2017 finalsIt is that moment that you all have been waiting for, the Pedal To The Metal finals is finally here and a lot of people are butt hurt over this tournament still. While I have been enjoying the tournament, I hope all of you whiners out there have your cheese and wine because the two bands that are in the finals are here for a reason and that is because there fanbase has gotten them to this very point. I mean you can not argue with Queensrÿche and the fact that they defeated Megadeth by a 1000 votes. It’s what this tournament has been all about from day one is for the fanbases to vote for their favorite bands. It has always been that way ever since the tournament started and I’ve seen the upsets like Savatage over Judas Priest some years ago or even this year with Accept over Iron Maiden which still has metal fans butt hurt over that. Two years ago or so, Death Angel bounced Metallica out of the tournament and no one had a problem with it then, but that is because that is the beauty of this tournament or any tournament you see on Metalinjection.net or even Loudwire where they have fans vote. Again without the bands sharing this or the various fan forums, there is no tournament. Who is Queensrÿche facing in the finals, well they are facing Viking Metal titans Amon Amarth, a band that has battled back many times in the tournament and they did that against Lamb Of God, who for a while looked like they were moving on, but Amon Amarth’s fans voted them back into the finals when it counted. So, there it is, Amon Amarth vs Queensrÿche for the title of Pedal To The Metal champion, you have until April 5TH at 6AM ET to vote for the pedal to the metal champion so just have fun and vote.

2017 final fourIt is here, the moment you have all been waiting for when we separate the men from the boys. Two bands are one step closer to realizing their goal of winning the pedal to the metal championship which has seen the likes of Motley Crue, Judas Priest (2013 & 2014), Kreator, and Destruction (defeated Iron Maiden to win championship) all win the pedal to the metal championship. I was wondering heading into this tournament if we would finally see someone other than Judas Priest go back to back, but after three rounds of fan voting, we are going to once again have a brand new champion. In fact, all four bands in the final four have never been this far in the tournament which makes it even more exciting and this is also the first time in three years that not a single member of the Big Teutonic Four are in the final four. For Lamb Of God and Amon Amarth, this is the first time these two bands have been in the tournament so it’s a win no matter the result for both these bands. For tournament veterans Queensryche and Megadeth, this is a chance for both bands to finally win the championship that has been alluding them both since 2011 when the tournament started. You have until March 28 at 11PM ET to vote for who you want to see in the finals. I want to remind people that without the bands sharing the tournament, there is no tournament. This is a fan base vs fan base tournament so vote for the band you love and show your unity. If you forget how it works then follow this link.

2017 final fourI am hoping that at this point in the game that you understand how the tournament works and that you stop crying about Iron Maiden not being in the tournament anymore. We have an interesting scenario this year and one is that this is the first year that Iron Maiden is not in the final four and that there will completely be a new champion when it is all said and done. This tournament has always been about one fan base versus another and if a band does not share the tournament on their Facebook page, then I cannot be held responsible for them not winning. I am not Loudwire or Metalinjection.net, I don’t have their kind of pull. I am just a guy who loves metal and tries his best to promote it when he can. Anyways, one fan base that showed up to the tournament for sure was Queensryche’s fan base as they without a doubt sent their band through to the final four by 753 votes. Megadeth’s fan base also came to bat as they destroyed Testament by 728 votes setting up a match with Queensryche. The next match featured two newcomers with something to prove as Lamb Of God took on Trivium. The match was close for the most part, but in the end Lamb Of God distanced themselves winning by 316 votes.

Pedal Is WorldwideOur last match of the Elite 8 round was the most interesting one because it was so darn close right up until the end. Tournament newcomer, Amon Amarth took on 2015 champion (who defeated Iron Maiden to win the championship) Kreator in our last match of the elite 8 round. These two bands were separated by a couple of votes for almost the whole entire round. It was quite an amazing site to see, but in the end Amon Amarth pulled off the win by only seven votes (710-703). I will be setting up the matches real soon so stay tuned. I also wanted to express how excited I was at the turn out for the tournament and where you guys are coming from because we have reached nations like Singapore, Mexico, Netherlands, Finland, Argentina, Bulgaria, Thailand, Israel, Peru, Lithuania, Taiwan, Cayman Islands, Faroe Islands, Vietnam, Macedonia, and an island named Jersey just to name a few. There were way too many nations to list, but to me that is exciting and that is what this is all about. I just hope that we can get more and more countries involved in this tournament and that Iron Maiden fans stop being so salty over this.

2017-headerAfter an awesome first round, we are looking for your help to keep the momentum going because without you guys, there is no Pedal To The Metal Tournament. You the fans have always decided the outcome of the tournament as you have crowned champion after champion. So, with that being said, we have some awesome matches for you guys to check out and we are keeping them all in the same post for now for the sweet sixteen. We strongly encourage that you vote for every match up in the tournament because this is all about supporting the metal community no matter what sub-genre it is. In the Dio/Lemmy division, Queensryche looks to keep their luck going as they take on the legend from Germany U.D.O. meanwhile Accept is looking to keep the fight alive as they take on former two time champion Judas Priest. The Hanneman divsion has some great match ups like one mega match that pins Big Four members Megadeth against Slayer. The other match is a good one as well and it features one band that brings a strong argument to the table as to why it should be the Big Five and not the Big Four in Exodus as they take on a band that brings a strong argument as to why that Big Four stuff should be expanded to more in Testament. The Schuldiner division features the defending champion Destruction take on Viking Metal Kings Amon Amarth as well as 2015 winner Kreator taking on the mighty Cannibal Corpse. The last division, the metal to the core division, features Lamb Of God taking on All That Remains while Killswitch Engage does battle with Trivium. You all have until the end of Match 21st to vote for who you want to see move on the Elite 8 round. So, vote carefully and wisely, but have a lot of fun and spread the word.

2017 Bracket sweet sixteen

There was a screw up where the Slayer/Megadeth match closed early, so we have another poll for all of you to keep voting for that one. At the end, we’ll combine both scores together. Sorry for the inconvenience

PromoImage amonThe melodic death metal crew from Tumba, Sweden, Amon Amarth who takes it’s name from the Sindarin name for Mount Doom in J.R.R. Tolkiens Middle Earth is back with their ninth studio album Deceiver Of The Gods. Johan Hegg (Vocals), Johan Söderberg (Guitar), Olavi Mikkonen (Guitar), Ted Lundström (Bass), and Fredrik Andersson (Drums) are back with an album that focuses around the half brother of the almighty Thor named Loki. Every album the band has written and recorded centers around Norse Mythology like Surtur Rising dealt with the mythical giant Surtr and With Oden On Our Side obviously dealt with Odin. When I received the advance copy, I was super excited because the last album really opened my eyes to how incredible this band really is. So, without further ado let’s check out the album.

PromoImage amon 3As you can see above, the album artwork is just out of this world and incredible. The title track is the first track on the album and what a way to kick it off. The musicianship stands out the most to me because these guys are incredible musicians. The opening riff has this real epic feel to it before the music just melts your face off and the tempo changes are amazing as well. As Loke Falls is the next track and it proves these guys are here to stay with the epic riffs before it kicks into the verse and it hits you like a machine gun. The band has this uncanny ability to mix the lightning fast playing of death metal with the melodic side of Iron Maiden. Father Of The Wolf is a track that would make Judas Priest proud to call them one of metal’s finest. Metal bands definitely need to take a cue from these guys. Shape Shifter starts off like a canon where it just explodes right into the madness with the riff lords hard at work while Hegg’s screams can be heard all the way across the world. Under Seige is the melodic death metal at it’s finest where it blazes across your speakers leaving your eardrums screaming for mercy. Halfway through the track if you don’t know who Söderberg and Mikkonen are by this point, you really need to do your homework. I hope the Revolver Golden God Awards committee is paying attention.

PromoImage amon 2Blood Eagle starts off with what sounds like a man being severely dismembered before the song kicks in and it sounds like hell is marching in with epic chants of war. We Shall Destroy is one of my favorite tracks on the record and it’s metal at it’s finest with the sledgehammer like riffs followed by the race car fast riffs. Hel is combines elements of sledge metal in the riffs and features former Candlemass singer Messiah Marcolin on the track. Coming Of The Tide reverts back to the razor sharp fast riffs the band is known for. Warriors Of The North is the last track on the album and they saved the best for last as it’s the victory song. It’s the end of the story of Loki who battles Thor for control of the kingdom. The band is relentless in their pursuit of speed in the songs from the first to the last and it’s absolutely incredible. The way they can change the tempo of the song at the stop of a dime.

As I have said all throughout the review these guys are the most incredible metal band out there today. This is definitely the album of the year in my opinion. If there is something new you need, if you need something heavier and something badass then check out Amon Amarth. These guys in my opinion is what I have been searching for in metal for a long time. The album, Deceiver Of The Gods, comes out on June 25 where ever albums are sold and I am giving this album a well deserved 5 stars out of five. Are you ready to have your mind blown? Strap on your seat belt cause your definitely going for one hellacious ride.
