75602762_10157591626738213_1068101045881667584_oI usually do not like to deal in speculation especially when reporting on News because until it’s proven true then it’s just an opinion. So, I have some speculation news that could be huge for the rock and metal world. Nine hours or so ago, Lizzy Borden posted a picture (to the left of this paragraph) with no caption listing them as the fourth band on a bill that already features Motley Crue, Def Leppard, and Poison. The bill is already stacked with some top talent that adding Lizzy Borden to the bill would just be absolutely maniacal and would be sure to conjure up some competition for sure as to who ruled the bill. Then around the same amount of time, the band would post this next picture below asking if their fans would be intrigued to see the show if it actually happened.

So as far as we know, nothing is set in stone or concrete as to whether this is just wishful thinking on part of Lizzy Borden or if there is any actual truth to this. I have not seen any other rock or metal news sites post anything on this yet, but if I do see anything be sure that we will post the news, but there is one question that remains. Would you want to see Lizzy Borden added to this bill?

stp case closedI have done many of these when Metal bands fight posts and usually there has never been any resolved circumstances except for maybe one. One instance that definitely closes out a case is none other than death because one side can not obviously fight back in their case. I am going to take the time now to close out some of our cases that have been left out there in When Metal Bands Fight: Case Closed. The first one that was closed was the case of Scott Weiland vs the members of Stone Temple Pilots. I first reported on the case back in April of 2015. Unfortunately on December 3, 2015, Scott Weiland passed away without ever resolving any of the issues. The band has since moved on with a new vocalist in Jeff Gutt and a brand new album as well. The next case that was closed was the only one to actually be resolved and that is the case of Axl Rose vs Slash which saw the duo reunite along with Duff McKagan for the Not in This Lifetime Tour that was a record breaker in 2016. The band has since gone strong since then, but I feel people are thinking that it’s about time for Axl to finally stop messing around and reunite the two remaining members of the band (Izzy Stradlin and Steven Adler).

pantera case closedSome cases are just cases of people opening their mouths and nothing ever comes of it ever again until something else happens between the two. For instance, N.W.A. has already been inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame and there is nothing that Gene Simmons can do about it. The Mayhem Fest is officially dead and all Kerry King may have done is just predicted the ending of it especially now that he doesn’t have to deal with Kevin Lyman anymore. The one case that was never going to be resolved regardless of who lived is the case of Vinnie Paul vs Phil Anselmo which is really a sad case that breaks a lot of hearts. Vinnie Paul recently passed away which is what prompts me to say case closed. I was supposed to come out with a second part to it, but I just didn’t have the time. In an interview that Ultimate Classic Rock posted, Vinnie comments on what could be considered the reason it would never be resolved saying, “He’s done a lot of things that tarnish the image of what Pantera was back then, and what it stood for and what it was all about. And it’s sad. But I carry on with what I do, which is Hellyeah – which I’m very, very proud of. And, you know, I can’t control anything that goes on with that dude. I mean, honestly, I haven’t spoken to him since 2000. We tried to make amends of things when we were doing Damageplan, and he didn’t want anything to do with it. And then the horrible thing that happened to my brother happened. And, to me, that was the nail in the coffin. Period”

sabb_ozzy-1_2jpg copyIf I was a betting man I would say that was evidence enough that it would have never happened anyways. One case that could potentially become a case closed is one that involves the case of Black Sabbath (Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, and Geezer Butler) vs Bill Ward. Apparently, Birmingham, England is going to be hosting the 2022 Commonwealth Games and according to Loudwire there are parties that could be interested in reuniting for a one off gig. Ozzy Osbourne told ITV that he loved the idea and that he would perform, “with Black Sabbath or on my own.” Tony Iommi apparently loved the idea and told the Birmingham Mail, “I think that it would be a great thing to do to help represent Birmingham. I’m up for it! Let’s see what happens!” The only question that really remains is whether Bill ward will join the gang for the one off gig for a proper send off the original Godfathers of Metal. It remains to be seen and if there is any news of it then we will deliver it to you.

180623013401-vinnie-paul-pantera-super-teaseI am still not quite sure what words I need to say to express the utter shock that the rock/metal world and I are in after the news broke of the passing of Former Pantera/Damageplan/Heallyeah drummer Vinnie Paul. At first, I had to do a search online to find out if this was one of those fake articles that are always posted on Facebook when it says a celebrity has died. CNN, the new site confirmed for me that Vinnie Paul born Vincent Paul Abbott died at the age of 54 years old. We still at this time do not know what the cause of death is, but what we do know is that he is finally reunited with his brother Dimebag Darrell. Vinnie along with his brother Dimebag were the co-founders of the groove metal band Pantera who dominated the metal scene with the release of Cowboys From Hell in 1990 and they continued to dominate with albums like Vulgar Display Of Power and Far Beyond Driven until the band broke up in 2002. They went on to start a new band in Damageplan releasing their only album in 2004 entitled New Found Power and toured with the act until the death of his brother in December of 2004.

getty638images-115361519jpgVinnie had taken some time off from the music scene releasing the home video collection Dimevision, Vol. 1 in 2006 as well as a never before heard collaboration album with Country music legend David Allen Coe entitled Rebel Meets Rebel. He didn’t get back in the studio until 2007 when he officially became a member of the supergroup Hellyeah which featured Chad Gray and Greg Tribbett of Mudvayne, Tom Maxwell of Nothingface, and Damageplan bassist Bob Zilla to record the self titled debut album. Together the band would release five albums with the latest Unden!able coming out in 2016. It is said that Vinnie has laid down drum tracks for an upcoming album, but it is not known yet what will become of that album as of this time. The band however has released a statement with Tom Maxwell saying, “Just so broken hearted and in shock. I’m struggling to write this but we want to thank you all for your kind words and support in this tragic time. We don’t have much info to give you other then Vinnie is now with Dime and they are together in a better place. Sadness, shock, confusion, anger, despair. We feel it all together. Hug your loved ones and keep them close. Thank you all again for all your love. Vinnie will be and is greatly loved and missed but his music will live forever. Crank it loud today and scream to the heavens so he can hear you.” Fellow musicians and other celebrities have come out to pay tribute to one of the greatest drummers of the modern era. There is a lot more tributes online and on Twitter, but the ones below are just some of them. R.I.P. Vinnie Paul (1964-2018)

ghost vs nameless ghoulsOne of the things we have learned over the years is that being in a band is a very difficult thing to do. We have learned that being in a band is like being in a committed relationship with your bandmates and we have learned from bands like Kiss, Motley Crue, Skid Row, White Zombie, Guns N Roses, Black Sabbath, and so many other countless bands that sometimes divorces happen and those can get pretty ugly pretty damn often. A little more than year ago, a nasty break up was definitely the case when came to Swedish rock/metal act Ghost after four Nameless Ghouls came out and revealed some information to the world. The Nameless Ghouls came out and revealed their names and claimed that the frontman of Ghost Papa Emeritus a.k.a. Tobias Forge had screwed them out of money. Simon Söderberg (Alpha, Guitars), Mauro Rubino (Air, Keyboards), Henrik Palm (Ether, Guitars), and Martin Hjertstedt (Earth, Drums) all filed a lawsuit for compensation that basically totals $22,000. If you look below, you will see a full statement that Söderberg posted on Facebook airing out all of his grievances.

75071_0_wide_ver1527249826.jpg@642Of course, Tobias Forge didn’t stay quite for a very long time and he basically responded saying that Ghost was a solo project and that when the band was formed that, “none of the plaintiffs were present at the time.” He basically says that they were paid a price like hired guns that was fixed and that he is basically the mastermind of the band having created the image and music. If you want to read the full response to the lawsuit you can do so by clicking on article one and two. In a recent interview with the Pittsburgh Gazette, Tobias told Scott Mervis, “There was a string of events that led up to that, of course. As any individual in some tandem with other individuals, there are times when you need to break up and times when you have to get divorced, and do a spring cleaning. That itself is not different than any other band or any other social circle. Of course, it’s never a joyous experience, but it was something that needed to be done. We’d come to a point where we’d exhausted …I’d done everything in my power to try to accommodate a few of my friends to enjoy this ride that I had taken them on, but the project and myself had just come to a point where I couldn’t make them happy, whichever way I chose to go. It was only met with resentment and complaints and general obtuseness, and at the end of the day you had to come to a point where, “Well, you guys don’t even need to be there. You’re free to go. I need to survive. I need to do my thing. This is my thing. None of you were here from the beginning and you have no responsibilities except to be on stage at 8 o’clock and you’re getting paid.” What you heard it just a culmination of years, years, of complaints and ungratefulness, let’s put it that way.”

papa-tobias-768x506One of the things that bothered me the most as a fan of the band was the fact that his identity was revealed. I thought it was a very cool mystique to have as people continually tried to figure out whether it was Tobias Forge behind the mask. Tobias doesn’t seem to be sour about it tell Blabbermouth, “I haven’t felt very anonymous for many years. I don’t feel very bummed by that. I can feel bummed about the reasons why it was revealed. [Laughs] But, it didn’t do much harm. I don’t feel, in any way, like a loser here and it didn’t seem to do a lot of harm. No, especially with a little bit of hindsight and couth. It’s fine. I feel good. It’s going well. I’m out here working. I made a record. [Laughs] You know, it’s always alarming, obviously, when you have people, and some of them used to be close to you, working diligently to destroy your life. That’s always a bummer. That sucks. Sometimes that happens in all parts of the world: at workplaces, in schools, in families, in relationships and friendships. There’s nothing new about it; it’s perfectly natural. It’s a sad avenue to ride down on, but it’s a part of life and it’s fine.” He also added to the convo about who he will choose in the future saying, “You should hire people because of their abilities and not proximity. You usually learn the hard way, unfortunately. I learned that. [Laughs] So, lesson learned! It’s all good. I’m never, ever going to do that again.”

GhostOf course, the band responded to the claims of Ghost being a solo act saying on Reddit, “Forge has certainly been the band’s main songwriter, has had the role of cinematic front figure ‘Papa Emeritus,’ has been a driving force in the band’s business, as well as in the handling of the band’s business affairs. However, the activities carried out with respect to Ghost were extensively handled jointly by the members – for example, by making decisions jointly regarding the band’s image, by participating in interviews, and by the fact that every member has, at certain times, contributed when recording albums and singles, and by touring together almost continuously since 2011.” They went on to add, “To the contrary, Tobias Forge always emphasized that it was a collaboration that everyone was involved in, and would share in the profit of, once the business became profitable. The first time Tobias Forge, through the band’s management, mentioned that he saw them as hired musicians rather than full-fledged members of Ghost was in the context of a contract proposal presented in April 2016.” One thing is for certain and that is I agree 100% with Tobias and this statement regarding the lawsuit, “I took it almost as an acknowledgment that I must be doing something right. If things were going down the fucking tubes, no one would care.” Think about it, if Ghost was on their way out, none of these guys would have cared as much about it. It remains to be seen what happens next, but stay tuned for more because Justice will be served!

tim-lambesis-1Back in 2013, I extensively covered the strange, but true case of one Tim Lambesis for another blog that I owned at one time. It was the most shocking case of 2013 because no one had seen this coming not even fans of his metalcore band As I Lay Dying. As I Lay Dying were one of a few metalcore bands that I respected in those times, but I haven’t listened to a single track since then. You see Tim was accused of conspiring to have his estranged wife Meaghan murdered by a hitman. He was sentenced to a six year sentence, but was released on parole in 2016 after serving three years. There was a lof mystery surrounding the frontman as to what his plans were going to be now that he was out of jail. Some rumors were going around suggesting that he was going to be bringing back As I Lay Dying, but with all new band members and as of June 1ST, that looks to be a true statement. The band released a 30 second teaser video on it’s Facebook page that showcases some new music. The only problem is that you can not tell who is on vocals, but we can only assume that it is Tim Lambesis. The question moving forward is how many people are willing to give the singer a second chance and how many will actually check out the band’s new music? How do his old band mates feel about the new music coming out as well?

Sc%C3%A8ne-Molson-Canadian-Stage-Slipknot-2So there was some pretty scary news delivered recently regarding one of the hottest metal bands in the land Slipknot. Slipknot was supposed to start their big summer tour with Marilyn Manson on June 9TH, but apparently that isn’t going to happen at least not by that time. Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has to undergo unplanned spinal surgery. The frontman released a statement explaining, “Regretfully, I’m sending this to our fans to inform you that we will be postponing the first couple of weeks of our upcoming U.S tour. Unfortunately, I had to undergo an unplanned spinal surgery. I am recovering nicely, and all went well! I need a little recovery time before hitting the stage. We will start the summer tour in Nashville on 6/28 and continue as previously scheduled. An update on the rescheduled dates will be available in the next few days. I hope you all understand and thanks for always having my back! Thank you, Corey.” Touring isn’t easy and the physical demands of a Slipknot tour must be high. 2016 Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival - Weekend 1 - Day 2

This next piece of news certainly affects me considering that I have tickets to one of the shows on the Not In This Lifetime Guns N Roses tour. Apparently Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots has barred Guns N Roses from playing past curfew. While Guns N Roses have had a tendency of showing up on stage late in the past, Foxboro selectwoman Ginny Coppola has put her foot down making the curfew 11:15PM and it’s because of “noise issues” according to her. She stated in an interview with The Sun Chronicle, “This is on a Tuesday and a Wednesday. If this was a weekend, I wouldn’t have a problem with it. But it’s a work night. This isn’t going to be an acoustic evening. It’s going to be loud.” Apparently Gillette Stadium management tried to push for a 11:40 and even an 11:30 curfew, but those were shot down in flames. I’m not completely surprised by this decision because the curfew at the Xfinity Center which is literally the next town over from Foxboro’s curfew is 11PM and I personally do not want to be at the stadium all night long.

Muhammad-AliIn non music related news, legendary boxing champion Muhammad Ali has passed away at the age of 74. Muhammad Ali was an icon in and out of the boxing ring whether it was beating men in the ring or beating the US government for what he believed in, he was a champion. A lot of rockers expressed their feelings over the death of Muhammad Ali like Dave Mustaine who wrote on Twitter, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of one of my biggest heroes, the greatest, Muhammad Ali.” There are a lot more that expressed their thoughts and you can check them out by visiting Loudwire here. R.I.P. Muhammad Ali “Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee.”

machinehead-800x450Do not adjust the brightness on your screen because you have read the title of the article correctly. Robb Flynn of Machine Head has called out all Racists that he used to call his brothers in a brand new song. Machine Head unleashed a new track with SiriusXM called Is There Anybody Out There. In the track, there is a certain line in the song that leads you to believe that he is calling out a certain someone. “Now I stand as a father, to men with no honor, Ashamed of the racists I used to call brothers.” That certain someone that he could be talking about could be ex-Pantera/current Down frontman Phil Anselmo. Earlier in the year during the Dimebash, Phil made some remarks and gestures during the show that really pissed off the Machine Head frontman (you can read all about it here). Although I have to say that I am not entirely shocked that they decided to write and record a song that would call him out if I am being perfectly honest. Robb has always spoken his mind and I commend him for it because few in the industry have the balls to do it. I also want to add to the conversation and say that the song is pretty bad ass too. One of the things I love about the song that I love is that he adds that rapping element to the verses which could also be an FU to Phil Anselmo after Phil had told him he hated the rap era of Machine Head’s career. I wish I could share it here with all of you, but unfortunately it’s on the Sirius website, so click here to listen to the new track.

bw-Nick-MenzaI have said it time and time again that 2016 has been one hell of a bad year if you are a fan of metal or rock music. We have lost everyone from Lemmy Kilmister (the end of Dec 2015), David Bowie, Glenn Frey, Prince, and now we have lost former Megadeth drummer Nick Menza at the age of 51 yesterday in Los Angeles. Apparently, Nick was onstage last night at The Baked Potato in Studio City with his band OHM when he collapsed after just the third song of the set and authorities have not yet commented on the cause of death at this time. Nick was best known for his nine years that he spent in Megadeth for what I felt was an iconic lineup that also featured Marty Friedman. The band recorded some of it’s most iconic albums in Rust In Peace, Countdown To Extinction, Youthanasia, and Cryptic Writings (which would end up being his swan song from the band). Most of the classic tracks you hear live are Nick Menza Megadeth tracks because that is how iconic that line up was. After Megadeth, he had been in several bands like Orphaned To Hatred, Deltanaut, and OHM which featured former original Megadeth guitar player Chris Poland.

nickmenzasolo2014_638Marty Friedman took to Facebook to comment saying, “We all know the great and unique drummer that Nick Menza was, but he was also a trustworthy friend, a hilarious bandmate, as well as a very loving dad. I`m beyond sad, did not see this coming at all. RIP Brother.” Dave Mustaine also commented on Twitter saying, “TELL ME THIS ISN’T TRUE! I woke at 4 AM to hear Nick Menza passed away on 5/21 playing his drums w/Ohm at the Baked Potato. .” OHM commented on Facebook as well saying, “RIP Nick Menza. In the brief time I knew you, it was a pleasure. We will miss you “Machine”.” It is sad to hear, but in one way at least he passed doing what he loved to do and that is playing the drums. R.I.P. Nick Menza (July 23, 1964-May 21, 2016)

Pasted-image-at-2016_05_12-04_56-PMThere was some very big news that was announced yesterday (May 12) and I have it here for you guys. Since it was kind of hinted that there would be no more Mayhem Fest after last years debacle, the summers were kind of left with nothing leaving metal fan asking the question of what was going to take over? Earlier in the week, it was announced that Corey Taylor (Slipknot/Stone Sour) and Ozzy Osbourne had an announcement to make. I immediately thought that it was either going to be about Ozzfest or Knotfest, I never thought that it would actually be about both. Apparently, they are calling it Ozzfest Meets Knotfest and it’s happening on a weekend in September in San Bernardino, CA. Ozzfest happens on September 24 while Knotfest happens on September 25 at the  San Manuel Amphitheater with some real heavy hitters. Ozzfest features bands like Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Black Label Society, Disturbed, Hatebreed, Goatwhore, and many more. Knotfest features heavyweights like Slipknot and Slayer co-headlining while it also features Amon Amarth, Anthrax, Overkill, Sabaton, Death Angel, and many more. Tickets go on sale May 20TH and for more information on the fest, please go here. I’m going to insert a little bit of my opinion here and say that while it’s cool that this is happening, it doesn’t help anyone that doesn’t live in California. If a metal fan can’t afford to fly out to California to see this then he is left with nothing for the summer. I’m just saying that I hope either one of these becomes a travelling festival next year. Here are the full lineups below:

Ozzfest: Sept. 24

Black Sabbath
Disturbed
Megadeth
Opeth
Black Label Society
Rival Sons
Children of Bodom
Hatebreed
Devildriver
Huntress
Goatwhore
Dead Cross

Kataklysm
Nails
The Shrine
Still Rebel

Knotfest: Sept. 25

Slipknot
Slayer
Amon Amarth
Anthrax
Trivium
Sabaton
Suicide Silence
Overkill
Emmure
Butcher Babies
Man With a Mission
Whitechapel
Combichrist
Death Angel

MisfitsAdmatRevThe next piece of news that I have is something you should be really excited for especially if you are either a fan of horror punk or Glenn Danzig in general. For the first time since 1983, the original lineup of The Misfits is going to reunite for a couple of gigs. That is right, Glenn Danzig, Jerry Only, and Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein on the same stage at Riot Fest Denver and Chicago. We all know that Doyle has on occasion go on stage with Glenn and so the real issue was between Jerry Only and Glenn. Jerry Only once said this in an interview, “What I feel is that, I’d rather be where I am and be happy and be a positive influence than to be the richest man in the world and miserable and be a scumbag to the kids that follow us. I’m not doing that. I told Doyle that. I told him, ‘Hey look, if Glenn wants to come be a team player and leave that s–t at home, we’re good.’ That’s the name of the game.” I would have loved to be in the room when those two met, but they obviously have broke some ground considering the band is back for a couple of gigs. Tickets for Riot Fest are available as we speak and you can get them by going here.

13151558_10154142704378866_6527274700022246028_nI have to be honest and say that I was going to lose my lid if the rumors about Scott Stapp, the former Creed singer, joining Stone Temple Pilots. That in my opinion was going to be the worst possible news ever, but it turns out the rumors were wrong about him joining STP, but he is joining a band that had ties with Scott Weiland. Scott Stapp announced via a statement that he was joining Art Of Anarchy which Scott was in for a very short time. Here is his statement:

I wanted to clarify any confusions on Stone Temple Pilots and my comment. First off, Scott Weiland in STP is irreplaceable. I was recently asked what I’m currently working on in an interview and could not reveal details or announce this new project. This led the interviewer to assume it was STP and he eagerly kept asking for more details. Evidently my response caused confusion.
I’m excited to share I’ve been working with Art Of Anarchy band who’s members are Ron “Bumble Foot” Thal, formerly of Guns N Roses, John Moyer of Disturbed and Jon and Vince Votta. Original announcement was slated for July along with our first single and album to follow but happy to share this announcement sooner to clarify.
Art Of Anarchy is the project that I was referring to in the interview not STP. Scott Weiland was a part of Art of Anarchy and that’s the six degrees of separation I was referring to. Always been a fan of STP and I wish them all the best in their search for a new singer.
Allow me to introduce Art Of Anarchy. Stay tuned.

Scott Weiland recorded vocals for the only release that Art Of Anarchy has to date, but when it came time to tour, he proclaimed that he was not the singer for the band and that he wouldn’t record with them. So, having no lead singer was the perfect opportunity for Stapp to join the band considering all the members of Creed are busy with other projects.

Liv-SinSince we are on the topic of people announcing new projects or joining bands, I have some news regarding former Sister Sin vocalist Liv Jagrell. Swedish rock outfit Sister Sin announced that they were no longer going to be a band toward the end of last year which left Liv Jagrell with nothing to do. Well have no fear because she has just announced that she is going to continue her career under the name Liv Sin. For me it has never been an option to stop singing. I live for the stage and for my fans. I still miss Sister Sin, but I am very excited to work on my own project, and I can promise it will not be some soft pop rock. This is going to be metal deluxe, because that’s who I am!” which is what Jagrell said in an interview. In a statement on Facebook, she said, “So guys, here is some news for you, I’m not leaving you. I have a management who believes in me, musicians that I’m making songs with and now I just have to find a label to support me. Stay tuned and have patience! (That goes for me too haha).” Stay tuned here for more info as it becomes available.

1The end of 2015 into where we are now in 2016 has been a very rough year for the music and entertainment world as we mourn the loss of so many greats. One of those greats that we lost was the great Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead. That was one of the toughest losses we suffered so far (besides Bowie), but we have something coming out to help us remember him. On June 10TH, UDR is releasing a Live CD/DVD entitled Clean Your Clock which is a live performance recorded back in November during the band’s performance in Munich. The album features classics like Orgasmatron, Overkill, Ace Of Spades, and Bomber which you can actually check out here. According to Loudwire.com, here are some of the different formats it’s available in, “The disc will be available in numerous configurations including a standalone CD, DVD with CD, Blu-ray with CD and colored double vinyl in gatefold with pop-up art. In addition, there will be a box set containing the aforementioned vinyl, DVD, audio CD and Motorhead metal medal along with a limited edition box set with the option of a silver or gold medal and digital download.”

downloadFans of classic rock groups like The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Roger Waters, and The Who have something to drool over as The Desert Trip was officially announced. Now you may be asking what in the hell is The Desert Trip and what do these acts have to do with that. Well, The Desert Trip is a three day festival that is taking place at the same place as Coachella (Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA) and each of the three nights only features two performers. The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan headline Friday while Paul McCartney and Neil Young are Saturday while Roger Waters and The Who close out the festival on Sunday.
