High-On-Fire-4Matt Pike, the High On Fire singer/guitarist has gotten himself into the news lately when he sat down for an interview recently with The Void. In the interview, he has some insight into Dave Mustaine and how Metallica would never be Metallica without him saying, “He was an innovative f–king guy for that era. I don’t think Metallica would sound like Metallica without Dave Mustaine. I don’t think a lot of people would be doing ‘jugga-juggas’ if Dave Mustaine hadn’t set that Metallica thing up. I can tell by his playing. I know the songs that Dave f–king wrote in that band, and then you see him and what he does now. And, you know, there’s certain albums that I like better than others, but probably because I was a kid when  So Far, So Good… So What! came along. And then nowadays, when I hear it, I’m an older man… It’s still great, but it’s not the one that I had the lust over when I was a metal kid. I never thought I’d be sitting in a room with Dave Mustaine at any given moment in my life.” To read the rest of the interview, go here.

GettyImages-458112578Some sad news to report to all rock fans out there as Keith Emerson was found dead in his due to what police are saying was a single gunshot wound to the head. They are investigating it as an apparent suicide as Keith suffered from depression and degenerative nerve tissue. Keith Emerson was the keyboard player in Emerson, Lake, and Palmer who released the iconic record Brain Salad Surgery back in 1973. He was 71 years old when passed away. Carl Palmer offered some words for his former band member saying:

I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my good friend and brother-in-music, Keith Emerson.
Keith was a gentle soul whose love for music and passion for his performance as a keyboard player will remain unmatched for many years to come. He was a pioneer and an innovator whose musical genius touched all of us in the worlds of rock, classical and jazz.
I will always remember his warm smile, good sense of humour, compelling showmanship, and dedication to his musical craft.

I am very lucky to have known him and to have made the music we did, together. Rest in peace, Keith.

Iron-Maiden-Ed-Force-One-Damage-2One of the coolest things in Metal was knowing that Iron Maiden had their own airline jet called Ed Force One and that they were taking it with them on there 36 country tour. Now reports are coming in that the band has kind of hit a road block on their tour while they were in the country of Chile. Apparently, there engines were struck and damaged at the airport. Here is the full statement from the band:

ED FORCE ONE BADLY DAMAGED ON THE GROUND IN COMODORO ARTURO MERINO BENITEZ (SANTIAGO, CHILE) AIRPORT

CONCERTS IN ARGENTINA TOMORROW AND TUESDAY EXPECTED TO GO AHEAD AS PLANNED
Ed Force One was this morning tethered to a tow truck to be taken for refueling prior to flying over the Andes to Cordoba for the next show. On moving the steering pin that is part of the mechanism that connects the ground tug to the aircraft seemingly fell out. On making a turn the aircraft had no steering and collided with the ground tug badly damaging the undercarriage, two of the aircrafts engines and injuring two ground tug operators, both of whom have been taken to hospital. We hope of course that they make a full and speedy recovery and we will be closely monitoring their progress. The flight engineers are on site and evaluating the damage, but their initial report is that the engines have suffered large damage and will require an extended period of maintenance and possibly two new engines.
We are currently making contingency arrangements to get to the show in Cordoba tomorrow with band, crew and equipment intact. Fortunately the 20 tons of equipment had not been loaded onto EF1 at the time of the accident. Although this is tragic for our beautiful plane we do not expect this to affect our concert schedule including the next 2 shows in Cordoba and Buenos Aires. And we hope to find a new Ed Force One to continue this adventure with us in the near future. We will keep everyone updated when we know more, so keep checking only on this site for official news.
To finish on a high note however, our visit to Chile was a huge success with 58,000 fans coming to the show as totally brilliant as ever in the Stadium Nacional last night. We love you guys!

Dez-Fafara-of-DevilDriverIn other news, Devildriver have announced some new details on their brand new album Trust No One which comes out May 13TH. The band announced the track listing for the album and that they have parted ways with bassist Chris Towning as they prepare for their tour. Dez Fafara, the band’s lead singer, talked about the record saying, “Trust No One is a vicious record filled with huge grooves and big hooks, guitar bass assery and thundering drums! Lyrically it goes to a realistic space exploring a ton of different emotion and headspaces regarding being human and what it means to exist. The band worked long hours writing as well as in the studio along with our producer to forge Trust No One! I hope you turn it the f–k up and enjoy this record from start to finish!” To replace Towning, the band brought in former Wayne Static and Static X bassist Diego ‘Ashes’ Ibarra. He will join the band immediately as they prepare for a couple of big tours which includes a headlining one and a direct support spot with Hatebreed. To check out the full dates, go here. The Nu-Metal legends Coal Chamber’s first album Rivals which is also their first album in 13 years was released this week and the band has a music video for their first single. I had already covered I.O.U. Nothing for the single of the week which you can see here and read all about it. Lead singer Dez Fafara describes the band’s video to AP, “The video is a director concept, featuring two opposing forces both telling each other they owe nothing to one another. But in the aftermath, both have the blood of the other on their hands, because we are all intertwined and seeking to owe nothing in the end.” The video literally featurs what looks like two nuns of some sort or two women dressed in all white arguing with each other throughout the whole video and they become bloodied as the video continues. Here is what Dez said the song was about, “I.O.U. Nothing’ is about being able to sleep well at night, knowing you owe no one anything in life except yourself and your family. It’s like we’re climbing towards the sun, falling over everything falling over every one, just kick the planets aside, come with me the universe will provide!’ To sum up the first line, it’s is basically saying, in life go at it your hardest, step over obstacles, do your best—and if you do, the universe will give its rewards and do it without owning anyone anything!” Check out the video below:

spooky empirePhil Anselmo is back in the news again, but this time it’s due to his admirable work ethic as the singer is busier than he ever has been before. In an interview with Spooky Empire, the singer revealed some cool news for fans of his music and the film fest he puts on every year. Despite the fact that Housecore Horror Fest co-founder Corey Mitchell passed away last year, Anselmo said the fest will continue in November saying, “Corey was a passionate, unbelievably hard working man — a very, very, very, very, very good friend … This year, we’re dedicating the whole thing to Corey. Rest in peace.” Then he spoke about his upcoming music projects saying, “Been writing new Superjoint [Ritual]. Been writing new [Philip Anselmo and the] Illegals, been writing, well actually I’m in a secret death metal project with some secret other guys across the equator. It’s called Metroton Nganga and it’s cute, it really is.” According to Loudwire, he has also been working on material as the website reports, “Anselmo also revealed he’s been working on some acoustic music as well and has been behind the boards producing a new band called Child Bite that he describes as not really a metal band, but more in the vein of “Black Flag meets Jesus Lizards meets Dead Kennedys meets the Midwest.” And he’s also recently welcomed actor/musician Bill Moseley for sessions at his Nodferatu’s Lair studio. During the period, they wrote four songs together.” Stay tuned here for more info as it becomes available and check out the website for the Horror fest here and to watch the full interview go here.

aEver wonder what supergroups never saw the light of day considering we live in a society where bands are doing it constantly. Well, Marilyn Manson and Billy Corgan revealed a very weird supergroup during a press conference they held for their upcoming tour and it was thought up during a feeling they had while taking muscle relaxers. Manson says, “The band was going to be called Fruity at the time, because we thought that the pills made us feel fruity, that was it. I don’t really know what that meant, at the time. I don’t know if it was more of an in the moment situation, or if it was the surroundings.” Billy Corgan then spilled the beans on who was in it, “I think there was a fantasy of what it would mean to have a band together, and then everyone we would meet would be in the band. Like Flavor Flav was in the band, [porn star] Jenna Jameson was in the band, but then it never happened.” There’s a lot more stuff revealed in the press conference that you can here by going here.

unnamed-21While we are on the subject of tours, we have another tour announcement for all of you since you all voted. I posted in another article an opportunity for all fans of Papa Roach and Five Finger Death Punch to vote for where the bands would head to while on their fall trek. You have spoke, the bands listened and the tour itinerary has been revealed. Over 1.5 million people voted and the tour starts on September 4TH in Kentucky and wraps up on October 9TH in New York. Here is what Five Finger Death Punch guitarist Zoltan Bathory had to say about the tour, “This tour is shaping up to be the perfect storm. We are really good friends with Papa Roach so for years we’ve been talking about touring together and it’s finally coming together in a big way. Both 5FDP and Papa Roach are bands of the people — our fans are who propelled us to success. So what better way than to give the fans ownership in the tour? In the world of Wikipedia and Kickstarter where crowd funding and crowd sourcing has become the standard of community effort and the new way of making things happen this might quite possibly be the future of touring — you simply ask the fans where they want you to go.” Papa Roach’s Jacoby Shaddix added, “We are super excited to be sharing the stage on this co-headliner with FFDP. This will give Papa Roach the chance to put on the best, most epic live show to date. Our fans are going to be so stoked for these shows coming up. We seriously can’t wait to get out on the road for this tour.” The other bands on the tour are In This Moment and From Ashes To New. Check out the tour dates below:

Ryan-Shutler-630x420In sad news, Lazarus AD drummer Ryan Shutler has passed away at the age of 28. Reports have not been made official as of yet, but they said that he may have passed away from a heart attack this past Sunday (May 17). He was a part of the band since they started in 2005 and he was a part of two albums that were released by Metal Blade Records in 2009’s The Onslaught and 2011’s Black Rivers Flow. R.I.P. Ryan Shutler.

I hope that Coal Chamber fans are foaming at the mouth to hear brand new music from the band as their new album Rivals is gearing up to hit the shelves and your online store on May 19TH through Napalm Records. The band had already unleashed the track I.O.U. Nothing earlier in the year and they have been playing it during their live sets as we saw on Yahoo Live. Well, the band has unleashed another new track for all of you to hear and it features a really cool special guest on the track as well. The song is called Suffer In Silence and it features the legendary industrial pioneer Al Jourgensen of Ministry on the track. Lead singer Dez Fafara commented on Al being on the track, “Al has been a close friend for many years, he’s a legend, and literally was the only guy I asked to be a guest on this record. He came over to the house, we had BBQ, a hell of a lot of wine, then I had the pleasure of watching him in my home studio do what he does! I f—ing love this song so jam it loud!” Mikey Cox brutal beats kick off the badass new track as the band absolute jams and one of the cool things about the lyric video is that it shows you both Dez and Al singing their parts on the track. Coal Chamber are on a little bit of a break as they get ready to tear up South America and then Europe following in the summer, but if you’d like to now where they’ll be then click here for all the dates. You can also check out all the different pre-order bundles there are for the album Rivals by going here, but check out the track Suffer In Silence below:

coal chamber 1I hadn’t seen Coal Chamber live regretfully since Ozzfest 1998 when they rocked the main stage as the openers. They were always a band that had a high octane energy that drove fans wild and the pits were always enormous and stretched as far as the eye could see. That is why when I heard that Yahoo Live was broadcasting the band’s set from The Summit Music Hall in Denver earlier tonight, I was super pumped to watch. The band hit the road to support their new album Rivals which is also the band’s first album in over 13 years and the crowd seemed pumped to see them back on the road. Dez Fafara, Miguel Rascón, Mike Cox, and Nadja Peulen were all back and they looked amazing on stage as if they hadn’t aged a bit. The band hit the stage with a fury banging through classics Loco and Big Truck before playing brand new track I.O.U. Nothing. The energy was there like the band had never lost it in the first place and their interactions with the crowd is what made it a fun show. Despite one minor mishap with a mic problem during Somebody Told Me. it was cool to see that the band didn’t need pre-played tracks in the background to help them out which is something we see too often when going to see some bands as Dez made it a Point to note that.

coal chamber 2I really enjoyed seeing the band back on the road because I almost forgot how much I enjoyed the music. The band brought all the tools they needed for the show like the megaphone for Rowboat. While the setlist was heavy on music from their third album Dark Days and the first Self Titled Record, it was cool to see them play Chamber Music tracks like Not Living and the rare demo which was on their Giving The Devil His Due record. Another cool aspect of the show was definitely Miguel’s guitar playing as he shredded along and was on point throughout the whole show and we even got some talk box effects from him during the show. Nadja proved throughout the show that she was more than just eye candy for all the guys in the crowd cause the girl can play the bass. The music quality was there as the band was clear and concise as their didn’t seem to be any audio issues at all and you could hear the crowd as clear as day too when they sang back the lyrics to Dez and co. This was a definite fun show to watch and you should definitely check them out if they play at a venue near you because they give you your moneys worth all night long. Check out the set list below and enjoy some photos from the show:

Coal-Chamber-630x420Some of may not remember who Coal Chamber is or if you are as big a fan of Dez Fafara as I am then you will definitely remember who they are as the Nu-Metal pioneers get set to release their first album together in 13 years called Rivals. The band has also unleashed a new single for all of us to hear, the cleverly titled I.O.U. Nothing and here is what Dez had to say about the track when he spoke to Loudwire, “I.O.U.’ touches on those feelings of you being ‘DONE’ with someone emotionally to the point of knowing you owe them NOTHING, no more time, no more feelings, no more phone calls or exchanges of any kind and the Christmas cards are not coming anymore so don’t check the mail!” Then Dez goes on to site the lyric, “I think we’re climbing towards the sun / Falling over everything, falling over everyone / Just kick the planets aside / Come with me the universe will provide” and then he adds, “That lyric is a direct statement to not let anyone or anything in life get in your way, and sure enough if you make the right moves and do ‘the right thing,’ then the Universe will provide!” The song is as groovin as any other Coal Chamber track from the past as if the band has not lost a step and it’s brutal at the same time. It’s kind of cool to see the guys back once again and you can check them out on tour right now with Combichrist, Filter, and American Head Charge.
