2017 final fourI am hoping that at this point in the game that you understand how the tournament works and that you stop crying about Iron Maiden not being in the tournament anymore. We have an interesting scenario this year and one is that this is the first year that Iron Maiden is not in the final four and that there will completely be a new champion when it is all said and done. This tournament has always been about one fan base versus another and if a band does not share the tournament on their Facebook page, then I cannot be held responsible for them not winning. I am not Loudwire or Metalinjection.net, I don’t have their kind of pull. I am just a guy who loves metal and tries his best to promote it when he can. Anyways, one fan base that showed up to the tournament for sure was Queensryche’s fan base as they without a doubt sent their band through to the final four by 753 votes. Megadeth’s fan base also came to bat as they destroyed Testament by 728 votes setting up a match with Queensryche. The next match featured two newcomers with something to prove as Lamb Of God took on Trivium. The match was close for the most part, but in the end Lamb Of God distanced themselves winning by 316 votes.

Pedal Is WorldwideOur last match of the Elite 8 round was the most interesting one because it was so darn close right up until the end. Tournament newcomer, Amon Amarth took on 2015 champion (who defeated Iron Maiden to win the championship) Kreator in our last match of the elite 8 round. These two bands were separated by a couple of votes for almost the whole entire round. It was quite an amazing site to see, but in the end Amon Amarth pulled off the win by only seven votes (710-703). I will be setting up the matches real soon so stay tuned. I also wanted to express how excited I was at the turn out for the tournament and where you guys are coming from because we have reached nations like Singapore, Mexico, Netherlands, Finland, Argentina, Bulgaria, Thailand, Israel, Peru, Lithuania, Taiwan, Cayman Islands, Faroe Islands, Vietnam, Macedonia, and an island named Jersey just to name a few. There were way too many nations to list, but to me that is exciting and that is what this is all about. I just hope that we can get more and more countries involved in this tournament and that Iron Maiden fans stop being so salty over this.

2017-headerWe can never have a tournament without a little controversy and in reality there is no real controversy. The tournament has always been about a fan base of one band versus the fan base of another. So, if your band was eliminated two rounds ago then sorry for that, but a lot of my favorite bands have been eliminated too. Anyways, we are here to celebrate the fact that if you made it this far it’s because your fan base kicks ass and you belong here. We have some exciting matches for all of you like Queensryche taking on Judas Priest or Amon Amarth taking on German Thrash legends Kreator. We also have Lamb Of God taking on Trivium and Testament taking on Megadeth in a super match for the Thrash division finals. After this, it only gets harder to choose a winner and that will ring especially true in the Dio division finals where Queensryche has to dethrone former two time champion Judas Priest. Does Testament have what it takes to dethrone Megadeth who have been riding the rollercoaster of success lately with a Grammy win and all? All of these questions will be answered as soon as YOU THE FANS VOTE! You have until March 24TH to vote for who you want to see make the final four, so as always choose wisely!

2017 elite 8 round

pedalWell, now it’s down to this and the Elite 8 round of the 2016 Pedal To The Metal Tournament has come to a close. It has been a really interesting tournament so far as who you would expect to win hasn’t and sometimes the battles are lopsided. We have seen some upsets in the tourney, but that is what makes these things interesting. In the Dio division final, Iron Maiden was looking to make the final four for the second year in a row while newcomer Primal Fear was looking to continue their streak. Unfortunately, some dreams come to an end and Iron Maiden pulled off a lopsided victory beating Primal Fear 160 to 50. In the Lemmy Kilmister division final, Avenged Sevenfold and Ghost were looking to continue making waves as both bands took out some giants along the way to this match. Unfortunately for Avenged Sevenfold, the road ends here as Ghost easily took them down 110 to 61. In the Jeff Hanneman division, we had a pretty tight race as Testament and Megadeth were both looking for a shot at the final four. Testament ultimately came out in the end big winners as they beat Megadeth 114 to 99.

The Final FourI saved the best match for last because this one was exciting. In the Chuck Schuldiner division, we had the defending champions Kreator take on fellow Big Teutonic Four member Destruction in a match where the lead changed every day. When I first followed this match, Destruction had a pretty comfortable lead over Kreator, but it quickly changed the next day. All of a sudden, Kreator had the comfortable lead over Destruction and with a day left to vote it looked like they increased their chances to defend the title successfully. That is until I checked the results today and Destruction was back in the lead. In fact, Destruction has eliminated the defending champion Kreator 186 to 153. So, you’re final four round is set and ready to go. Testament will be taking on Destruction while Iron Maiden does battle with Ghost.

I’ve decided to combine all of the divisional finals into one post so it’s a one stop shop for all you fans out there. This is when things really get serious as all eight bands are looking to make the final four and eventually the championship. Who will make it? Well, it’s up to you the fans to decide who gets to move on and who doesn’t. For the Chuck Schuldiner divisional final, we have the defending champions Kreator in an epic match up with fellow Big Teutonic Four member Destruction. In the Jeff Hanneman divisional final, Megadeth is looking to make their first final four appearance, but they’ll have to deal with Testament who is also looking to make the final for the first time as well. In the Lemmy Kilmister division, we have two bands looking to make an impact on their first try. I am talking about Ghost who has slayed some pretty big giants along the way, but so hasn’t their opponent in Avenged Sevenfold. In the Dio divisional final, Iron Maiden is looking to get back to the championship once again, but they have to deal with upstart Primal Fear int he battle of old school vs new school of Power Metal. This is the match I am looking forward to seeing the most on the road to the championship. Again, it is up to all of you to decide the fates of these bands by voting. You have until April 27TH to vote for your favorite band.

It’s come down to this as we are down to the elite 8 in our march madness style tourney, the 2015 Pedal To The Metal Tournament. What you are looking at is the Thrash Metal divisional finals where the winner will meet the winner of the Extreme Metal Divisional final in the final four round. This is definitely one of my favorite finals matches that pins two of my favorite members of the Thrash Metal genre in Slayer and Testament and I’ll be interested to see how this one turns out. These were two bands that were not going to be denied while on the road to this point. Testament started the tournament eliminating one member of the Big Four in Anthrax and then they proceeded to crush Death Angel who also pulled off a huge upset in the tournament. Slayer started off the tournament crushing Exodus in the first round while they fought tooth and nail against Megadeth wining by only two votes to reach this point. Gary Holt’s original band gets eliminated, but he still has a chance to make it to the finals with Slayer as they try to make Jeff Hanneman proud. You have until March 27TH at 8:30AM ET to vote for who you want to win and remember the keyword is that YOU vote.
