I have been doing the Alumni Takeover Weekend at Bridgewater State University’s WBIM 91.5 FM for the last five years and every year I generally played the same material as I did when I was a full time DJ at the station back in 2012 with Pedal To The Metal Radio. This year I wanted to do something a little different than usual and it was I wanted to showcase my love for music that is a little more extreme than what rock radio stations are playing. So that is exactly what I decided to do with my sixth appearance at the station when I hit the airwaves last night at 9PM to close out night one of two after following the longest running radio show in non commercial college radio history in The Basement. Right now, I want to thank the Alumni Association for putting together the Alumni Takeover event because the man behind the scenes in Peter Q does an absolute terrific job putting this together. Without him and the help of other alums, this wouldn’t be possible. I also want to thank all of the current DJ’s who were so courteous to give up their shifts for one weekend so that all of us could relive our glory days for one night. I also want to thank fellow Metalhead Matt Rau who usually has his radio show on Fridays from 7PM ET to 10PM ET for giving up his spot so that I could do my show. I appreciate it a lot and thank you. It was a fun show to do even though I had a little bit of a hiccup with the wrong song playing at the wrong time a couple of times, but other than that I thought it went pretty well. Also I want to add that below you will see Radio Premiere next to a track by the band Sodom and that is because I think I’m the only DJ in America to play that on the radio. It definitely got the blood going and the idea of wanting to get back into the game, but that is a discussion for another day. I definitely look forward to this every year and I ope that it continues happening for another 100 years and beyond. Check out the playlist and some of the artwork below:

As far as the idea for this years playlist was concerned, I wanted to do something a little different than I had in the past. The first three years, I just took whatever songs I was in the mood for and I played the tracks on my show. This year, I wanted to start a theme and every year I can do a different theme than the last. So, I decided that this year, I would do all live tracks and I did it in the idea of what if I held a festival called Pedal To The Metal Fest and all these bands showed up to play, this would be the best performances of the day. I will admit that I had a hard time finding live tracks from some of the bands, but the harder part was having to edit all the F-bombs out of the songs. I originally started with having Sepultura, Amon Amarth, Ghost, Rob Zombie, W.A.S.P., etc. But when I arrived at the studio, I changed my mind on what the opener would be so I took out Sepultura and replaced them with Ministry. I had to add Van Halen at the end because I was running out of tracks with plenty of time left and I ended the show with what I called a non-live bonus track from Monster Magnet. Once again though, the best part of the whole event was getting to connect with some amazing people that you don’t always get to see all the time. I had a lot of fun at my fourth ever Alumni Takeover Weekend at Bridgewater State University and I definitely look forward to some more in the future. Check out the playlist below:
If you are reading the headline, then you know that it’s absolutely true that my old radio show from my days at Bridgewater State University is coming back for one night only. That is not a mistake because every year, the college holds it’s annual Alumni Takeover during the school’s Homecoming weekend which allows some old alums to come back and host a show for an hour or so. For the last three years, I have had some fun wracking my brain to come up with a playlist that I thought you would enjoy as well, but this year it’s going to change. I think every year, I am going to pick a theme and I am just going to run with it. This year, I have something special planned out for you guys, but you’ll have to wait and just wonder exactly what Pedal To The Metal Fest is all about. I do not have the exact day and time I am going to be on, but you should know that Alumni Takeover weekend is October 12TH and 13TH. Last night was Alumni Takeover Weekend over at Bridgewater State University’s radio station WBIM 91.5FM. The reason it’s special and why I did a show is because that is my Alma Mater and I was a DJ at the radio station where I hosted the show Pedal To The Metal. It’s a tradition that has been going on for some time at the school during Homecoming weekend where alumni of the station will come and take over the station for a weekend. It’s an awesome tradition that I wish was more than just one weekend a year because it’s so nice to run into some familiar faces and hear some stories from some of the guys that came before you. I want to go ahead and thank John Coombs for putting this together once again and I hope he feels better, it wasn’t the same without him there. I also want to thank the school for allowing us to do this and the current staff at WBIM for allowing us to come and takeover the station from them.
