Ass Whoopin Wednesdays: Central Intelligence (2016)

It has been a little over a month since the last time we did an Ass Whoopin Wednesdays post so we didn’t want to waste anymore time. For this week’s Ass Whoopin Wednesdays film, we decided to do a tag team thing with the film Central Intelligence which stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (Pain & Gain) and Kevin Hart (Ride Along). For Calvin “The Golden Jet” Joyner (Hart), it looked like the sky was the limit when it came to his life in high school and that he could do anything. 20 years later, he is an accountant at a small company and he’s very unhappy with where he is at. One day, he gets a friend request from someone known as Bob Stone (Johnson) who ends up being a kid that was bullied when they were in high school together. Stone comes and he uses Joyner for his accounting skills to catch someone known as The Black Badger, but who does Joyner trust? Bob Stone or the CIA? The film also stars Amy Ryan (Escape Plan) as Agent Harris, Danielle Nicolet (The Flash) as Maggie, Jason Bateman (Juno) as Trevor, Aaron Paul (Triple 9) as Phil, Tim Griffin (American Sniper) as Agent Mitchell, Thomas Kretschmann (King Kong) as The Buyer, and the film was directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber (We’re The Millers). Before we get into the review of the film, let’s check out some stats:

Alright so as we get into the stats, we have to tell you about both of them. We’ll start with The Rock first as he recorded about 19 1/2 kills/knockouts in the film. The only thing we know about his origin story is what happened in the beginning of the film. He does end up having a love interest and I was shocked to see who it was. Kevin Hart is put in constant danger with Dwayne having to bail him out constantly and the big boss is defeated. Kevin is always going to have small stats (no pun intended) when it comes to action comedies. He only has 2 1/2 kills/knockouts and his origin story is the same as The Rock’s. He double crosses The Rock a couple of times and then goes to his rescue so that answers that question. I actually have to give it up to these two because the film was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. The only complaint that I really had about the film was the beginning shot of Robbie Weirdicht (Bob Stone). It looks like they tried to super impose The Rock’ face into the fat kid or that they used that Snapchat Faceswap feature. It looked that bad in my opinion. The film has plenty of action, but the comedic moments are not always the funniest. It does however have it’s moments when it can be funny, but that can happen with Kevin Hart films. I did like the two as a duo on screen and hope that we can see more of it in the future. The 80’s pop culture references were a little weird at first, but very cool in the end and I loved the Melissa McCarthy cameo in the film. As a final grade, I am going to give the film  3.9 fists out of five for a final grade.
