready to see who shows up next. There is nothing Oscar worthy about this film, but it’s fun and that is all some of us want in our action films. I am going to give this one 4.7 fists out of five for a final grade.

man of steel titleFor this week’s Super Sunday, we are heading back into the DC Universe for one of the comics that basically made them who they are today. For a lot of us comic book fans that grew up in the 80’s and 90’s, Christopher Reeve was the man known as Superman in all of our eyes. In 2006, Warner Brothers and DC Comics decided to bring back Superman to the big screen considering things were hot for Marvel at the time with Spider-Man and X-men. The only problem is their 2006 film Superman Returns was a huge flop and disappointment in the eyes of many fans. It would take seven years and for Christopher Nolan to dominate with his edgy and dark take on the Batman series with The Dark Knight Trilogy for DC and Warner to finally realize what they had to do with the Superman series and now we have 2013’s Man Of Steel. Henry Cavill (Immortals) stars as Clark Kent, Kal-El, or Superman as the film explores his origins of how he made it to Earth. Although in this film, we learn that General Zod (Michael Shannon) and the fact that Krypton was about to end was the reason for him travelling to Earth. Jor-El (Russell Crowe) and Lara (Ayelet Zurer) had to sacrifice their lives so that Kal could live on a new planet. That doesn’t stop Zod and his outlawed and banished team from trying to find Kal so that they can recover something that is key to their planet. The film stars Diane Lane (Chaplin) as Marta Kent, Kevin Costner (Dances With Wolves) as Jonathan Kent, Amy Adams (American Hustle) as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix) as Perry White, Antje Traue (5 Days Of War) as Faora-Ul, Richard Cetrone (Watchmen) as Tor-An, and the film was directed by Zack Snyder (300).

superman Visually, I think this film is out of this world and that expression, “This film is visually stunning” is 100% accurate about Man Of Steel. Where Superman Returns failed, this film made up for it in every category. There is a reason why this film won the superhero movie of the year award last year in the 3RD Annual Monster Entertainment Awards with 50% of the vote and it was because it was that badass. I can’t pinpoint one performance that wasn’t better than any other performance because the cast was superb and Michael Shannon played an excellent villain. The special effects were great and the cinematography was on point. The only thing is that I wasn’t used to the idea of the film having Superman meet Lois Lane before he starts to work at The Daily Planet. This was definitely one of my favorite films from 2013 and unfortunately we have to wait until 2016 to get the second film in the series Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. which stars Ben Affleck as the new Batman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. I am going to give this film an A for a final grade. If you want to get involved in the voting process for the 4TH Annual Monster Entertainment Awards which features everything from Superhero film of the year, Horror, Action, comedy, and music categories as well, then click here.

635532740226866485-spectre-teaser-posterSince 2013, there have been a total of 23 bond films made and produced with six different men donning the tuxedo and calling themselves James Bond with Daniel Craig being the latest. Today, we had some exciting film news because they officially released some kind of poster for the 24TH Bond film which is going to be called Spectre. Sam Mendes live today from the 007 stage at Pinewood Studios in England revealed the film title and he also revealed who would be starring as the next Bond villain. Besides Daniel Craig as Bond, the film will star Guardians Of The Galaxy star Dave Bautista as Mister Hinx, Andrew Scott (Sherlock Holmes) as Denby, and the new Bond girls are Monica Bellucci (The Matrix) and Lea Seydoux (Inglorious Basterds). Now, we know that they signed magnificent actor Christoph Waltz, but who is he playing exactly. According to a source of mine, some believed that Waltz was going to playing the role of Ernst Stavro Blofeld, but the rumor is that he is going to be playing Oberhauser.

SPECTRE_PC_016_rgb-720x480The official synopsis read as follows, “A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organisation. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind Spectre.” Shooting for the film will apparently begin on Monday, but they are still in rehearsals right now. They expect the film’s shoot to last for seven months with shooting happening in locations like London, Rome, Mexico City, Morocco and Austria. Ben Whishaw returns to the film as Q while Ralph Fiennes takes Judi Dench’s place as M. Naomie Harris is Moneypenny while Rory Kinnear returns to play MI6 chief of staff Bill Tanner. One of the other cool things about the reveal was what car James Bond was going to drive for this film and it’s a brand new Aston Martin DB10. We have the picture for you below and the film is tentatively due for release on November 6, 2015. So stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.
