R-2542972-1500984918-1755.jpegIt is Mötley Crüe week here on Moshpits and Movies where we are celebrating the release of the band’s brand new Netflix biopic The Dirt which was released this past Friday (March 22). We figured that we would cap off Mötley Crüe week by covering one of the band’s albums for the Album Of The Week post and we are giving you two albums for the price of one this week. On November 10, 1981, the band which was made up of Vince Neil (Vocals), Nikki Sixx (Bass), Mick Mars (Guitars), and Tommy Lee (Drums) would self release their debut album Too Fast For Love on their own label Leathür Records. Eventually when the band was signed to Elektra Records, the label would remix the album and re-release it in August of 1982. As far as the track lisiting and artwork is concerned, we are giving you the Leathür Records Edition of the album which features ten tracks as opposed to the nine track Elektra Records release. The original pressing of the album was limited to 900 copies to which the band quickly sold and the re-released version  eventually went Platinum while also peaking at 77 on the Billboard Top 200 charts.

MOTLEY_CRUE_TOO+FAST+FOR+LOVE+-+1ST+ISSUE+2ND+PRESSING+WINSERT+1-951b1. Live Wire– The fierce and ferocious opener kicks off the show with one of the most popular tracks that band performed throughout their careers. I think the track is about when your young you think you’re unstoppable just because what you think you bring to the table is fresh and new. 5/5

2. Public Enemy #1-an awesome track that takes a look at how amazing just being young, wild, and free is because you break all the rules and everyone wants you. The song was co-written with Nikki’s former London bandmate Lizzie Grey who is credited on the song. 5/5

3. Take Me To The Top– an amazing song that has a slight punk rock feel to it at times that is all about fighting those inner demons and temptations as you go to the top. 5/5

4. Merry-Go-Round– a slow and methodical track that apparently is about something that Nikki witnessed as a kid in Seattle when he saw a man refuse to come off a Merry Go Round and was taken away in a straitjacket. 5/5

5. Piece of Your Action– This is the last track on side A and one of two songs that Vince Neil co-wrote on the album that is the original version of Ten Seconds To Love (not really, but as far as lyrical meaning it is). 5/5

Motley Crue - Too Fast For Love (Leathur) - Back Cover6. Starry Eyes-Another amazing song that is musically in the same style as Merry-Go-Round and it’s all about a girl who you are just memorized by because she can do things no other can. The song features one of my favorite builds up to a guitar solo the band has ever done. 5/5

7. Stick to Your Guns– a very Aerosmith like swagger to the track int he beginning before the band launches into overdrive Mötley Crüe style. The track is all about doing what you think is right for you and screw what everyone else says. 5/5

8. Come on and Dance-a cool, raw hard rock classic that is all about a stripper and what this stripper can do that just hooks all the guys in. You have to love the cowbell playing that Tommy Lee includes in this song. 5/5

9. Too Fast For Love-The second best track on the record that is already amazing to begin with and that punk infused rock is awesome in this track that is all about living that rock star life. 5/5

10. On With The Show– Another amazing song and what an amazing track to end an album with. The track is song is almost autobiographical at the time for the year as it chronicles the death of Frank Feranna Jr. and the birth of Nikki Sixx. This is the second song on the album that was co-written by Vince Neil. 5/5

My Final Thoughts– Besides Shout At The Devil, this may be the greatest Mötley Crüe record ever recorded due to the fact of how hungry the band was and how raw their sound was in this track. Shout featured a more polished sound that was provided thanks to Elektra and their resources. I love every single song on this record which is why I am going to give the album 5 stars out of five for a final grade. Welcome to the five star club!!!

51qMElGc5NL._SX334_BO1,204,203,200_It is Motley Crue week here on Moshpits and Movies as we continue to celebrate the release of the new Netflix rock biopic The Dirt which is based off of one of the best selling rock autobiographies The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band that was written by Motley Crue’s Vince Neil, Mick Mars, Tommy Lee, and Nikki Sixx alongside Neil Stauss and we are covering here for Heavy Metal Book Report. The way the book works is that each member of the band gets their own chapter to tell some wild and insane stories that also features chapters from Doc McGhee and Tom Zutant as well. The book tells the wild and insane story of the one of the 1980’s most decadent and dangerous bands in the world as they take you on a true journey through sex, drugs, and good ole fashioned rock and roll Motley Crue style. You get to travel alongside the band as they describe all their triumphs alongside all the tragedies that made the band notorious all over the world. It’s a one way ticket through hell and back so you better make sure that your strapped in because it’s a journey that you’ll never forget. Hear all the stories that made the film like the story of Bullwinkle, the tragic death of Razzle and everything that happened while Vince was in jail to the night that Nikki Sixx died and came back to life and so much more.

91S8-v4yBBLFor anyone that has read this book, there is so much that I would have loved to have seen make the film, but I understand how screen writing works versus writing a novel. One of the things that is probably going to happen to you is that if you had a favorite member before, it could possible change during this book. That was one of the things that happened to me when I read this book. I was a huge Vince Neil fan growing up because I thought he was the coolest frontman ever, but after reading the book I instantly became a fan of Nikki Sixx who is the unsung hero of the band. You have to read about his journey as a kid to adult that was toned down heavily in the film because it will shock the hell out of you. There is one story that just tugs on your heart strings and it’s about a sister that he never knew he had and the tragedy behind that story will bring a tear to your eye. One of the things that made me laugh at times was how every member had plenty of pages per chapter and then there’s Mick Mars who at times wouldn’t write much. He lived up to his persona even in the book, but he has some pretty interesting info as far as his backstory is concerned. As I said before in the previous paragraph, this book takes you on one hell of a ride and you’ll feel so dirty when it’s done that you’ll need a shower (just kidding, but seriously though). This is probably my favorite rock autobiography of all time that has never been duplicated and with that being said, I am giving the book five stars out of five for a final grade.

The Dirt SingleThe film that you all have been waiting for since the rumors some years ago and the announcement during their retirement tour press conference is going to drop on Netflix this month. That’s right, I am talking about the Mötley Crüe biopic The Dirt which stars Machine Gun Kelly a.k.a. Colson Baker as Tommy Lee, Iwan Rheon as Mick Mars, Daniel Webber as Vince Neil, and Douglas Booth as Nikki Sixx. To celebrate the film, the band returned to the studio to record four tracks together which includes a cover of Madonnas Like A Virgin and the track we chose for today’s Rock Single of the Week in The Dirt (Est. 1981) featuring Machine Gun Kelly. The track at first has a very Shout At The Devil feel with the intro, but when the band comes in, it’s very Saints Of Los Angeles sounding which is cool because it’s the natural evolution of the Crüe. If you wondering what it sounds like with Machine Gun Kelly, I have to say that his part is not overwhelming as it fits the track perfectly and it doesn’t overtake it. One of the other common questions asked is how is the band getting back in the studio without wanting to reunite and tour? Nikki answered that question in an interview with Classic Rock saying, “Yeah, I miss the guys, and I miss playing with them, and playing that music, but everyone’s fairly busy with their own thing. That’s a whole conversation that we haven’t even had at that point.” He however did not deny nor confirm the rumors, but simple said, “I don’t know if we ever will.” Check out the film on Netflix and check out the single below:

deadlandAre supergroups still a thing in music? Don’t tell Matt Sorum (ex-Guns N Roses/Velvet Revolver), Steve Stevens (Billy Idol/Ex-Vince Neil), Franky Perez (Apocalyptica), and Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath) that as this dynamic and fearsome foursome introduced us to their new project Deadland Ritual which was named by Sorum himself. How did this project come together you ask? The project was started by Sorum who was looking to work with some cats, “Steve and Franky were the first guys I called. We knew we wanted to create a heavier rock sound, but when I contacted Geezer and he agreed to play, I knew this could be a great band.” Steve Stevens talked about the first time he got to work with Butler saying, “There’s a lot of times in the studio as a guitar player, you get a guitar sound and you’re trying to make it work, tweaking it. There was none of that bullshit. It just fit against his bass sound and it was really exciting to me. I get to hear my guitar against a bass guitarist that I’ve idolized forever.” The band to get fans excited released a music video for the track Down In Flames which is this week’s Rock Video Of The Week and it’s a pretty cool performance based video of the guys in the studio. The band plans on playing some gigs in 2019 as they have two festival gigs lined up and they also plan on releasing an LP as well in the future. Check out the video below:

1800256For an album and a time that was super decadent, I feel that I have to set the tone before I can review this week’s album of the week. The year is 1985 and you’re lead singer has served whatever little time that he received for killing your band’s best friend in Hanoi Rocks drummer Nicholas “Razzle” Dingley. What is your band supposed to do at this point in time when all the proverbial sh** has hit the fan? Most bands would crumble without their star lead singer behind the helm and then there are bands that would simply move on and try to find another singer to take his place. That is what 1980’s hair metal legends Mötley Crüe did when lead singer Vince Neil was arrested and charged. Nikki Sixx (bassist) took control of the situation as he started to write new material for the band’s third album Theater Of Pain and then he almost had Ratt lead singer Stephen Pearcy take Vince’s spot. Luckily for the band, that didn’t need to happen as Vince was eventually released and the album was recorded despite the tensions between the rest of the band (guitarist Mick Mars, drummer Tommy Lee) and Vince. The album was pretty successful for the band as it peaked at number six on the Billboard Top 200 as it went well on it’s way to going four times platinum.

Elektra1. City Boy Blues– The first track on the record that kicks off the new, more glam oriented style for the band as Nikki wrote the song about being a country kid now injected into the city life. 4.5/5

2. Smokin’ In The Boys Room– This is the bands cover of the Brownsville Station classic which helped put them back on the map. 5/5

3. Louder Than Hell– Originally written during the Shout At The Devil sessions and known as Hotter Than Hell originally. The song was reworked and turned into this classic about their love for Metal. This is as close as you’ll get to Shout. 5/5

4. Keep Your Eye On The Money– an interesting track that sounds like their singing about gambling, but I think it’s more about the gamble you take in life in the music business. 4.5/5

5. Home Sweet Home– The ultimate 1980’s ballads which was the ballsiest move the band did at the time because no other band had done it. A live staple that begins and ends with Tommy on Piano. It’s about life on the road and in a little side note this track is what made me fall in love with Mötley Crüe. 5/5

Motley Crue - Theatre Of Pain -ak-6. Tonight (We Need A Lover)– interesting track that is all about the backstage festivities that went on during the decadent 80’s. 4/5

7. Use It Or Lose It– An in your face track that is about life in the fast lane and how you better use it before you lose it. 4/5

8. Save Our Souls– Power chord heaven as this track opens up with a bluesy tinge to Mick’s guitar. It’s another track that explores their decadent ways and how their lucky to be alive. 4/5

9. Raise Your Hands to Rock– a track that starts with a more clean channel guitar sound at times in this anthem about never giving up on the dream of becoming a rock and roll star. 4/5

10. Fight For Your Rights– a track that is all about living your life to the fullest no matter what laws or what people have to say. 4/5

My Final Thoughts– I always thought highly of this album even back in 1985 when my brother would play it for me. After all it contains the quintessential ballad of the 80’s which is also my favorite track on the album. Sure, Mötley Crüe did what any band would do and that is they got better with every release. My least favorite track on the album is actually Raise Your Hands To Rock. I am giving the album 4.4 stars out of five for a final grade.

180623013401-vinnie-paul-pantera-super-teaseI am still not quite sure what words I need to say to express the utter shock that the rock/metal world and I are in after the news broke of the passing of Former Pantera/Damageplan/Heallyeah drummer Vinnie Paul. At first, I had to do a search online to find out if this was one of those fake articles that are always posted on Facebook when it says a celebrity has died. CNN, the new site confirmed for me that Vinnie Paul born Vincent Paul Abbott died at the age of 54 years old. We still at this time do not know what the cause of death is, but what we do know is that he is finally reunited with his brother Dimebag Darrell. Vinnie along with his brother Dimebag were the co-founders of the groove metal band Pantera who dominated the metal scene with the release of Cowboys From Hell in 1990 and they continued to dominate with albums like Vulgar Display Of Power and Far Beyond Driven until the band broke up in 2002. They went on to start a new band in Damageplan releasing their only album in 2004 entitled New Found Power and toured with the act until the death of his brother in December of 2004.

getty638images-115361519jpgVinnie had taken some time off from the music scene releasing the home video collection Dimevision, Vol. 1 in 2006 as well as a never before heard collaboration album with Country music legend David Allen Coe entitled Rebel Meets Rebel. He didn’t get back in the studio until 2007 when he officially became a member of the supergroup Hellyeah which featured Chad Gray and Greg Tribbett of Mudvayne, Tom Maxwell of Nothingface, and Damageplan bassist Bob Zilla to record the self titled debut album. Together the band would release five albums with the latest Unden!able coming out in 2016. It is said that Vinnie has laid down drum tracks for an upcoming album, but it is not known yet what will become of that album as of this time. The band however has released a statement with Tom Maxwell saying, “Just so broken hearted and in shock. I’m struggling to write this but we want to thank you all for your kind words and support in this tragic time. We don’t have much info to give you other then Vinnie is now with Dime and they are together in a better place. Sadness, shock, confusion, anger, despair. We feel it all together. Hug your loved ones and keep them close. Thank you all again for all your love. Vinnie will be and is greatly loved and missed but his music will live forever. Crank it loud today and scream to the heavens so he can hear you.” Fellow musicians and other celebrities have come out to pay tribute to one of the greatest drummers of the modern era. There is a lot more tributes online and on Twitter, but the ones below are just some of them. R.I.P. Vinnie Paul (1964-2018)

SweetDesolationBoulevardOriginalIn about eight days, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 will be hitting the theaters for a Thursday sneak peak. One of the most appealing elements of the series is the soundtrack that accompanies the film and Vol. 2 looks to be just as amazing as the first. The soundtrack will feature artists like Fleetwood Mac, Electric Light Orchestra, Glenn Campbell, Sam Cooke, George Harrison, and so many more. One of the artists on the soundtrack is none other than UK glam rock legends Sweet whose track Fox On The Run is featured on the soundtrack. In 1975, the band which was made up of Brian Connolly (Lead Vocals), Steve Priest (Bass), Andy Scott (Guitars), Mick Tucker (Drums) released their third album Desolation Boulevard whose American version (that we are covering) is a little different than the UK version. The album was successful for the group as it featured two top five hits in Fox On The Run and Ballroom Blitz (which technically was released in 1973). Andy Scott spoke of the band and the album’s influence saying, “Desolation Boulevard album was groundbreaking back in 1974 and proved to be a major influence on soon to be famous rock bands such as KISS, MÖTLEY CRÜE, DEF LEPPARD and many more. The album was a tightly produced collection of power-pop, heavy-rock, radio-friendly tunes that still sound great today.”

MI00026135571.Ballroom Blitz– One of the most recognizable and covered tracks from the band which was actually about an experience the band once had when the crowd started throwing beer bottles at them. 5/5

2. The Six Teens– A cool rock track that features some acoustic guitar mixed with the electric about six teens who had to deal with the social climate changes from the 60’s to the 70’s. 4/5

3. No You Don’t– a bombastic track that just screams swagger right from the start and it has that thunder to it like a Who track. The track seems to be about someone who is being held back by someone and he feels he’s ready to shine. 4/5

4. A.C.D.C.– A real rock and roll track that I am pretty sure is not about the band AC/DC, but rather about a woman who is bi-sexual. 4/5

5. I Wanna Be Committed– A true glam rock song that reminds me of T-Rex about someone who wants to be committed versus the Ramones wanting to be sedated (obviously this was out before that). 4/5

Desolation-Boulevard-3-picture6. Sweet F.A.– In in your face rock track that is all about the band striking back at critics that said that the band would never make it. It has a great sound to it that you can definitely hear who was influenced by this song. 5/5

7. Fox On The Run– Probably the most popular Sweet track ever recorded that recently went to number one on iTunes thanks to the trailer for Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2. The track apparently is about groupies that the band had encountered. 5/5

8. Set Me Free– A hard driving track that turns up the machismo that has been covered by countless artists like Vince Neil on his solo record. It’s a track about a guy who is trying to be free from a woman that keeps hanging around. 5/5

9. Into The Night– A New York Groove like beginning before Scott comes in shredding along about a guy who felt like a king, but is noticing that he is quickly falling. 4/5

10. Solid Gold Brass– A kind of funky and bluesy track at the same time that has that rock swagger to it and the tempo changes are cool. I think the track is about a guy who believes he is in firm control of a relationship because he is a man and not your mother. 4/5

My Final Thoughts– This is a terrific album that definitely shows you how influential of a band they were on a whole entire decade. Yes, they were a huge inspiration for all of the bands you  loved from the 1980’s Hair Metal/rock scene. Definitely give this one a listen if you get a chance. I am going to give the album 4.4 stars out of five for a final grade.

sharknado-4It seems to be a tradition every year now on the SYFY channel when a Sharknado movie comes around and it seems to be something we cover for Cheeseball Cinema too. It’s also been a while since the last time we covered a Cheeseball Cinema film so to get us back in the swing of things, we decided to watch Sharknado 4: The 4TH Awakens. To get you up to speed, it has been five years since the last Sharknado attacks and Finn (Ian Ziering) has been living the quite life with his mother (Cheryl Tiegs) and his son Gill (Chris and Nicholas Stone), but no April (Tara Reid). Finn believes that she has passed away after being in a coma for four years, but is surprised to see her when a new Sharknado of sorts decides to touch down in Las Vegas. As it morphs into all different kinds of Tornados (sandnado, bouldernado, Lavanado, etc.) Finn has to try and save his family before it’s too late. The film stars David Hasselhoff (Baywatch) as Col. Gilbert Shepard, Cody Linley (Hoot) as Matt Shepard, Ryan Newman (Monster House) as Claudia Shepard, and Masiela Lusha (George Lopez) as Gemini. The film of course features tons of cameos from the likes of Corey Taylor, Seth Rollins, Gary Busey, Dr. Drew, Wayne Newton, Vince Neil, Carrot Top, Tommy Davidson, Caroline Williams, Dan Yeager, Dog The Bounty Hunter, Steve Guttenberg, and so many more.

sharkando-2This continues to be some of the cheesiest crap that is thrown on TV, but you know what they have are a ton of fun doing it. It has become quite the phenomenon when you try to figure out what insane stunts are they going to pull or who in the hell is going to make a cameo in this film. The material also just gets cheesier and cheesier as the series rolls on with April being put back together, but she can now remove her hand and use the force to summon a lightsaber out of it. Oh yeah, there’s also the fact that they pay homage in this film not only to Star Wars with references, but they also do it with Christine, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and even the Wizard Of Oz. There’s also the fact that this Sharknado changes forms every time it runs into something and they get a tiny bit creative with it. Some of the dramatic attempts for scenes is just too corny and laughable. As I said before though, they look like they are having a ton of fun with it and it is fun to watch as well. The film when it concludes, it sets up the very next film in the series and I will definitely look forward to that. So, if you like over the top action, over achieving on your acting, and just some cheesy wholesome family fun then look no further because Sharknado is here to make your day. On a scale of one being close to an A-List Hollywood film and five being the cheesiest film of all time, I would have to give this film an 4.5 for a final grade.

nic and vince“We’re told Nic and Vince were inside when a woman came up to Nic and asked for an autograph. Our sources say Vince allegedly got behind the woman, grabbed her by the hair and pulled her to the ground. The video we got shows the end of a fight between Vince and Nic. Our sources tell us Nic was trying to restrain Vince and calm him down, taking him outside the hotel and into a car. Nic is screaming at Vince, imploring him to calm down.” That is what TMZ is reporting right now about an altercation between cult film actor Nicolas Cage and former Motley Crue singer Vince Neil. They are reporting that the incident took place according to police around 5PM Las Vegas time yesterday (April 7). In the video that TMZ posted you can see Nic physically restrain Vince and he’s yelling at him saying, “Stop this s–t now!” TMZ also reported, “Cops tell us Vince was cited for battery and never taken to the station.” To check out the full video that was caught on camera, check it out here. We can see that Vince has been keeping himself busy sine the end of Motley Crue, but it remains to be see what happens next. So stay tuned here for more information as it becomes available to us.

1313We already know that Nikki Sixx is back with Sixx: A.M. after the end of Motley Crue and we already know that Vince is planning to go solo. What we do not know is what the remaining members of the Crue are up to. Well, last night I discovered just what Mick Mars has been up to lately since the band played their last show on New Years Eve. Mick has released a teaser trailer for a new project that I believe is called 1313. The project features Mick on guitar and John Corabi, the former replacement singer of Motley Crue (he replaced Vince Neil in 1992) on vocals. They tease a new track called Gimme Blood and it sounds amazing. It sounds almost like the music he created with the Crue with the self titled album and let’s be honest because that was an amazing record in it’s own right. The music sounds amazing and I am waiting to hear more information about the project. So, check out the teaser below and as soon as I find out more information I will let you guys know.

unnamedI have a couple of pieces of Lemmy Kilmister news for all you Motorhead faithful out there. A bronze statue is going to be erected in Hollywood outside the Rainbow in honor the late legend. A Youcaring crowdfunding campaign was started and the goal was to raise $21,000 with artist Travis Moore not charging a single fee for it and to date they have raised the money. If you still want to donate to the cause, you can do so by going here. The next piece of the news is according to the House Of Hair, “Lemmy will once again have an iconic action figure available for purchase.  Originally released in 2008 as the first piece in LocoApe’s ongoing Icon Figure series, the six-inch tall figure will be reissued in July. There are four different figures – each version will have a different Rickenbacker replica bass guitar (featuring real strings!), a microphone a stand and a base.

In more Lemmy related news, Alice Cooper was asked about the tribute his supergroup The Hollywood Vampires (Johnny Depp, Joe Perry, and Alice Cooper) were doing in honor of Lemmy at The Grammys. He said, “We started this band as a means to toast our ‘dead drunk friends’ at the Rainbow, all the ghosts in the bar, and now I guess Lemmy is involved in that, too. He was always funny,” he continues. “I’m a ‘healed’ alcoholic and I haven’t had anything to drink in 35 years. A lot of people that drink always feel a little bit like they owe an explanation to me. A couple weeks before his death, Lemmy came up to me and said, ‘Alice, I’ve quit drinking.’ And he’s got a glass in his hand. And I go, ‘Really?’ And he says, ‘Yeah, I don’t drink whiskey anymore. I drink vodka.’ And I went, ‘Lemmy, do you think your liver has any idea what color the alcohol is?’ He said, well it’s a step down from whiskey.’ And I went, ‘OK. Any step’s a good step.”

skid rowThis next piece of news, I do not know what to think of it because I think enough is enough. I obviously do not know the full story as to why Skid Row hasn’t reunited with Sebastian Bach, but I think they need to bury the hatchet and get back together. Anyways, the band may have a brand new lead singer or at least that is what people believe when they showed up to the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut. The band showed up with former Dragonforce singer ZP Theart singing a whole entire set including the classics like I Remember You, 18 & Life, and even Youth Gone Wild. To check out his version of I Remember You, just click here. While I believe that he is a good singer, I just do not feel that he is a perfect fit for a band like Skid Row. Johnny Solinger was a better fit for the band because he had a ferocity to his vocals. It remains to be seen what comes of this, but I will keep you posted.

mayhem2014-8733We covered Asking Alexandria with one of our posts a week or two ago, but nothing has come up with former singer Danny Worsnop. Now we have some exciting news to share with all of you as Danny reveals the first of four album covers for his solo record The Prozac Sessions. Here is what he posted, “Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, album cover A. Every piece of artwork was so perfect that I have decided to use them all, which means there will be four versions of the album, all with different visuals. I am thinking of writing a couple more songs so that each version will have a different bonus track.

I’m in Nashville now to talk to labels and find a home for what I’ve created. Stay tuned for more news and updates. See you on the other side!” Check out the first of four album covers below:
