sep 2This past Friday was a huge week for metal fans as we were treated to so many great things from Slayer releasing The Repentless Killogy Blu Ray, Ozzy Osbourne releasing his first single in ten years in Under The Grave, and King Diamond releasing his first single since 2007 in Masquerade of Madness. Those were not the only things to be joyous about as Brazilian Thrash legends Sepultura just unveiled the music video for their new single Isolation which is coming off their new album Quadra (it means Block in Portuguese) which will be released in 2020. The video is primarily a performance based live concert video that was filmed at one of the festivals they played at, but the most important thing to me is the music itself. Guitarist Andreas Kisser reminds us of why at one time Sepultura was being considered the Brazilian Slayer as he brings the ferocity in his guitar riffs whjich is matched by Paulo Jr.s amazing bass playing and Eloy Casagrande thunderous machine gun like drum playing. I know that there are a lot of people out there that will say it’s not Sepultura because of the fact that Max Cavalera is not there, but this is by far my favorite effort from the group in the post Cavalera era.

sepAndreas spoke to Blabbermouth.net and he explain the title of the album saying, “Quadra, among other meanings, is the Portuguese word for ‘sport court’ that by definition is a limited area of land, with regulatory demarcations, where according to a set of rules the game takes place. We all come from different Quadras. The countries, all nations with their borders and traditions; culture, religions, laws, education and a set of rules where life takes place. Our personalities, what we believe, how we live, how we build societies and relationships, all depends on these set of rules that we grew up with. Concepts of creation, gods, death and ethics. Money, we are enslaved by this concept. Who’s poor and who’s rich, that’s how we measure people and material goods. Regardless of your Quadra, you need money to survive, the prime rule to play this game called life. Hence the coin. The coin is forged with the senator skull, who represents the set of rules and laws we live by; the world map on his head delimiting the borders of all nations, imaginary lines separating people by concepts of race and the sacred.” Be on the look out for the album when it comes out February 7, 2020 via Nuclear Blast Records and check out the video below:

ozzy under the grave yardIt has been ten long years since the last time we had a single from the Prince Of Darkness, the Godfather of Metal himself Ozzy Osbourne. In 2010, he had released the album Scream with Guitarist Gus G and the album’s success was short lived. Fast forward ten years later and Ozzy has already recorded an album with Black Sabbath (13), did a farewell tour with them, and recorded a single with Rap artist Post Malone (Take What You Want). Ozzy has also had some downs to go with he ups as he had to cancel the rest of his farewell tour in 2018 due to some complications to pneumonia that sidelined the legend, but it was the recording with Post Malone that gave Ozzy hope again as he had a blast working with Post’s produce Andrew Watt. He had so much fun with Andrew Watt that he decided to record a solo album with him playing guitar and rounding out the band was Duff McKagan (GNR) on Bass and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) on drums. There are reports that are saying that even Ozzy is calling this new album the best work he has ever done and when you listen to Under The Graveyard (This week’s rock single of the week) which is the latest single, you are hopeful for the rest of the album. Ozzy himself sounds absolutely amazing on the track that isn’t your prototypical ozzy song. There is a lot of alt-rock influence in it and you can hear the inspiration for Post Malone’s track in this one. My only problem with the song is the initial guitar solo which is way too fuzzy for my liking, but we’ll see how Zakk Wylde (who had nothing to do with the album) interprets it live.
