Halloween6ProducersCutCoverIf you are a true fan of the Halloween franchise then you must have picked up the deluxe edition box set of Halloween with every single film ever made plus some goodies. The film I chose for this years edition of Eddie’s 31 Days Of Halloween caught my attention because I wanted to see how different Halloween 6: The Curse Of Michael Myers- The Producer’s Cut was going to be from the original version that was released in the theaters and on DVD. It had been six years since Haddonfield had last seen it’s most psychotic and famous resident in Michael Myers (George P. Wilbur).  It had also been six years since anyone had seen his niece Jamie Lloyd (played by J.C. Brandy in this film) so everyone assumed they were dead until they re-emerged in Haddonfield the night before Halloween. For Kara Strode (Marianne Hagan), she was just trying to re-adjust to life back home in the old Myers house with her son Danny when Michael decides to make some house calls as he attempted to finish what he started years before. The film also stars the late Donald Pleasence (Halloween) as Dr. Loomis, Paul Rudd in his first role as Tommy Doyle, Mitchell Ryan (Lethal Weapon) as Dr. Terrence Wynn, Keith Bogart (One Life To Live) as Tim, Mariah O’Brien (The Mod Squad) as Beth, and the film was directed by Joe Chappelle (Chicago Fire).

h6 new transferThere are a lot of differences in the producer’s cut version than what everyone watched on DVD or the theaters back in the 90’s. This is a spoiler alert, if you do not want to know what happens in this version than stop reading the article now. In the original film, Jamie gives birth and she immediately dies in the opening sequence leaving Tommy to find the baby. In the producer’s cut, we see a lot more dialogue and the sequences of events change and Jamie doesn’t die. There are a lot of other creepy elements to this version like the fact that the baby’s father is Michael Myers which was just weird and the fact that a cult controls Michael Myers. The end sequences are completely different between both versions of the film and I have to say that I enjoyed the theatrical cut a lot more. You’ll have to watch the Producer’s cut to find out what I am talking about, but the ending just wasn’t to my liking. In the bonus features of the DVD, Malek Akkad explains that the producer’s cut was actually the original finished product that they went and did screen testings with, but the studio that had bought the rights ultimately changed the film and the rest is history as they say. Some if the dialogues and sequences are a little longer, but for the most part it was enjoyable. I am going to give this version of the film a B- for a final grade cause it was slightly better than C+.
