Two years ago instead of doing the pedal to the metal tournament which was emulating the NCAA basketball tournament, I decided to change it and call it the Pedal Cup. For the first year, we did the world cup edition of the competition and that was won by Japan and Babymetal. That year, we tried our best to get as many bands from different countries as we could and while it sometimes can prove difficult to do, we also plan to do the same for the European edition of the Pedal Cup for this year which will coincide with the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament. Returning to this year’s tournament are the third and fourth place finishers from the World Cup edition in Portugal and Poland and they will be joined by Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, Spain, England, Ukraine, Holland, Austria, Denmark, and so many more celebrating the best in Death Metal, Black Metal, Heavy Metal, and more. So stay tuned here for more info as the bands will be chosen and all of the countries competing will be revealed.

Pedal Cup Finals: The Results

The dust has finally cleared and we have a clear cut winner by a mile and there is nothing controversial about the win. BABYMETAL won the match fair and square with the power of their fan base. I’ve seen this happen over the years during the Pedal To The Metal Tournaments when the fan bases of Kreator, Destruction, and Queensryche all led them to be winners. I post a link of the tournament to every single band’s page giving everyone a equal shot at winning and they did just that beating Behemoth 334 to 80. I gave everyone three options on how to vote and the fan base killed it and showed up in style for sure. It was definitely one heck of a win for the Japanese Kawaii Metal band, but that wasn’t the only match you could vote on. We also had the third place match that saw the final four runner ups Moonspell take on Morbid Angel. Moonspell jumped out to an early lead and believe me they never looked back earning them a third place finish. It’s sad that this is over for now and it won’t be until 2022 until we do another one, but we have the Euros coming up in two years so we’ll see you there. Once again, Congratulations to BABYMETAL!

That is right metal heads, the finals of the first ever Pedal Cup (the World Cup of Metal) is here and this is the moment you have been voting for. You the fans, took two bands in Behemoth (Poland) and BABYMETAL (Japan) and you voted them all the way to the finals and it was quite the run for both bands. Unfortunately, only one of them will walk away from the tournament as the first ever Pedal Cup champion. We also have the third place match which is traditionally played in the FIFA World Cup and we are going to keep that tradition as Portugals’ Moonspell take son US Death Metal legends Morbid Angel for the right to Bronze. Today, we are also revealing the Pedal Cup trophy which we dedicated and designed some specifics of it to honor the legacy of one of music and Metal’s greatest inspirations in the late Motorhead Frontman/bassist Lemmy Kilmister. There is a Spade from the Ace Of Spades on the top of the trophy along with a coin of Lemmy on the bottom and the Pedal To The Metal logo beneath that. As always, there are three ways to vote with one being on the Facebook page, the other on Twitter, and the last way to vote right here on this blog. You have 24 Hours to decide who is the first ever Pedal Cup Champion and the third place band. Good luck!!!!
Pedal Cup: Semifinals Results

What a semifinals that we just had and while it didn’t set records as compared to some numbers from the Pedal To The Metal March Madness Tournament, it definitely set Pedal Cup records considering this is the first tournament. The most talked about match was the one between Japan’s BABYMETAL who had been blazing a path through the tournament taking on surprise semifinalist Moonspell of Portugal. Moonspell for the most part had been leading the match for maybe half of it until BABYMETAL’s fans showed up when it counted and took the match decisively. The other semifinal match featured two titans of their respective sub-genre’s of Metal in Poland’s Behemoth and Florida’s own Morbid Angel. Behemoth took the early decisive lead and just never looked back on their way to victory. Now, Behemoth has a tough task on hand as they challenge BABYMETAL for the first ever Pedal Cup crown, but with fan voting it’s anyone’s ball game. Also in the third place match, Moonspell will take on Morbid Angel because that is traditionally what the World Cup does. Check out he box scores below:

Here is the moment you have all been waiting for, it is the semifinals of the Pedal Cup in case you didn’t know is the World Cup of Metal. You guys came to play in the knockout stage, once again in the quarterfinals, and I want to thank every single one of you guys for that because without you none of this is possible. Now we have some interesting matches moving forward as the final four was set last night. We have Moonspell (Portugal), BABYMETAL (Japan), Morbid Angel (USA), and Behemoth (Poland) all eyeing to be the world champions of Metal. Moonspell has done pretty well for themselves as they easily defeated Egypt’s Crescent before holding the edge against Dimmu Borgir in the Quarterfinals. Now, they are tasked with trying to defeat the band who has recorded the most amount of votes in the tourney in Japan’s BABYMETAL. BABYMETAL scored a record amount of votes in their first match against Belgium’s Leng Tch’e (44 votes total) before surviving one heck of a match against Brazil’s own Sepultura (34 votes combined). The other match features two powerhouses of their respective subgenres. In one corner, you have Death Metal legends Morbid Angel who is the only band to record two straight shut out wins going against Blackened Death Metal act Behemoth who took care of business against Cradle Of Filth and Arch Enemy. It’s anyone’s ball game, but remember you guys have 24 HRS to vote, so vote for the bands you love and have some fun with it. As always, there are three ways to vote with one being on the Facebook page, the other on Twitter, and the last way to vote right here on this blog.

I just wanted to take the time once again to thank everyone who has gotten involved in the voting process because without you this is not possible. The Pedal Cup which is our metal version of the World Cup has had some surprising results since the first round and the quarterfinals went without a hitch. As usual, we gave you three ways to cast a vote in the tourney with one being the Facebook page, the second being my Twitter page, and the third being right here on the blog site. One of the matches that took advantage of most of the ways I gave you was the BABYMETAL vs Sepultura match and what a weird outcome it turned out to be as all BABYMETAL needed was the Twitter count to win. Morbid Angel’s win was the most lopsided of the tournament as Confess was the only band that failed to gain a vote. The semifinals are now set, but you’ll have to wait until later to be able to participate and vote for the two teams that will move on tot he championship. Check out the box scores down below:

Here is the moment you have all been waiting for, it is the quarterfinals of the Pedal Cup which is the World Cup of Metal. You guys came to play in the knockout stage and I want to thank every single one of you guys for that because without you none of this is possible. Now we have some interesting matches moving forward like Morbid Angel (rep. USA) taking on Confess (of Iran) and while our cultures may be different from each other, there is one thing they have in common and that is they live and breath metal. Literally they do because Confess are in Jail for playing “Satanic music” and there is nothing more metal than that. Arch Enemy (Rep. Sweden) look to repeat the same success they had in the previous round, but they have one heck of a challenge ahead of them in Behemoth (rep. Poland). The legends of Brazil in Sepultura are going to need all the votes they can get when they take on BABYMETAL who scored the highest amount of votes in the last round. Last, but certainly not least Portugal’s own Moonspell face a heavy task as they take on Norwegian legends Dimmu Borgir in what should be one heck of a clash. You guys have 24 HRS to vote so vote for the bands you love and have some fun with it. As always, there are three ways to vote with one being on the Facebook page, the other on Twitter, and the last way to vote right here on this blog.
Pedal Cup: First Round Results
Posted: July 11, 2018 in TournamentTags: 2018 FIFA World Cup, 2018 Pedal Cup, Arch Enemy, BabyMetal, Behemoth, Belgium, Brazil, Catharsis, Confess, Cradle Of Filth, Crescent, Denmark, Dimmu Borgir, Egypt, England, France, Germany, Gojira, Iran, Japan, Kreator, Leng Tch'e, March Madness, Moonspell, Morbid Angel, Norway, Pedal Cup, Pedal To The Metal, Pedal To The Metal Tournament, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Samael, Sepultura, Sweden, Switzerland, Tournament, United States, World Cup
The results of the first round of the knockout stage of the Pedal Cup are here and if you still don’t know what this is, it’s our equivalent of the FIFA World Cup, but for Metal. We had some great matches in the first round with some surprise results. Normally in every tournament with Kreator as a competitor, the fans usually come in droves causing everyone in the world to cry foul, but this time around they have been bounced out of the cup like their fellow countrymen. The fans of Japan’s own BABYMETAL showed up for sure giving us the biggest vote count of the tournament so far. Now to figure out who won what match, we broke it down and you’ll see in the box score that we tallied the votes from this site, Facebook, and Twitter and totaled them up to give you the final result sort of like A+B+C= D. Check out the results below and stay tuned for the next round.
Pedal Cup: First Round: Phase Two
Posted: July 10, 2018 in TournamentTags: 2018 FIFA World Cup, 2018 Pedal Cup, Arch Enemy, Behemoth, Catharsis, Confess, Cradle Of Filth, Death Metal, Denmark, England, Extreme Metal, Hatesphere, Heavy Metal, Iran, March Madness, Metal, Morbid Angel, Pedal Cup, Pedal To The Metal, Pedal To The Metal Tournament, Poland, Poll, Polls, Russia, Samael, Sweden, Switzerland, Tournament, United States, USA, Vote, Voting, World Cup
I am happy and thankful for all the people that showed up to vote for the first half of the bracket and as promised, we now have the second half of the bracket. There were some interesting matches in that first bracket, but I think there are some equally interesting matches on this side of the bracket with the focus on Iran vs Russia. Its interesting because on one side you have the Russian powerhouse in Catharsis who have been cutting their teeth in the business since 1996 taking on Iran’s own Confess who were arrested in their own country for writing “Satanic Material” as well as speaking to foreign radio stations. The band at one time faced the possibility of execution, but now they could just face strict penalties and punishment. We just wanted to show our support to fellow metal musicians and wish them luck in both life and in this tournament. This side of the bracket also boasts matches like England (rep. by Cradle Of Filth) taking on Poland (rep. by Behemoth), United States (rep. by Morbid Angel) taking on Denmark (rep. by Hatesphere), and Sweden (rep. by Arch Enemy) vs Switzerland (rep. by Samael). As I said yesterday, you have several options as far as ways to vote in this tournament with one by visiting the Facebook page and the second by visiting my twitter page @Themonsterhour. Now you can go ahead and do it that way or you can also vote here, but you only have 24 hours to do so. So support your favorite metal bands and let the best bands win.
