One of the most interesting metal bands on the scene today is Danish Rockabilly Metal band Volbeat which features former Anthrax guitarist Rob Caggiano. The band has a sound that is unlike any other which makes them cool in my book. The band is currently touring on the release of their sixth album Seal The Deal & Let’s Boogie. The band has recetly unveiled a new music video for the title track Seal The Deal which is also our Music Video Of The Week for the metal side of life (we have two for you again). The music video can be best described as an homage to Rocky or to the sport of boxing in general as the video follows a boxer (played by real life boxer Frank Galarza) as he goes through some rigorous training for his next fight. The video flashes back and forth on occasion to what looks like real live footage of the band performing the track. The band talked about the video saying, “As someone who grew up around boxing and is an avid fan of the sport, [we]re thrilled with the video Martin and Magnus at Gaucho Film created for ‘Seal The Deal,’. We’re also very proud to feature fighter Frank Galarza in the clip; he and his young co-star Elvin really brought the feel of the song to life. Expect big things coming from both of them in the future!” So with that being said, check out the video below and kudos to the band for the album debuting at number four when it was released.

pedal-2016-promoLast night was Alumni Takeover Weekend over at Bridgewater State University’s radio station WBIM 91.5FM. The reason it’s special and why I did a show is because that is my Alma Mater and I was a DJ at the radio station where I hosted the show Pedal To The Metal. It’s a tradition that has been going on for some time at the school during Homecoming weekend where alumni of the station will come and take over the station for a weekend. It’s an awesome tradition that I wish was more than just one weekend a year because it’s so nice to run into some familiar faces and hear some stories from some of the guys that came before you. I want to go ahead and thank John Coombs for putting this together once again and I hope he feels better, it wasn’t the same without him there. I also want to thank the school for allowing us to do this and the current staff at WBIM for allowing us to come and takeover the station from them. Here is my playlist from that featured a special Black Sabbath medley (of sorts).

1. Inside The Fire by Disturbed

2. The Threat Is Real by Megadeth

3. Square Hammer by Ghost

4. Room 24 by Volbeat

5. One Of Us Is The Killer by The Dillinger Escape Plan

6. Turn Off The Radio by A Day To Remember

7. Babylon’s Burning by W.A.S.P.

8. Brotherhood Of Man by Motorhead

9. On With The Show by Motley Crue

10. Children Of The Grave (Vocalist Medley) by Black Sabbath*

11. Sail Away by Deep Purple

12. Metal Gods by Judas Priest

* Vocalist Medley featured Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Martin, and Ronnie James Dio on the same track.

I know what you’re thinking right now it’s s that the same Jim Breuer as the in the comedian? The Jim Breuer comedian that is famous for his James Hetfield impressions and the Jim Breuer that did Goat Boy? My answer to you is that if you are thinking that then you are absolutely right, it’s the same guy. Jim Breuer has released his very own rock album with his band the Loud & Rowdy. Jim is releasing his album Songs From The Garage which features some amazing tracks that will fit right alongside hits from bands like Megadeth, AC/DC, etc. The Loud & Rowdy are made up of drummer Mike Tichy, bassist Joe Vigliotti, and guitarist Metal Mike while the album was produced by former Anthrax/current Volbeat guitarist Rob Caggiano. The track that I present to you guys is kind of bittersweet considering that Brian Johnson is no longer in AC/DC. Nevertheless, the band has released the track Mr. Rock n Roll which features Brian on vocals along with Breuer. It’s so awesome to hear Johnson’s vocals on this kick ass rock track that any AC/DC fan would enjoy listening to. Breuer talked about working with Johnson with Rolling Stone saying, “To me, Brian is the most powerful voice in rock & roll. He is also the funniest and most generous man I have ever known. I am still in awe of how he recorded the song and forever thankful.” Check out the track below and believe me Breuer is actually pretty good!

For this weeks;s single of the week, I turned to Danish rock titans Volbeat after they announced the title of their upcoming sixth album Seal the Deal & Let’s Boogie which comes out June 3RD via Republic Records. Frontman Michael Poulsen talked about the album saying, “After months writing and recording, we’re thrilled to finally be able to unleash Seal The Deal & Let’s Boogie into the world. Play it loud!” The band also unleashed a brand new single from the album titled The Devil’s Bleeding Crown and while the song is a barn burner, the opening guitar riff reminded me of another track. The tracks ferocity and structure reminded me of Nickleback’s Burn It To The Ground. The only thing that is different is the chorus to the track. I’m not denying that the band created a bad ass track because the guitar solo is sick, the singer sounds like a heavy version of Elvis, and they are definitely more bad ass than Nickleback. Check out the track below, some of their tour dates here, and see the track listing for the new album below the video.

If you are a fan of the original The Mummy film that starred Boris Karloff or any of the rebooted Universal Monsters films like Dracula AD, etc. then I have some news for you. Universal is about to launch the first film in the reboot of The Mummy film and there is a major change in the character. The Mummy apparently is going to be played a female with what experts are saying is a unique backstory. Universal commented by saying, “the gender of the monster in the new film, which is set in the modern day, likely will depend on casting, expected to happen in the next couple of months.” They also revealed that there are two different versions they could go by, “one that would feature a female monster, and one that would feature a male.” Alex Kurtzman is set to direct the film that was written by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus). The film will be released on March 24, 2017 with another the following year. I have to go along with the major consensus in saying that I don’t care what gender The Mummy is as long as the story is tight.

gutterdammerungSome of you may be wondering just what in the hell is Gutterdämmerung? Apparently it’s a dark rock and roll fairy tale that stars the likes of Slash, Joshua Homme, Lemmy, Grace Jones, Iggy Pop, Justice, Henry Rollins, Slayer’s Tom Araya, Volbeat, Mark Lanegan, Nina Hagen and Jesse Hughes. The film was done by Björn Tagemose and apparently a live band will accompany the film according to the trailer. It looks like a film that could either be epic or an epic cheesefest. Check out the trailer for the film here.

godzzillaIn other news, we have some cool info on some of my favorite monsters that are not from Universal. Legendary Films and Warner Brothers did so well with the reboot of Godzilla that the company has announced that they are creating their own universe which seems to be the thing to do these days. Nevertheless, it has been announced that Godzilla, King Kong, and many others old and new will be appearing in films in the future. According to businesswire.com, the first films you’ll see are “2017’s KONG: SKULL ISLAND; GODZILLA 2 in 2018; and then GODZILLA VS. KONG, arriving in theaters in 2020.” According to a report, the two companies did acquire the rights from Toho to have King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan which allow them to create the universe. Legendary CEO Thomas Tull said, “Audiences really responded to Godzilla. Today, I’m excited to reveal that film was only the beginning of an epic new entertainment universe. As a lifelong fan of these characters, I’ve always wanted to see the ultimate showdown, and today we’re pleased to be announcing that and more.”

christopher_lloyd___h_2015On October 21, 2015, it is officially Back To The Future day. What is weird is that in the film, the Chicago Cubs won the world series and the Cubs have now moved on to the next round in the MLB playoffs for real. Christopher Lloyd who played our beloved Doc Brown says that he would take the role in a fourth Back To The Future if everyone returned. Who are the everyone he speaks of, well it’s Robert Zemeckis, Bob Gale, Michael J. Fox, Lea Thompson, and Thomas F. Wilson of course. Lloyd in an interview says, “I would love to do Doc again, no question.” He went on to say, “It’s tough to come up with an idea that contains the excitement of the original three,. So it would be a real challenge for the writers to come up with an original Back to the Future story that has the same passion and intensity and excitement as the other three. But it could be done, you never know.” He went on to talk about Michael J. Fox and whether he thought he would return to play Marty McFly once again, “I think regardless of the Parkinson’s, he’d probably jump on the role and he’d be great. I can’t see doing another sequel without him. I would certainly want Bob Zemeckis directing it, Bob Gale writing it and the other principals being involved.” And, of course, there has got to be a DeLorean, he added. “It was such a perfect choice for the film. It looked so speedy and futuristic.” Let’s just wait and see what happens in the future.

So, apparently there is some buzz going around for the new HBO documentary about Kurt Cobain entitled Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck that was spearheaded by his daughter Frances Bean Cobain and director Bret Morgan. Courtney Love and Frances allowed Bret full freedom to scour through all of their belongings which includes various tapes with one being an audio recording of Cobain talking about the first time he tried to commit suicide all for this documentary. One thing that the director found apparently was a sex tape that Love had made with Kurt and she confirms it saying, “Somehow Brett found the sex tape. Everyone makes one sex tape once in their lives. Eric would come over to our house and shoot really intimate stuff with me and Kurt. That’s just the way Eric is. Let’s move on.” According to Love, the film is, “as close to the truth as anyone’s going to get” and it debuts on HBO on May 4TH.

cornThe genius behind the animated metal cooking show called Cooking Hostile with Phil Anselmo is back with another animated series that is hilarious. Joey Siler is back a new series called Secret Metal Mysteries and it tackles the origin of how Korn got their name. The show is obviously just a parody, but it follows a band called Corn and how their name got ripped off by the Korn we know today and it parodies Korn’s music like the song Blind and Falling Away From Me to name a few. The video also shows you that in order for Jonathan to take down the original band to get rid of them , he enlisted the help of Deftones frontman Chino Moreno.  If you love Metal Parodies then you have to watch this one because it is so awesome. You can check out the video here.

alWhen one thinks of Black Metal, we always associate the genre with Norway and Sweden as well as burning churches and anti-christian beliefs, but now there is a band that is becoming more edgy than any of those bands. In Saudi Arabia, there is a band that is speaking out against Islam which just may be the riskiest thing any band in a region that is 100% Muslim can do. The name of the band is called Al-Namrood and they are speaking out against Islam which by the way is punishable by imprisonment or death in Saudi Arabia and for that reason is also why they are remaining anonymous. That we take risks news service Vice managed to secure an interview with one of the members of the band known as Mephisto. Mephisto describes the band’s name, origin , “Al-Namrood is the Arabic name of the Babylonian king Nimrod, who was a mighty tyrannical king who ruled Babylon with blood and defied the ruler of the universe, according to the tenets of monotheistic religions. We find the title of Al-Namrood to perfectly fit the message of the band.” Which by the way, the band’s name means non believer. He continues, “We’re fed up with religion,” Mesphisto continues. “The fact is that everything that is connected to it makes us nauseous. I personally spoke to a shrink. He advised me that whenever I get inflamed I have to express [what I’m feeling]. So here we are, expressing. What can be more motivating than living in a place where everything is controlled by religion? Basically, individuals here have no rights to do anything. We’re owned by the Islamic sharia. Everything we do must be justified by Islam and acknowledged by society. There are two outrageous powers: religion and our society. They both interact and fulfill each other.” Sadly, the band can not perform live because if they do they could risk the possibility of being put to death.

Five-Finger-Death-Punch-Papa-Roach1In concert news, Five Finger Death Punch and Papa Roach are going to be hitting the road together in the fall, but they are doing things differently as far as where the tour will go. Both bands are leaving it to fans to decide where the routing of the tour will occur as fans are able to visit FFDP’s page here or Papa Roach’s here and vote for your city. The cities with the most votes will move on to each round until the final itinerary is decided. In This Moment and From Ashes To New will be hitting the road with them on that fall tour as well. Papa Roach will continue to support their album F.E.A.R. while Five Finger Death Punch continue to work on their sixth studio album. So, remember visit those pages, let your voices be heard, get those bands to your city.

Charlie-Benante-630x420As most of you know, Big Four member and Thrash titans Anthrax are about to head out on the road with Volbeat, but they’ll be missing a key component for the first couple of weeks. Drumme Charlie Benante is forced to miss the first couple of weeks of the tour due to issues of Carpal Tunnel syndrome resurfacing and he is undergoing physical therapy to help with the issue and so Jon Dette will be playing in his place. Charlie issued a statement saying, “This was a difficult decision to make especially as I had to miss dates on the last cycle because of my hand surgery. But the fact is, playing a show five or more times a week just isn’t realistic right now, I found that out when we were making our new album, and I don’t want to let the fans down by not being able to give it everything I have at every show. I was driving the other day and my hand went numb, so unfortunately, it’s just not 100 percent yet. I figure I can play for maybe three weeks at a time but then I have to let it rest. The guys in the band have been incredibly understanding and supportive, and I hope the fans will be as well. The positive side is that I plan to use the time off the road constructively and focus on our upcoming album, continue to work on the package artwork and develop a number of other ideas I’ve got for the campaign.” We just hope that Charlie will be okay and behind the kit in no time. The title of the piece speaks for itself as I announce that the Revolver Golden Gods Awards show just got a little more badass as Revolver Magazine just announced that Glenn Danzig and his solo band, Danzig, was announced as a performer. The Golden God awards is the one award show that is strictly for us metal fans and they have catered to us over the years with great performances from some of today’s great artists. We have seen artists like Alice Cooper, Marilyn Manson, Fozzy, Asking Alexandria, Volbeat, Devildriver, and we’ve seen special performances like Avenged Sevenfold playing Mouth For War with Vinny Paul, Sebastian Bach playing with Asking Alexandria, Dee Snider coming out to play with The Black Veil Brides, and so much more. The event is awesome and Doyle from The Misfits is going to perform with Danzig in a night that already features Metallica, Stone Sour, Five Finger Death Punch, Anthrax, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and Halestorm. The event is going to be broadcasted on AXS TV, Facebook, and XBOX Live on May 2, 2013. If you’re a metal fan, then you do not want to miss this one.  Here’s one of my favorite Danzig songs to pump you up:
