movie 43 cheeseball cinemaFor a very long time, I had wanted to see the film Movie 43 which is an ode to anthology comedy films like The Kentucky Fried Movie which had previously reviewed for Cheeseball Cinema and so I figured why not today. Dennis Quaid (Dreamscape) plays Charles Wessler, a man who is looking to pitch his movie ideas to a studio head named Griffin (Greg Kinnear). He starts to tell him some of his stories, but Griffin feels their too offensive and wants to kick him out. So, Charles holds him at gunpoint and he continues to pitch ideas like the iBabe which is basically a naked hot girl who also happens to be an ipod, Robin (Justin Long) tries speed dating, but Batman (Jason Sudeikis) is always there to bust his balls, a man (Chris Pratt) gets a proposition from his girlfriend (Anna Faris) which involves crapping on her, a girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) unfortunately gets her first period while on a date in front of a bunch of moron guys, a game of truth or dare that goes terribly the wrong way, and a girl(Kate Winslet) who finds out her blind date (Hugh Jackman) has balls on his chin. The film also stars Emma Stone (Birdman), Common (Run All Night), Seth MacFarlane (Ted), Richard Gere (Pretty Woman), Halle Berry (Losing Isiah), Naomi Watts (The Ring), Liev Schreiber (Defiance), J.B. Smooth (The Sitter), Kieran Culkin (Home Alone 2), Kate Bosworth (Still Alice),  Jack McBrayer (Wreck It Ralph), Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars), Katrina Bowden (Tucker & Dale Vs Evil), Johnny Knoxville (Bad Grandpa), Sean William Scott (American Pie), Gerard Butler (Law Abiding Citizen), and the film features segments directed by people like Elizabeth Banks, James Duffy, Brett Ratner, James Gunn, Peter Farrelly, and many more.

Cathy CliftenThis film is actually pretty brilliant even though a lot of its segments are absolutely absurd like homeschooled which is just creepy at times. One of my favorite segments and by far the bets one on there is definitely the truth or dare game. Once they start daring each other and they go to war on it, they have some of the funniest segments and bits in it and we have Peter Farrelly to thank for that one. There is plenty of T&A in this film thanks to both iBabe segments that are included in the film and my second favorite segment would be the super hero speed dating which you can pretty much figure out who did that out of the ones I named above. The film has a lot of star power in it which may have been the attractive side of the film that sold everyone, but they actually work and a lot off them truly are funny. I definitely recommend this film for anyone who is fan of such films like this and too bad there weren’t too many of these around. Well, If you’re a horror fan then you’ll definitely enjoy the ABC’s Of Death franchise because they do that with 26 directors. Nevertheless, it’s kind of a waste that it’s here, but we’ve gone this far, now it’s time to grade it. On a scale of one being close to an A-List Hollywood film and five being the cheesiest film of all time, I am going to give this film a 1.2 for a final grade. Check it out on Netflix right now!

220px-Fantastic_Four_posterI figured since 20TH Century Fox had announced the abomination of what they planned to do with The Fantastic Four franchise, I figured I would review the 2005 film that was directed by Tim Story (Ride Along). Dr. Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd) a.k.a Mister Fantastic believes that evolution was triggered by clouds of cosmic energy some millions of years ago and he now believes that the same kind of clouds will be travelling past earth. With his best friend and astronaut Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis) a.k.a. The Thing, they will convince Dr. Victor Von Doom (Julian McMahon), who is a jealous former contemporary of Reed’s at MIT. to let them use his facilities to conduct the experiment. Von Doom who is filled with greed, agrees to allow them to do it as long as he gets the profits. So, along with Grimm and Richards, they are joined by Von Doom’s chief genetics researcher Susan Storm (Jessica Alba) a.k.a The invisible Woman and her over the top brother Johnny Storm (Chris Evans) a.k.a The Human Torch. The only thing is the experiment goes wrong and every one gains superpowers, but while Reed tries to figure out a way to get everyone back to normal, Dr. Doom is going to use his for his own personal greed. So, the Fantastic Four have to put their differences away and band together to stop Dr. Doom before it’s too late. The film also stars Kerry Washington (Django Unchained) as Alicia Masters, Laurie Holden (The Mist) as Debbie, and Hamish Linklater (42) as Leonard.

f4-sue_largeLet’s look at some things when we talk about this film, the budget for the film was $100 Million and they made $330.6 million which means that the film was a success for the company. The actors they chose were amazing especially for the fact that I always thought that Michael Chiklis was a great choice for The Thing like Hugh Jackman was a great choice for Wolverine. Even though the film was negatively received by critics, I actually really liked this film even though they did the same thing of changing where Dr. Doom was from. The film had all the melodrama you could possibly want even though it wasn’t a knockout like some of the films Marvel is making today. The special effects were also pretty good, but the acting was terrific. Who knew that Chris Evans was going to get a second crack at Marvel when he chose to be Captain America. I’ll probably check out the new Fantastic Four film like I did with Fox’s Amazing Spider-Man reboot, but it just doesn’t sound that good. I am going to give this film a B+ for a final grade because it’s definitely worth checking out.

X-Men_Days_of_Future_Past_posterThis is something new that we re going to try and attempt to do for boring Sundays and it’s called Super Sunday. On Super Sunday, we will review a different superhero film no matter if it’s attached to DC Comics or Marvel Comics or maybe it’s one outside of the system like The Watchman. For the first Super Sunday post, I wanted to start off with the latest film in the ever expanding X-Men series entitled X-Men: Days Of Future Past which sees our favorite team of mutants in the greatest battle of their lives. In this film, all mutants backs are against the wall thanks to the Sentinels, robots that were created to eradicate the world of all mutants. The only problem is that the Sentinels are eliminating humans as well as mutants and the X-Men along with Magneto (Ian McKellen) are desperate for a solution. Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) has the ability to send mutants back in time and so the X-Men send Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) back in time to stop an event in hopes that it will desperately change the future. The film stars James McAvoy (Trance) as Xavier, Michael Fassbender (Inglorious Basterds) as Erik, Jennifer Lawrence (American Hustle) as Raven/Mystique, Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies) as Hank/Beast, Peter Dinklage (Game Of Thrones) as Dr. Trask, Daniel Cudmore (Twilight Saga: New Moon) as Colossus, Patrick Stewart (Star Trek: The Next Generation) as Professor Xavier, Josh Helman (Jack Reacher) as Major Bill Stryker, and the film featured the return of Bryan Singer as the director.

maxresdefaultThere are no other words that I can think of to best describe how I felt about this film other than the fact that I thought it was awesome and epic. This is definitely one of my favorite films in the whole entire series because it has everything you would want from one of these films from the drama, suspense, and a crap ton of action that is non stop. It was definitely weird seeing a lot of the characters die in the film multiple times because you would like to think they are invincible, but quite sadly their not. It was also cool to see them mix the old with the new when old Xavier confronts young Xavier in hopes to get hi to change his mind since he was a lost soul in the 1970’s. The cinematography in the film is amazing and of course the CGI is up to par in the film as well as the acting is as superb as it always is within the series. The writing for the film is what is truly amazing because they were able to create a monster story and everything worked and it was executed superbly. Maybe, we can credit the return of Bryan Singer as the reason for all of that or maybe it’s a combination of all the elements involved in the making of the film. What we now know is that Fox is gearing up to prepare us for X-Men: Apocalypse which is the next film before they give the rights back to Marvel, I can see why Marvel wants all their films back from the major companies, but Fox has done a pretty good job so far with the X-Men. I am going to give the film an A- for a final grade because it was a step back in the right direction for Fox and Marvel.
