obituaryOne of the biggest false conceptions about music videos is that it always has to be a video of the band performing their track live in a concert setting or in a dark and scary area. That is why it is always cool to see a band do something completely different than what other bands are doing because after all you want to emphasize what you are singing about in your track through visuals. That is exactly what legendary death metal act Obituary did for their track Violence which is off of their current record Inked In Blood and it’s our music video of the week. The band went all out creating an animated video that is very fun and gory at the same time as the video was directed by Hungarian animator Balász Gróf. The video is hilarious as the band goes through different situations in their van as they set off for their tour. The band deals with zombies, Godzilla, and driving through areas as they try to get to their show on time at the Hard Club. Check out the video below and check out the band’s Facebook page for more stuff like tour info, etc.

jobA couple of weeks ago, I congratulated Obituary for hitting number 75 on the Billboard Top 200 charts on the debut week of their new release Inked In Blood. Now, we are going to congratulate Deathcore giants Job For A Cowboy for cracking the Top 200 when their fourth album Sun Eater made it to number 91 on The Billboard Top 200 charts. It seems as if Metal is starting to regain some lost ground and it makes me very happy to hear that. One magazine called Decibel had this to say about it after they conceded, “Fuck it, I can admit when I’m wrong… Turns out that, while I was busy pointedly not paying attention to them, these deathcore progenitors actually became a pretty damn good band.” After giving the album 4.5 stars out of five, Alternative Press said that, “they’ve become a full-on progressive death metal band…the songs have progressive sweep and epic power, at times recalling Opeth’s heavier work…Sun Eater is one of 2014’s best metal albums, period.” With all this going around, I am going to have to check out the record considering I loved some of the other Deathcore records that have come out this year from Whitechapel and Suicide Silence. But for right now, I just want to  say congratulations to Job For A Cowboy and let’s see if we can keep this going for real metal that will come out in the future. Check out Sun of Nihility below:

12 Jacket (Gatefold - Two Pocket) [GD30OB2-N]It’s not really rare when a commercial metal or rock band breaks the top 100 of the billboard charts, but for a true metal band with no commercial radio play, it’s a huge thing. Death Metal legends Obituary released their latest offering Inked In Blood back on October 27TH and the album has debuted at number 75 on the Billboard Top 100 which is the band’s highest charted album to date. The band also sold five times as many records as their last album 2009’s Darkest Day and this album was their debut release for Relapse Records. The band commented on the success saying “We could not be more excited about the first week of sales and Inked In Blood‘s chart position. We knew this was a monster record that the fans were dying to get their hands on, and everybody seems to really be digging it. Now it’s time to put the hammer down and focus on the second week of sales. We knew Obituary fans were some of the most devoted fans on the planet and we are looking forward to watching as they help us blow this thing out of the water.” To celebrate the success, the band will be hard at work touring through North American and Europe fro the rest of 2014 and 2015. So, I want to personally congratulate the band that is already three decades in, this is a huge accomplishment for Death Metal and the band. Here are the tour dates for North America:
