a3The 70’s was definitely a weird time for just about everything or at least it seems that way. So, here comes the sequel to the first ever x-rated animated film ever Fritz The Cat called The Nine Lives Of Fritz The Cat which is an R-rated film. In this sequel, Fritz is getting sick and tired of his old lady screaming at him about getting a job that he lights up a joint and escapes into a world where he imagines what life would have been like if it was different. The features the voices of Skip Hinnant (The Patty Duke Show) as Fritz The Cat, Reva Rose (House Calls) as Fritz’s wife, Louisa Moritz (The Last American Virgin) as Chita, Bob Holt (Gremlins) as many voices, Peter Leeds (Dragnet) as Juan, and Robert Ridgley (Boogie Nights) as The Devil.

a2I have to say that the movie is interesting and a little hard to follow at times. I was totally expecting something else before I watched it. I said a little hard to follow only because how do you tell when Fritz is imagining a new life. Usually his lives are like flashbacks expect for some of them. The racial line in this film is explored to it’s limits where Fritz is a cat which makes him white apparently. In the New Africa segment, black people are represented by Crows and there’s even one life where he is having sex with a black reporter as he tells her there’s something he wants to give back. The animation isn’t top notch, but I bet it was for 1974, but I do like some of the things they do with the overall picture. There’s lots of trippy imagery in the film especially during the dream where he works with Hitler and the time he envisions himself in the 1930’s. On a scale of 1 to 5 with one being close to an A-list Hollywood film and 5 being the cheesiest film of all time, I give this one a 3.8
