22 jump streetI know what you’re thinking and it’s what did you choose for this week’s Ass Whoopin Wednesday film. The only response I can give you for choosing 22 Jump Street is that I love the film and sometimes you have to think outside the box.  In the sequel, Jonah Hill (Superbad) and Channing Tatum (Magic Mike) return as Schmidt and Jenko, but this time things are very different for the dynamic duo. The guys can’t get accustomed to being regular cops so they are put on another mission for Jump Street, but this time they are going to college. There is a drug going around MC State called WYFY and the guys have to infiltrate and find the supplier before it spreads. The film also stars Ice Cube (Boyz N The Hood) as Captain Dickson, Peter Stormare (Pain & Gain) as Ghost, Wyatt Russell (Cowboys & Aliens) as Zook, Amber Stevens West (The Amazing Spider-Man) as Maya, Jillian Bell (The Night Before) as Mercedes, Nick Offerman (Parks And Recreation) as Deputy Chief Hardy, Jimmy Tatro (Grown Ups 2) as Rooster, Craig Roberts (Neighbors) as Spencer, Marc Evan Jackson (Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen) as Dr. Murphy, and the film was directed by Phil Lord (The LEGO Movie) and Christopher Miller (21 Jump Street). Before we get into the review of the film, lets check out the stats:

22This is one of my favorite action/comedies of 2014 and it won the Monster Entertainment Award for Comedy Of The Year last year. I’ve been into doing tag teams as far as stats are concerned because tag teams are a lot more fun. We are going to start with Channing Tatum who is the action guy of the two with a flair of comedy as he garnered up nine kills/knockouts in the film. I am going to answer this next one for the both of them so I don’t have to repeat myself, but if you want an origin story then check out 21 Jump Street (or just wait for me to blog about it later). Channing has no love interest in the film, but he has to juggle two bromances. I am also going to answer these next two for the both of them in saying that the only one that gets hurt is the captain when he’s shot in the foot and the bog boss is defeated (it’s pretty epic). Now as far as Jonah Hill’s stats are concerned, he only has 1 1/3 kills/knockouts and that is because one of them he his helped by both Ice Cube and Amber Stevens West. Unlike Tatum, Hill’s character has a love interest and someone other than Tatum is really pissed about the fact that there was a sexual conquest. This was one of the best sequels released in a very long time and I have always said if you’re going to do one then do it right. I love the little things that they throw in that people usually won’t pick up like Benjamin Hill School Of Film (Benny Hill) and other things as well. There is action in the film when it’s needed and plenty of laughs when needed so check it out. I am going to give the film four and the half fists out of five for final grade.

maxresdefaultI thought that prequels were a thing of the 21ST Century as a desperation move for Hollywood to try and generate more money, but little did I know that they did it back in the 1980’s. That is where our film for this week’s Ass Whoopin Wednesdays comes in to play as we present Missing In Action 2: The Beginning. The film once again stars Chuck Norris as Colonel Braddock, but this time the film follows the story from the beginning instead of where it took place in the first film. Colonel Braddock and his men were on a mission over Vietnam when their helicopter was shot down by the Vietcong forcing them to jump out before it crashed. The men were then taken hostage and held in a POW camp well after the war had finished. The only problem is that Colonel Yin ( Soon-Tek Oh) won’t let them go until he can get Braddock to admit to committing war crimes against Vietnam. Now it’s up to Braddock to try and figure something out before all of his men that are left are killed by Yin and his men. The film also stars Professor Toru Tanaka (The Running Man) as Lao, Steven Williams (21 Jump Street) as Captain Nester, Bennett Ohta (The Golden Child) as Captain Ho, Cosie Costa (Remy Williams: The Adventure Begins) as Mazilli, Joe Michael Terry (Cannery Row) as Opelka, John Wesley (Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot) as Frankie, David Chung (Repo Man) as Dou Chou, Christopher Cary (Watchers) as Emerson, Dean Raphael Ferrandini (Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom) as Kirtle, and the film was directed by Lance Hool (Steel Dawn). Now let’s check out some stats before we get into the review of the film.

15-1This is obviously our second Chuck Norris film that we’ve done for Ass Whoopin Wednesdays and it’s personally one of my favorite film series that he was involved with. AMC was showing this on TV today and I couldn’t resist watching the film and hence the reason why I chose it for today. For the origin story, I explained that the whole film is the origin story because it’s telling you how they got to Vietnam and why he chose to go back in the first film. He has a total of 24 kills/knockouts and his love interest is back home in the states. Who knows if Colonel Yin was telling the truth about her moving on or not, but he burnt the letter that she sent him. All of his friends in the film which are soldiers are essentially hurt and put in constant danger by the evil and sadistic Colonel Yin. I do want to say that Soon-Tek Oh does just as amazing a job in this film as Chuck Norris did. The two of them are sort of a perfect balance of the ying and yang, good and evil let’s just say. There is not a heck of a lot of action for most of the film, but when it starts up you can be sure that Chuck Norris is opening up the can of whoop ass for sure. I am going to give the film 3.8 fists out of five for a final grade.

american hamOnce again Netflix, the online streaming service is nailing it once again with another brand new stand up special from a special comedian. Who is Nick Offerman? He is an incredible comedic actor best known for shows like Parks & Recreation and films like We’re The Millers, 21 Jump Street, and other great films. Now Nick who also moonlights as a wood cutter is back with an all new stand up special called Nick Offerman: American Ham. Nick delivers 10 lessons to be live by in life and he gives valuable lessons in between all the different steps. He talks about everything in this special from how the Bible or religion should really be used to benefit everyone, but he will also talk about how ridiculous some of it can be. He’ll offer you advice on love as well as how to live your life when it comes to food and why a hanky is so important to have.

nickThis is definitely a different type of comedy special then what I have been presenting because Nick Offerman’s comedy is special. He is able to take life matters and he makes them funny. One of the cool things too is that he’ll pick up his guitar and he’ll sing some of the most hilarious songs. Nick Offerman offers everyone in attendance at The Town Hall Theater in New York and all of us on Netflix, some real male bravado that is funny. My favorite lesson he gives is how society should interpret the Bible, but not to take literally. You have to be able to separate church from state which is one of the lessons he gives because society probably would be better. One of the other cool elements are the videos that you get in between all of the lessons. One of the songs he performs was removed from the special due to legal issues so he makes a video arguing with a lawyer to basically tell you to go on Youtube to find the song. If you need some funny and important lessons then check this out on Netflix. I am going to give the special an A for final grade.
